Welcome to the newest instalment of the One Parent Families tea room. As it's heading for spring, we're now in a nice warm orangery surrounded by woodland filled with spring flowers. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!), the tea room gardener/handyman Mellors, various virtual Bishops (don't ask) and a variety of other characters from previous tea rooms. Grab a cuppa, relax!...

See, I couldn't even write noooo sense without a typo!

thumbwitch · 03/03/2010 22:02

lol at mindy's "bones fell out somewhere near Chipping Sodbury" - excellent turn of phrase! Hope your legs and bum aren't too incapacitated, I remember it took a couple of days for my legs to recover after just a 3m journey (after many years of not cycling much at all) so I synpathise. Have some tiger balm to rub into the aching bits (not your bum though! At least, not the middle area)

MT - I'm quite often up at that time - go to bed at same time as miniThumb (9pm) and wake up a couple of hours later, do emails and MN for a couple of hours, go back to bed.

UniS · 03/03/2010 22:31

been out on a bike yesterday and today, two different bikes which may be why I felt fine till I sat down on the saddle this afternoon and felt my sit bones protest gently.

Had a fairly horris afternoon with boy. he wanted to go out on his bike, arranged to meet another family at rec ground, got boy and bike out and then he refused to ride... gggrrrrr. kept saying he couldn't do it, couldn't do it, wanted to walk. so after a bot of him faffing about in middle of road I got cross.

Eventuality got to park ( of course he rode there very competently once I'd got him ON teh damm thing. he's a good cyclist.

Then proceeded on way home to have a total melt down because I said no to his having a lolly. So he tried to take one , from shop, behind my back. Now that really annoyed me and he got royally bawled out for that. I didn't think I'd be having to tell off a 3 yr old for shop lifting. maybe it'll be easier to get it over with now rather than when hes 10 and able to be good at it. he had no chance of getting away with it today.

I have a cold, my neck aches, I want more sleep. DH isn;t home from choir yet and I want Mellors.
Unis stamps her foot petulantly and flounces to massage table.

MellorstheGardener · 03/03/2010 22:42

You called, UniS?

UniS · 03/03/2010 23:21

zzzzz

amberlight · 04/03/2010 09:05

I was going to write something, but the description of Mellors seems to have rendered me speechless...

Amber - all my potted plants at home get cold tea - they seem to like it more than just water!

UniS - you can get off the massage table now - Mellors went out to feed Earl and Lady Grey about 3 hrs ago....

MindySimmons · 04/03/2010 10:18

thumbwitch - lol at the tiger balm advice! Even original source Mint and Tea tree shower gel is quite challenging in that dept!

UniS - sympathies on the meltdown front, I just love the moments when they are fixed on definitely wanting to do something then suddenly decide its the last thing on earth they want to do (with that decision normally happening at the most inconvenient time or place!)

Not sure who is in charge of Mellor's treatment diary but I'm off out at lunchtime for a run and would like Mellors ready with an infusion of lavender and peppermint oils for the muscle ache and no shirt just for the hell of it!

UniS - seriously, time to get off that massage table, the snoring and dribbling through the table's facehole is not a good look

AandO · 04/03/2010 10:39

UniS well done on the cycling. I myself never ever exercise but feel badly about this and really should for the sake of my long term health. I'm full of good intentions, I even bought trainers last year - I ran a few times and then stopped. Really should start again.

Also sympathise with the boy meltdown, this type of thing happens all the time around here - 3 year old boys eh! It's that kind of way where I try to do necessary things while LittleO is at childminders and do my tesco shop online. I'm hoping he'll grow out of it and have a higher tolerance for doing things he'd rather not ....I'm not holding out any hope though!

AandO · 04/03/2010 17:17

Where is everyone today?!

amberlight · 04/03/2010 17:30

Sort of here, but been racing about...

Been out on great course today, learning about how to link foreign languages and literacy. And I learnt a new word - malacology (I think). The study of molluscs. This is the sort of knowledge you, as taxpayers, are paying for your children to learn. I do like words - did you know that the word 'cash' was originally the name of a small Chinese coin?

CMOTdibbler · 04/03/2010 21:39

Sounds interesting RS.

Back from the cold now - and have been rubbing shoulders with the great and the good. Well, sitting next to them in the restaurant at least. We wondered why the table next to us last night was all set out with flowers and posh glasses - then members of the Finnish cabinet turned up, followed by the immediate past prime minister of Finland, and members of Swedish cabinet. Turned out there was a NATO meeting there today.

Cheese and twiglets ?

UniS · 04/03/2010 21:43

erughh, eh, what. huh?

I don't do mornings.

ohhh, bad hair day. Major bed head or should that be table head.

um, maybe NMBs can take care of the small snot mountain under the table and generally disinfect it before any one else climbs aboard. Just as well there is a spare in the small massage parlour.

RacingSnake · 04/03/2010 21:58

Mmmm, twiglets. Wriggle has discovered them today, but insists on calling them 'piglets'. Piglet, anyone?

MellorstheGardener · 04/03/2010 23:31

Ladies?

daisy99divine · 05/03/2010 00:32

Hello all, HELLO MELLORS!

ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

MaryBS · 05/03/2010 07:55

Aw, missed the late massage

Parents evening last night. DS and DD are doing well it seems, although I must mention a slight feeling of cringiness when I see what DD writes about in her literacy books - in terms of talking about family outings etc. Apparently her best day ever started with her being "dragged out of bed and down to church", before going out for the day...

mistlethrush · 05/03/2010 09:19

We had a melt down after school yesterday.

Ds only got 2 smilies becuase, following having a bit of a problem with his two friends, he got onto the climbing frame and wouldn't come down or in - the TA had to send the class in without her (luckily teacher was in the classroom by then) and waiting for ages outside until she could get mistlechick to come down.

He was fairly miserable most of the way home, then rushed into the house and ran upstairs and didn't want to come down. Ended up in a snotty heap on my lap - then we read his two library books and that made him a bit happier.

Must have a phone round people and find out how many would be around if he has his party on a certain day - otherwise we'll have to go for one before his birthday which is still during term time.

MaryBS · 05/03/2010 16:50

Aw bless him....

Fingers crossed, had a hard disk failure on my laptop. Am attempting techy solutions, by trying to fix any errors. Took me ages to get it to boot up from a CD rather than the hard disk. In fact am totally impressed with myself for finding the CD that came with the laptop, which is about 6 years old. Am currently running chkdsk, see if that'll fix it...

MaryBS · 05/03/2010 18:53

YAY! Seems to have worked , lets just hope there are no after effects...

UniS · 05/03/2010 19:58

Hurrah for Marys techy skills.

Did you have a service today? we had a Womens world day of prayer thing plus lunch. Boy tried to eat butter like it was cheese... till I spotted and stopped that sort of thing.

Mean mummy then refused to comply with boys choice of activity for the afternoon. he wanted to go to nearest town BMX track... great fun for boy, dead boring for mum. So I refused and took him for a walk on the moors instead. Of course he had a fantastic time and enjoyed him self lots.

DH off down pub, I'm considering going later, tho am full of cold so it may not be the smartest idea ever.

MaryBS · 06/03/2010 09:54

No, we didn't have a service, I believe there was one at the cathedral though. I am not too keen on anything with Women in the title, even if men do sometimes go too. Not keen on women-only groups either.

amberlight · 06/03/2010 13:00

Thank goodness for Mellors and the Bishops, in that case

Morning/afternoon all. Dh's big birthday today so much celebrating happening.

Who's for a slice of birthday cake and a balloon?
