Tea Room the Fourteenth

amberlight · 21/03/2010 18:09

Welcome to the 14th instalment of the Tea Room. It's now officially spring, and we've moved the tea room to a Gipsy caravan pulled by the tea room horses, which is making its way up the countryside in an effort to follow spring. There are of course hedgerows filled with spring flowers, Mellors the handsome gardener/driver/handyperson, the usual virtual Bishops, and the assorted animals and characters from previous tea rooms. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!) for general chat and the occasional very odd conversation. Climb aboard, grab a cuppa, enjoy the view, relax!...

Jacksmama · 07/04/2010 15:28

Donk's back!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back!!! Cast of characters has changed a little, and the venue certainly has, but we're all as mad as ever still as entertaining

about your dad being in hospice. (((((HUG)))))

UniS · 07/04/2010 16:11

hello donk. welcome to teh caravan.

where has spring got to where you are?

Here spring has got past snowdrops and crocuses, daffodils are in full bloom, primroses just starting, grape hyacinths just starting. Catkinms on trees, sticky buds also, blossom on very sheltered trees only.

MaryBS · 07/04/2010 17:30

Lots of daffodils here, trees in blossom, plus the fish in the pond are awake. I even saw a few straggling snowdrops left this morning!

I've just woken up . Anyone for a cup of tea?

MaryBS · 07/04/2010 17:33

Ooo and I've just heard an ice cream van, round here they only come out in spring!

UniS · 07/04/2010 19:35

Its official, spring is here, mary has heard the first ice cream van of spring. Any other spring markers appeared for you ladies.

CMOTdibbler · 07/04/2010 20:05

Yes, a teeny, tiny rabbits foot left in the middle of the kitchen floor. And three mice last night.

The sure sign of spring will be the baby birds being brought in.

Here, we will soon have the tourist spectacular of the blossom trail. Where you can drive around and look at - you've guessed it - blossom.

We all have a yucky cold, and ds is not a happy bunny to have his cough back again

MaryBS · 07/04/2010 20:08

LOL Unis and YUK! CMOT!

Is it time for a drink yet? Cocktails on the terrace?

RacingSnake · 07/04/2010 20:23

Does our caravan have a terrace? Good-oh!

DHv asked todayb when my birthday is! As in, he remembered it!! (I have been mentioning it for weeks and he has bought Wriggle me an aquarium, which we are slowly installing. Not having another Christmas, where I go completely unremarked - not good for me!)

Loveli-ish day, mostly spent moving things around the garden.

Welcome back, Donk!

CMOTdibbler · 07/04/2010 20:30

When is your birthday Racing ?

DS would love an aquarium, but I fear that it would not be a good idea.

Cocktails on the terrace ? Sounds delightful !

RacingSnake · 07/04/2010 20:38

Monday week and why not a good idea? We are working on teaching Wriggle to ask permission before climbing onto the table with tghe aquarium, but I am suspicious about the mysterious pieces of chocolate foating in the water.

CMOTdibbler · 07/04/2010 20:48

I can visualise the cats regarding it as a help yourself fish buffet, or just staring into it all the time.

littletortie · 07/04/2010 20:49

Hello???!!!!!

Could I join you?

I have an only child, DD (6) who is absoilutely scrummy!!!

Would love to speak to parents like us

CMOTdibbler · 07/04/2010 20:57

Welcome to the one child family tearoom (which is currently a caravan, but don't worry about that) LittleTortie

We have all kinds of parents here, and assorted children, so you'll fit right in

littletortie · 07/04/2010 21:04

Lovely.....

We are struggling slightly with having an 'only' at the moment. We work full time and play dates and after school clubs are impossible to organise- Olivia refers to herself as a 'lonely' child

We would like more children but it just hasnt happened and Liv is very aware of that which makes it harder.

She used to be so confident but seems so introvert just lately.

I hope that talking to others in the same boat will help me a bit- and ultimately help Liv.

She starts street dancing lessons in 2 weeks and is on the waiting list for Brownies which is hopefully a step in the right direction

Just wish I could drag friends in off the street to play but would prob get arrested

TrowelAndError · 07/04/2010 21:25

Hello Littletortie. Lovely to meet you.

Perhaps we should compose the Tea Room Ode To The Ice Cream Van?

What cocktails do we have tonight? And is that Mellors I see, wearing a nifty little black jacket and shaking, not stirring, the Martinis?

drivingmisscrazy · 07/04/2010 21:45

hello Littletortie - sounds hard at the moment; do you think she is picking up on your disappointment? I mean do you think she actually feels lonely, or thinks she is lonely? There's lots of positives about being an only (and I am one, as well as being parent to an only). I hope that's not insensitive. Have one of our fine cocktails, or there's a glass of decent red still going.

All sorts of people here I haven't met - ice cream vans come every weekend, rain, hail, snow (possibly because no one can remember what summer is anymore, and if he waited for the sun to shine he'd never make any money )

Long day at work, very tired daughter, packing for trip (and because it's work all sorts of complexities with handouts and computers and printers) - put bag on scales (Ryanair!) = 5kg, put daughter on = 10kg! So in theory, I could put her in a bag and bring her too. I'll be gone for 4 days - really going to miss her and DP
but am liking the idea of lie-ins til 8! and not having to get home in time to let the on demand babysitter DP's sister or mum get home. THink I'll have wifi, so will probably drop in for a prosecco and some nibbles

Donki · 07/04/2010 21:46

Donk gets her galvanised bucket down and nudges it hopefully in the direction of the teapot...

She then retires to her hay pile in the corner - and defends it from marauding hungry horses.

I'm just here for a brief visit to say hello - and for a lovely bucket of tea, the universal panacaea.

Jacksmama · 07/04/2010 21:51

Welcome littletortie!
Wow, lots of lovely new people have joined us lately.

UniS · 07/04/2010 21:55

Teas up donk.
Unis fills the bucket and nudges it back to donk.

It must be spring, teh NMBs are waving feather dusters about, they have been spring cleaning.

Donki · 07/04/2010 21:56

I saw some cherry blossom in Leeds today!

Donks daffodils suffered sadly from marauding slugs (and what I want to know is how they survived the cold weather!)

Jacksmama · 07/04/2010 21:57

Racing, happy early birthday, in case I forget. the 19th, yes? That's the day JB and I will be flying home again from Toronto. My birthday is this Friday, the 9th. I have been promised a little lie-in (bliss) and apparently, DH and MIL are going shopping tomorrow, so, hmmmm!!

Donki · 07/04/2010 21:58

Just so long as the NMBs leave my hay alone! I don't want to be spring cleaned out of the caravan...

Donki · 07/04/2010 21:58

Donk raises head long enough to say thanks to UniS for the tea...

UniS · 07/04/2010 21:59

donk, I don't recommend eating the daffodils dear. I know its yellow like your hay, but really, not good for you.
