Tea room 16 welcome to Shangri-la

UniS · 15/06/2010 19:33

Shangri-la = a hidden valley with beautiful views and crystal streams of course, and some inter-far eastern type of chalet things set around a Serene Courtyard with ever-blooming Japanese cherry trees, lots of refreshing fragrant teas, silk cushions, tinkling tiny waterfalls and bonsai trees, Gardens of Tranquillity etc.

Home to teh 16th Tea room, a haven for those with one or more or less children who like cake, tea, talking nonsense and oggling Mellors ( our handyman/ butler). If its your first vist, pull up a cushion .Mind out for the guinea pigs and other pets and do take care not to squash the teeny tiny naked mowhawk babies ( nmbs
, no longer naked and now toilet trained you will glad to hear)as they go about their duties helping Mellors.

Confused... come on, jump in and have a hot chocolate.

Hello all, hugs to everyone who needs them and Bolly and chocolate to the rest.

I have my third cold in three months and this one is awful. It's finally on the downslope but I have been utterly miserable.

I must say, I like the Shangri-La Tea Room. I could use an aromatherapy massage. I wonder if Mellors is free?

CMOTdibbler · 18/06/2010 08:43

Oh dear, seems like the Tea Room is not a well place atm. Hope everyone starts to feel better soon

Coffee, tea, and assorted pastries on the counter

UniS · 18/06/2010 09:51

Breathe, UniS, breathe. Count to ten, slowly, backwards. No matter your religious leanings, St Anthony is a good one to help you find the check.

Thanks for the pastries, CMOT, don't mind if I do. Yummy!

Hope all of the poorly ladies are feeling better?

mistlethrush · 18/06/2010 13:49

UniS - have you sent a 'thank you for your payment' letter... if not, blame the post. I find it works very well.

DCMB - get thee to a Dr and hope you feel better soon.

HC - good to see you, sorry you're under the weather still - how's JBaby? - sorry should that be fanbaby or similar?

TW - hope the choir lead goes well - I've sung in a choir now for over 20 yrs and I would miss it if I completely gave up.

Mary - I hope you're enjoying that massage! Ds can be very rough already - we're currently trying to stop him hitting us in passing - I think he does it for the contact - just wish it would be a bit more gentle... but he hasn't hit any strangers recently (by holding his hand/arm out as he walks passed someone )

We need pictures of the horse fancy dress!

happycopter · 18/06/2010 15:37

Hi everyone. Definitely on the mend today. Partly due to my lovely mum being here... she's Jackbaby's (we can keep the old name ) favourite toy, he wants to do everything with her so I can rest lie moaning on the couch a bit.

I posted this on my Facebook page this morning but it's too good not to share again:

Dear Pharmacist: thank you for your recommendation of an atomic-strength decongestant. You really picked a good one. But those things in my ears that are all blocked so I can't hear? They're not my Fallopian tubes.

I'm sorry I'm not up on what's going on with everyone, will try to be a bit more diligent.

Mary, how's the tum today? Hopefully no left-over aches?

Thumb, I love singing and used to be in several choirs. Don't have time now, but maybe again at some point.

UniS - oh bugger re lost cheque. If you don't find it could you blame Boy and say he flushed it down the loo as you watched with horror?

Any coffee going, or similar?

oxeye · 18/06/2010 16:30
happycopter · 18/06/2010 16:35

Does this coffee taste funny or is it just that my tastebuds have gone numb from this horrid cold and too much medication?

RacingSnake · 18/06/2010 16:37

UniS - I would go for lost in the post.

HappyCopter - Look after those fallopian tubes!

DCMB - get to a doctor!

Horsey people - I have been having long talks with colleagues at work (we were walking all 120 children up the quite famous hill behind our school and down again, so had time to chat) and they all recommend against getting drawn into schemes devised by horse-mad friend, whereby I would keep a Shetland with hers for Wriggle and go over once or twice a week to ride/muck about. They say that the cost could be horrendous and the pony could turn nasty. What do you think?

UniS · 18/06/2010 19:23

Remember: Stressed spelled backward is desserts.

Regrettably I have thanked the payer for cheque. And now I can;t flipping find it. It arrived last week and I only go to town once a week , didn;t bank it last thursday as boy was not in mood to drag to bank. - have also checked on line statementy things and it not been paid in. Have checked all cheque and paying in books I can find, all back packs ( did find boys buff which I mislaid months ago) , trouser pockets, coat pockets. desk, all kitchen counters and contents of recycling bin. ARRRRSSSSe. Where else might I have put it for safekeeping?
Will be rather embarrassing to have to ask customer to stop it and send another, and I would probably have to offer to lose what ever that cost him too. Thankfully its a customer that I work for a lot and get on well with.

And DH sin;t here either, hes still on a train somewhere near bristol. So will be catching the late bus that goes through ALL the villages slowly. It looks like I won;t get to the pub tonight. Booo HOOO.

May I partake of teh choc box of requirequirements for a while, and console my self with virtual calories in an attempt to stay away from the real ones.

Oh, and, Hi all, nice evening isn;t it.

UniS · 18/06/2010 20:01

Its go worse, the train is now running so late he will miss the last bus. oh joy.

