Dentist has taken all the decay out (feel like such a bad mum) but DS wouldn't let him put the filling in .. he just lost it .. he was being so good too

We have come home and I have dug a hole out of a rice cake and he's filled it with cucumber

we have another appointment next thursday and I've told him we'll go and choose a toy afterwards

have also told him that no sweets or ice lollies until tooth is filled

(its all my friends fault who gave him some bloody stupid scare story about dentists a few weeks ago in an attempt to convince him he didn't want another sweet .. grrrr)

What a shame to lose it at that point - he's had all the nasty stuff done by the sounds of it. Putting the filling in is painless.

Can't advise other than bribery which you already have in hand.

Good luck

I guess it's his first teeth?
dd has had 2 fillings- but they aren't the amalgam ones, just white 'chewing gum' type material.

It will take the dentist about 3 seconds to stick in, but if you leave the tooth with a whole it may decay even more.

Is he very scared? Did the drilling bit upset him?
Perhaps explain that all that is over and the next bit will be over by the time he counts to 20(0r whatever the dentist suggests!!)

I found bribery workes well too - a toy or similar.
Or perhaps take him to cinema afterwards?

hole even!!!

he was so good .. he sat there for at least 2 minutes with his mouth open whilst the dentist picked the decay out (he said it was quite deep ) but then just totally lost it

he's now said he wants to go back now but we couldn't get another appointment till next thursday .. have called and left a message asking if they could squeeze us in this afternoon

I feel so crap

Have you tried this book?

The Tooth Book (Bright and Early Books for Beginning Beginners) (Hardcover)
by Theo Lesieg, Joseph Mathieu (Illustrator), Dr. Seuss "Who has teeth?..."

Oh Twiglett, don't feel crap- I'm sure it's not your fault. These things happen. Do you have Topsy and Tim at the Dentist? If you don't and you think it would help give me a shout and I'll send our copy off straight away. I have a feeling there's an Usborne one too. Chin up
