Tea Room the Fourteenth

amberlight · 21/03/2010 18:09

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

Happy Birthday Racing - am shamed that having asked you when it was, I promptly forgot

Gah to the laptop breakage Thumb. I was once asked to go away for 5 days at 5pm, to get a 9am flight the next day. These things happen ime

MT - the programme sounds lovely, but we are off on holiday for the week on Saturday. Fortunatly to Cornwall
What car are you getting ? Am always keen to see what others choose

at the wild break !

Having a study/spare room sounds like a sensible (but horribly realistic) move DMC

Am balancing writing boring, but necessary document, with MNetting as I can't face hours of doing it

mistlethrush · 20/04/2010 11:45

[green] at Cornish break. Particularly out-of-school holidays cornish break.

Am going to have to buttonhold Mrmistle and pin him down on a holiday time and destination as my parents are giving us some money for a joint birthday present for one given our financial situation this year.... but we need to get it booked!

Car - hampered by the need to be able to fit 2 adults, mistlechick, mistledog and double bass - so largeish estate. Basically it will be one model up from the existin (so we can have dual climate control in the front as mrmistle likes to drive in a icehouse). Make - put it this way, I sat in a more 'desirable' marque and decided that it was basically exactly the same car, but I would be paying an additional £50 per month in tax just to have a 2 letter logo on the front rather than a green bird sort of design.... Mistlechick is very upset at the thought of the old one going back though for some reason.....

TrowelAndError · 20/04/2010 11:47

I too am loitering here because the alternatives are not enticing. In fact, I may go out to look at paving slabs. Yes, I'm that desperate for entertainment!

CMOTdibbler · 20/04/2010 11:54

Our last out of school holiday break though. Am not really looking forward to having to go when it's busy though.

Dual climate control is def the way to go - we have the same issue with temp preferences.

How is Mr Mistles job going ?

Paving slabs is a bit desperate Trowel

mistlethrush · 20/04/2010 12:19

Fence panels are more interesting than paving slabs... although you might find some interesting plants, depending where you go!

We're lucky in that mistlechick breaks up a bit before most schools in the summer, so if we get our timings right we can get to places the week before most schools break up and its still a little cheaper and less crowded. However mrmistle has promised to play in something this time which rather wrecks the planning on that front...

Mrmistle's job's fine thanks - although only until the week before 1/2 term. Mind you, as his work is identifying how awful one of the people in their probationary period is, I suppose they might extend it until they can find someone else for that role... He's starting to look at other contract jobs in the area - there seem to be many more jobs coming up which is encouraging.

Finally got BabyScout to sleep in his basket he usually naps on me during the day and there's so many things I want to do and/or should be doing and what am I doing, instead? Sitting on the computer. Oh well!

TrowelAndError · 20/04/2010 17:06

Did you mention Easter egg, Scout? I like you already.

Thanks too to Amber for the loan of her exceedingly useful and fascinating tome, the companion volume to "Hard Landscaping In The Garden" by Pat E. Owe.

Would anyone like a cuppa?

larakitten · 20/04/2010 18:59

Hey all, just a quick post....Littlekitten quite concerned to look out our living room window and see SNOW..........wtf????? Its April!!!!!!!

oxeye · 20/04/2010 20:01

Bolly anyone? I need booze

change of name because I was just feeling the slightly outable weight of my previous nom de plume. I guess my family will be Oxbloke and Oxboy? (lack of imagination emoticons)

I have made a trip to a tile shop and discussed grout, with enthusiasm, when trying to avoid work before now xx

RacingSnake · 20/04/2010 20:46

Thank you all for birthday wishes and beautiful bunting. Back to school tomorrow, so off to fabricate fine tune reports.

TrowelAndError · 20/04/2010 21:21

A bijou glassette of Bolly would be delightful, Oxeye.

Would you like a takeaway Bolly, Racing? To provide inspiration as you use the tea room random report generator devote yourself to report-writing?

Larakitten - have you told us where you live?

RacingSnake · 20/04/2010 21:36

Are you actually going to lay a patio, Trowel? DH is thinking of extending the beautiful stoep he made behind our house (which brought on his very own Hernia Just Like GrandpereSnake), so I may be back to the builders' merchants searching out materials. I discovered that our local BM had a skip full of broken slabs and we have a beautuful stoep paved in slabs of various shapes and sizes at a cost of ..... £7.50! They needed me to pay for their accounting system. They said £10; I said £5 and we haggled a bit.

Donki · 20/04/2010 21:43

Thankyou Amber - do Bishops take notice of notices? You must have trained them well .

I need to get my vegetable patch tamed - but between work/small donkey/travelling to Sheffield (hospice) I'm a bit short of time.

The crazy thing is that being short of time always makes me procrastinate. Aaaargh!

Donki · 20/04/2010 21:51

Hot chocolate and brandy anyone?
Carrots for dessert!

TrowelAndError · 20/04/2010 22:13

I've had an idea How about Racing doing Donki's marking and Donki writing Racing's reports? If you use the Tea Room Random Report And Assessment Generator it should be a doddle.

I too procrastinate most when I have a lot to do, hence the trip to the DIY place today. My main procrastination technique is to faff about in the garden pursue my interest in the science and art of horticulture. But I do need some paving slabs or similar.

Racing - I am in awe of your negotiating skills buy struggling with definitions. Is a stoep like a verandah, so covered? I am imagining you and MonsieurSerpent sitting in planter's chairs, sipping gin slings.

RacingSnake · 20/04/2010 22:37

I think a stoep is probably like a veranda. We had one at the back of the farm house when I was a child, with a glass roof. Not sure about the difference between a patio and a terrace, though.

We do have a planter's chair (or at least something that I imagine looks like a PC) - a sort of adjustable deck chair made of wooden slats, which I found in a skip and seemed just too beautiful for firewood.

I am sure Donk's marking is more interesting than my reports - what subject do you teach?

Donki · 20/04/2010 22:42

RS: If it moves it's biology, if it smells it's chemistry and if it doesn't work it's physics...

Donki · 20/04/2010 22:43

AQA Additional Science (physics) P2 June 11th 2008

RacingSnake · 20/04/2010 22:45

Sure I could mark that!!

Scout19075 · 20/04/2010 22:52

quietly gasps: Must...have...chocolate....

Have a stock of Reeces waiting for me.

Really must stop on-line window shopping and go to bed.

Donki · 20/04/2010 23:08

I saw one of your relatives at Helmsley Castle on Sunday Mistle - small donkey got to watch it using an anvil to crack open the snail shell...

The remains of the keep makes a very big anvil!