UniS - try looking for something else? I always find long missing things when I'm looking for something else. Admittedly, I usually no longer have any need for the missing thing by then, so I'm afraid if it were me I would find the errant check three days after it expired, whilst searching for my passport.

I have not gotten me to a doctor, but have been feeling better today. Had to go to work and everything. And collect DD from school, take cats to vet, all the rest of it.

I'm reading up on how to set up a Free School. I really don't agree in principle, but the situation is so broken around here, and there are apparently some premises coming up for sale that would be perfect, so there are some rumblings in Governor-Land.

thumbwitch · 19/06/2010 00:19

at fallopian tubes in the ears! Perhaps it was just one of those fading-memory induced malapropisms (I'm sure s/he knew they were Eustachian tubes really, well, you'd hope so anyway )

UniS - bummer about the cheque! That happened to me once with a cheque from my friend for a massage - cost her £11 to stop it!!! I was .I never found it though - think I must have dropped it out of my handbag/the car by accident .(that isn't going to make much sense to many of you but it does to me!)

Still feeling a bit under the weather here, snivelling for England but it's not got worse so shouldn't complain.

actually, sack that...

UniS · 19/06/2010 20:38

Unis removed chocolate covered marizpan and mucnches contentedly.
Havn;t found teh cheque. Did find 8 letterboxes whilst out for a walk thios afternoon, and a paddling spot in a very cold stream.
DH has given me my birthday present a bit early- a wheelbarrow- so now I can trundle off to the plant sale in village tomorrow with a barrow full of boxes.

Sounds like a lovely day, UniS.

Me, I went out sans BabyScout, who was happily napping so his G-pa and Nana kept an ear out for him. Was very nice, but a bit strange. Was in a shop and went reaching for his stroller, which obviously wasn't there!

MaryBS · 20/06/2010 07:54

Tum is better, face is now better - DS accidently headbutted me in the face last night, catching my nose, upper lip and teeth! OW!

MindySimmons · 20/06/2010 07:58

Hope the Tea Room is soon on longer the sick bay, poor things, sounds like the bugs and injuries are really doing the rounds.

Feeling a little low today, 1st father's day without my dad. Was really sad going with dd to get the father's day things yesterday, getting a card of dh, FIL but not for my dad

Must pick myself up though, dd is really looking forward to spoiling dh! Think I'll get the bike out later when dh goes to see fil and go and see my dad. It's about a 10 mile round trip, not much compared to my dad's epic cycling trips but a little jaunt in his honour.

thumbwitch · 20/06/2010 15:26

Oh Mindy - for you, it is tough. I dread the day when my Dad might go - fingers crossed it's lots of years down the line but he is 77 now so it could be a few, could be lots. Have a ((hug)) and something calming and relaxing - some rose oil massaged into you and perhaps a scrumptious little cakelet?

Mary - you are in the wars at the mo, aren't you!

We have been receiving visitations from one of these chappies over the last few days - the cheeky creature even 'buzzed' our window, then sat on the deck and stared through it at us until we fetched it some food. The boldness of the birds here is incredible, honestly. We feed it mostly raw sausagemeat - MrThumb would give it raw bacon and ham but I fear for its kidneys with all that salt! MiniThumb loves feeding it - he takes the food and puts it on the decking rail and the bird comes and takes it while miniThumb is still standing there. It wouldn't take much to train it to take food from our hands but it's too much of a risk, I think - although it's probably not much bigger than a blackbird. Certainly wouldn't be feeding the magpies here - although MrThumb has been known to feed the kookaburras.

We have ignored UK Fathers' Day - MrThumb had 2 last year (it's in September here). Actually, typing that saved me from a monumental omission - I have just phoned my Dad! SO busy not bothering about it, I nearly forgot about him!

RacingSnake · 20/06/2010 20:57

Very envious about exotic wildlife! Why would it be too risky to feed by hand? A peck by something the size of a blackbird doesn't sound too bad. (But I may be missing something.)

UniS · 20/06/2010 21:39

Iced tea anyone? by the mysterious nature of the tea room it will actually taste OK, even if you are British and believe iced tea to be weird.

I've just got in from the garden. just a spot of light weeding and potting on.

Day out tomorrow, preschool outingto a local tourist trp animal attraction. it'll be fine. boy fancies a pony ride as hes been told you get a rosette afterwards. Must go and see what special offer vouchers I can find for there, I think there was a free pony ride one somewhere.

I love iced tea -- yum!

Just looking at the pictures DH took of BabyScout and I playing in the backyard with bubbles. Very sweet!

CMOTdibbler · 20/06/2010 22:02

I like iced tea too - but unsweetened please.

We have been horse showing today - neither of us made too much of a fool of ourselves, and DS won the fancy dress class. He looked v v v cute in his show clothes

I like your visitor Thumb. Where my parents live they have lots of Red Kites, and dad puts meat out for them, and whistles to them to get them to come which is amazing

Scout19075 · 20/06/2010 22:14

Anyone fancy some BBQ?

CMOTdibbler · 20/06/2010 22:19

D'ya mean real BBQ, like pulled pork ? Have developed a real thing for it
