Tea room 16 welcome to Shangri-la

UniS · 15/06/2010 19:33

Shangri-la = a hidden valley with beautiful views and crystal streams of course, and some inter-far eastern type of chalet things set around a Serene Courtyard with ever-blooming Japanese cherry trees, lots of refreshing fragrant teas, silk cushions, tinkling tiny waterfalls and bonsai trees, Gardens of Tranquillity etc.

Home to teh 16th Tea room, a haven for those with one or more or less children who like cake, tea, talking nonsense and oggling Mellors ( our handyman/ butler). If its your first vist, pull up a cushion .Mind out for the guinea pigs and other pets and do take care not to squash the teeny tiny naked mowhawk babies ( nmbs
, no longer naked and now toilet trained you will glad to hear)as they go about their duties helping Mellors.

Confused... come on, jump in and have a hot chocolate.

What lovely cucumber sandwiches Herbaceous. Would go nicely with a glass of Pimms

GMILs funeral was lovely. In a bit of a family shock, STBX SIL turned up rather blatently which was rather difficult for FIL

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 29/06/2010 11:42

Glad to hear that the funeral went well, Cmot.

The sandwiches are lovely. Possibly a little early for Pimms, but since you insist. Perhaps we should be watching Wimbledon on the telly, to match the vibe?

I wonder whether Mellors has any tennis whites. I imagine has has a powerful backhand. Perhaps he might offer tennis coaching?

AandO · 29/06/2010 11:44

Hello ladies,

Haven't read back yet and so I hope you are all well.

Well, I am out of the priest hole finally!! Have been working this morning and had some tiling and painting done over the weekend and so the fear has subsided to some degree. When I get too overwhelmed I don't do anything, just freeze up and sleep alot, so I am happy to be over the comatoze (sp?)level of fear and on to tackling things.

Tea and cake of requirement anyone?

CMOT, have a large virtual hug after yesterday.

Hello everyone else!

Oh goodness, my brain isn't working in the right order at all . I think I might need a small lie down...

Scout19075 · 29/06/2010 15:18
thumbwitch · 29/06/2010 15:32

CMOTD - at family upset at funeral - hope all else went ok apart from that. Have a large slice of something gooey and a nice TP to read to take your mind off it.

Scout - hmmm. So long as he's strapped into something, should be ok, shouldn't it? Or are you doing the cooking?

A&O - hurrah! Welcome back to the Serene Courtyard - pull up a silken floor cushion and relaaaaxx

Amber - WHAT a good idea!! Brilliant move - best thing. Perhaps you can work on the Anti-Bullying policy while you're not there, send it in to the Big Boss and get Big Boss to implement it before you get back?

Smallbunch - the rule is, if it's a picnic or you're watching tennis then it's never too early for Pimms; in my house anwyay although I doubt I'd indulge before noon! So - Pimms and cucumber sandwiches this way please!

I am feeling Rough. Today I have used an entire box of Kleenez Mansize tissues. My nose is a belisha beacon and Very Sore (even miniThumb has noticed "poor mummy sore nose"). I am dosed to the eyeballs with ibuprofen and various potions adn I think they are helping a bit.. but I still feel rotten. Still, MrThumb did change miniThumb's nappy more than once today for me (bending over is Not Good) and he brought in fish and chips for lunch and he made up the fire before we ever got out of bed this morning so we've had it going all day (Tis damn cold here - great full moon but zero cloud cover - acutally frosty!)

Scout19075 · 29/06/2010 15:46

BabyScout will be strapped into his stroller while I help supervise 6 patrols of Guides cook their dinner and dessert. His Daddy will collect him at usual collect-from-Guides time (7:30-ish). When we go off to camp in six weeks I'm doing the catering for 50-60 people. Tonight he should be fine, but I'm starting to get a bit [hmmm] about it as I prepare, only because of all of the patrol fires in a small-ish space.

amber -- Sounds as if the big big boss is supportive? Ya-hoo!

Poor thumb with her sore nose. Sore noses are no fun!

Hello AandO!

Mmmm, Pimms. Been AGES since I've had a glass. Thanks very much!

thumbwitch · 29/06/2010 15:58

I found Pimms on line here in Australia - selling for $39.95 plus P&P. That adds up to over £25 for a 70cl bottle. Not worth it. Can't order it in for myself cos it'll cost me C&E duty (loads) - so I'll just have to wait until we go back to the UK again and bring some over with me - then treat it like liquid gold until I can go again!

Scout, if Babyscout is securely strapped in, you should be fine. Even if the worst were to happen and a fire get out of control, you can push the stroller away quickly. Hope it goes well!

Scout19075 · 29/06/2010 16:04

Oh trust me, I have his stroller straps set to tight. He can move, but not very far forward! LOL I'm hoping he'll have enough sense not to try to wiggle out -- he usually doesn't, but he likes the girlies and I'm afraid he'll want to get out for cuddles and tonight's not a night for Guide cuddles. It'll be a good night for pictures, though!

MaryBS · 29/06/2010 16:06

Tesco's are selling Pimms for £12, if you spend £30 instore... not sure if that helps anyone...

happycopter · 29/06/2010 16:58

Large virtual hugs to anyone who needs them.
I finally read through the entire thread last night in bed on my iPhone (brilliant thing) and have caught up on what's been happening with amber - at your boss, what a jerk!! Am also and at everything that's happened to you... I simply don't have the capacity to understand how people can be so cruel to anyone.

Herbaceous, will pop over to your thread in a bit. Am in work today so will have to steal the odd minute.

