Any techno experts in this evening? Firefox is acting up - is it just me?

2 things really, possibly connected:

  1. when I click on a link on a valid site, another Firefox window opens behind it, often blank

  2. when some pages open they immediately try to go to another page without me doing anything but never get there, just go round and round and round....

this has happened with the Guardian & Quidco so far this evening & I can't get into the page I really want.

Is it me or Firefox or something else???

sounds like you have a virus of some sort?

bubbles4 · 10/07/2010 22:26

My Firefox is fine,it does sound like you have a virus or some malware.

Ponders · 10/07/2010 22:27

thanks, alypaly - I was sort of wondering that myself, but Firefox is meant to be pretty secure & it's not happening on my regular browser...no idea where to start looking for a virus on firefox!!!

and it isn't happening on all pages - MN is OK & so are various car pages I've been looking at this evening - DH is our internet "expert" but he hasn't a clue about firefox!

It wont be Fiefox that has the virus,it will be your computer,Are you running an anti virus programme?I always use Avg and this if I have any problems.

Ponders · 10/07/2010 22:31

thanks to you too bubbles, yours wasn't there when I looked before.

Any idea how I look for virus/malware?

cross posts,I would start with my link, its a trusted and reconnended anti malware programme.

I didn't do try it last night - too late for techie stuff for me!

However this morning I've googled the URL that comes up at the bottom of the non-loading page & have found it's a Firefox problem (only with Firefox, not IE or Chrome)

the Guardian site is affected & several others are mentioned too

The NoScript thing mentioned works apparently but I don't know what it is!

Aha, I found it and it WORKS!!!!! yay! I might even pay for it, I'm so relieved!

There's a box at the bottom of the page now showing Scripts Currently Forbidden which is really comforting