CMOT - funerals... why, please, why do they bring out the weirdness in people???? I hope the awkwardness passed quickly. I took a peek at your new pictures and almost woke up Jackbaby oooohing and aaaahhhhing at Tiddler in his riding costume. Scrummy!! I want to dip him in my coffee!!

Thumb - if bending over is not a good thing I'm hoping you're not heading for what I had. That was my first clue that things had lodged solidly in my sinuses. Bleurgh!!!

I'm happy to report my second day of clear snot (sorry about TMI but it's been highlighter yellow for over a week so this is cause for celebration). Didn't wake up with a headache this morning. Still feel tired a lot but given the George-Bush-type scorched-earth policy these antibiotics are acting out on my intestines, I suppose that's not too surprising.

(Note to anyone who's new or relatively so... since I haven't been around the Tea Room much you'd have no reason to know that I am The Queen of TMI... if I disgust anyone with too much detail, please feel free to hand me a nice cup of shut-the-hell-up .)

UniS · 29/06/2010 19:38

Sean Bean and Simon cowell.

Now I've just been checking to see if any else more obvious than holiday camp entertainers links 3 celebrity's and finding that of course they have all been in royal variety show, all appeared on surprise surprise ( but not together) and have all played same part in pantomimes over teh years... I think I'm looking too hard and should just go with 1st answer.

It rained on dartmoor last night AND we had a power cut ( well 2 actually). grass is looking greener which is good. one waterbut is full, the other only 1/4 so.

AND news of teh week. the new playground at village rec is open for playing. Hurrah. boy and I have racked up 3 visits today.

OP posts:
CMOTdibbler · 29/06/2010 20:03

I think I'd go with the holiday camp entertainers UniS - surely everyone has been on the RV and Suprise Suprise

Hurrah for the new playground ! Is it nice ?

Amber - just contemplate the inner workings of the MRI, and time will just fly by. The way they work still blows my mind now, especially as the beggars keep on making developments

So, is it Pimms O'clock now ?

Could someone clever tell me why my head hurts when I bend over - it feels like my brain is hitting the top of my skull when I go beyond horizontal forward. No pain at any other time. Weird or what

UniS · 29/06/2010 20:10

blocked sinus I reckon.

Chocolate and gin should shift it :-)

OP posts:
CMOTdibbler · 29/06/2010 20:13

It doesn't feel like a blocked sinus - no runny nose otherwise, no face tenderness at all.

But if you say to medicate with gin and chocolate, who am I to argue ?

MaryBS · 29/06/2010 20:24

Another vote for gin and chocolate

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 29/06/2010 21:21

Is someone prescribing chocolate and gin?

I have a serious medical condition - life - for which they might just be the remedy.

happycopter · 29/06/2010 21:34

I'll have some chocolate. But may I please have wine rather than gin? Gin gives me a headache and I've had enough of those in the last little while.

oxeye · 29/06/2010 21:37

Hello. I need Gin and Chocolate and Pimms. I think I have what Small has

Bensmum - that is great news, how exciting!

Herbaceous, welcome. I will try and visit your other thread, but am pushed for time, anyway, welcome welcome

AandO gladd you are not static

Happy and Thumb so sorry you are poorly

Now, Amber, I have googled you but can't find you, have some very specific advice for you which I don't want to give here, can you give me an email or someway to contact?

CMOT sorry about funeral, hope otherwise ok, thikning of grievers, any news from Donki lately?

Mistle, hope DH gets next contract

Racing, I raise your Wave and Dash

SMall, thanks for teh George Clooney cut out. It is there in my hour of need. Oxpoppins on Holiday and OxBloke in the Nether Reaches of far far away and I am, frankly, knackered since I am working and caring, I have had no more than 2 hours sleep a night for the last four nights. Last night I actually typed in my sleep. Surreal when I read it back

Gotta push through tonight, huge day tomorrow and then, oh then, a night off

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 29/06/2010 21:51

Oxeye - Eek. If you are having only two hours' sleep a night, you will soon need a great deal more than gin and chocolate. When does OxPoppins return? If you need help, you need only pick up the Old Bat Phone (aka CAT me). I am willing to invest £5 to be CATable.

oxeye · 29/06/2010 22:21

oh Small, that is so very lovely of you - you would shuck off your precious anonymity to help me out, that means a very great deal
actually Oxboy is going to nursery for the whole day tomorrow (he is terribly terribly excited "what Mummy, I am eating lunch there and everything?" and as long as I can crack on I'll be around to pick him up. Then only Thursday and Oxpoppins is back on Friday
but thank you so much

UniS · 29/06/2010 22:48

oxboy will , I'm sure, enjoy his FULL day at nursery, it'll be an adventure and he'll sleep well after all that excitement?

I discovered today that I am going to be in London with two children for two week starting Monday morning....

Uuuuurrrrrrmmmmm... eeeeeeek!!!! YES!!!! I said LONDON not Paris and REALLY I said TWO CHILDREN not one!!!!

Where do I take them what, do I do with them and knowing that we are used to Paris will we all survive the big smoke....????

Happy - TMI + hugs... hmmmm... that posting style needs no name for me to know who it is!!!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 29/06/2010 22:54

Well, obviously, Oxeye, I would need first to construct another false identity and dummy email address (SmallParanoia@hotmailcom, maybe). And as you know, I rather favour the need for a meet-up now. I've even bought my outfit.

But seriously, I am simultaneously impressed and very worried by this 'no sleep until Friday' thing. You must promise me that you will eat decent food (not just chocolate and twiglet surprise) and get some proper rest over the weekend.
