Tea Room the Ninth: I love rock and roll, put another dime in the juke box baby

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 16/06/2009 22:20

Welome to the ninth incarnation of the tea room. It's been a long and eventful road, from a tea room overlooking a cathedral garden to a beachside cafe, with a diversion via a yurt. Now - voila - we are in a music lounge. We cater for all tastes and, as this is a tea room of requirement, it manages simultaneously to be many things at once. For some, it is a 70s glam rock disco with a cool boho edge - glitter balls, smoke machine and much wearing of platform shoes and eyeliner. For others, a jazz bar where mellow music is played as cocktails are served. For still others, it's a concert performance of Spem In Allium. We still have a garden, with shady parasols for the summer, and a menagerie of pets. Our membership is international.

The tea room has few rules. Everyone is welcome. But anyone visiting with the sole intention of causing hurt or shouting abuse will be ejected by Mellors, the multi-talented gardener-handyman who (it turns out) is also a guitar wizard and rock god.

Please come in.

UniS · 11/08/2009 22:48

Wooooo Hooooo so pleased for you TW.

Middle of next week IS going to busy for us isn;t it.

amberlight · 12/08/2009 07:24

Many congrats to those moving!!!! Much tea and biscuits to be provided at any point where you can drop in and grab some. Or we can make up a 'tea box' (like a lunchbox but with more tea in it).

CMOTdibbler · 12/08/2009 13:36

Hurrah Thumb

Am packing a bag with thermos and tupperwares of cakes for you UniS

Catitainahatita · 13/08/2009 15:38

BIG CONGRATULATIONS THUMB

I've got all my fingers and toes crossed for you in the hope that the journey and the settling in are as easy as possible.

thumbwitch · 13/08/2009 23:22

Thank you all kindly - am suffering from some kind of reactive stress now = very very grumpy and extremely short fuse - poor Mr and MiniThumb! And ThumbDad as well, for that matter - he's been chewed up as well a couple of times .

Still so much to do and time ebbingflooding away; shouldn't be on here at all...

amberlight · 15/08/2009 09:01

My goodness, I may have killed the occupants of the tea room with the soup!

thumbwitch · 15/08/2009 09:57

no no, amber - just manically running around like a loon - thank you for comforting soup! Plus been on the Daily Hatemail thread, which takes a lot of reading...

amberlight · 15/08/2009 17:07

Oh the Daily Wail is a nightmare. They did a 2 page spread on a piece of work I did, made up every fact in it, and put a disgusting cartoon in to mock it too. I was ill with stress afterwards as I hadn't realised newspapers can do that (ever a problem with the naivity of aspies).

Catitainahatita · 15/08/2009 19:19

I think that it must be sunny over with you, that's all Amber! There's not been anyone around very much for days.
I have avoided the Daty Hate thread, but got sucked into a feminist one which I have enjoye quite throroughly.

Your soup was lovely, btw!

amberlight · 16/08/2009 08:41

Turtles!!!!!!!!!! Thank you

I'd love some Turkish tea please.
Have done washing up, and note that Mellors seems to have gone on holiday, judging from the postcard from Monaco with him on the mult-million-pound yacht . And he never invited us

UniS · 16/08/2009 20:50

Turtles indeed, litle leathery looking ones. NOw why did they remind me of male genitals...

Just having a breather from de-cluttering/ packing. Thank you for the thermos, most handy. and teh little tupperware box of choc muffins was a boon.

So the next 5 days, lets see what I'm expecting.

Boy has swim school every morning 9-9.30 I have to collect keys to new place sometime on tuesday. Removals men arrive 9am wed ( DH is doing that one) we move wednesday. BiL ( teh nice one) comes to stay at new house wed night ( he is a sales rep and in our area wed-thursday). Thursday we try and find stuff in boxes. Friday its swim school, followed by toddler group end of an era party as most of teh kids are leaving for school so group is closeing. Followed by exhibition opening and party at teh art gallery where boy and I have been taking part in their kids summer workshops leading up to this exhibition.

I may see you lovelys at some point, or I may not. Best of british to teh rest of you.

See you on teh other side.

thumbwitch · 17/08/2009 01:07

Am having nervous breakdown, am sure of it.
Still haven't got everything packed up ready for the air freight crate and we have to take it to the company tomorrow. MrThumb has done the things he was supposed to, i.e. fix the car up, but has washed his hands of any packing (fair enough, I spose, it is all my stuff) and is getting Arsey about everything being ready. Don't blame him.
Would help if wasn't in middle of editing book which has to be submitted to publishers end August. ARRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

teafortwo · 17/08/2009 11:05

Oh Thumb - Just keep breathing and all will be fine - I can feel it in my bones! Be well and lots of good wishes your way x x x x

CMOTdibbler · 17/08/2009 11:14

Calm thoughts Thumb - this too shall pass.

We had a lovely weekend - Warwick castle, swimming, and the ILs for a few hours at their house.

Takeaway coffee and tiffin boxes for those in need of portable succor are on the counter.

Apple and blackberry muffins and coffee anyone ?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 17/08/2009 22:00

Hello everybody. It's wonderful to see you all. I've just got back from Italy, where I was staying with a very dear friend who has a house there.

I'm absurdly gratified that you noticed I was gone (although I did a little lurking from Italy). It's a bit late now, but ((((hugs)))) for Kittenito and for Mistle and Unis. It's great to see Zazen, Dita and Amber again. It seems as if ManinaDirndl isn't coming back, but I share Catita's misgivings about the tone of some of his posts on other threads. I hope the Racingfamily trip to Cannes was a success and that Cmot is now in fine fettle. The meet-up sounded wonderful .

Now. Who'd like some prosecco?

Good to see you back, Madbad

I hope you are less stressed today Thumb. You can do it!

Samt to you Unis

Here all is well and dandy. As long as Kitenito avoids getting ill again in the next couple of days I should be off to San Luis Potosí (a nearby-ish city, 4 and hours coach trip) to give a conference to the great unwashed of that entity.

At least as it is in the mountains, it might be somewaht cooler overthere

Jacksmama · 18/08/2009 18:38

Safe trip Thumb!!!!!! Can't wait to read reports of Oz.
And happy thoughts to everyone else!

UniS · 18/08/2009 20:02

picked up keys to new house today. took boy in to chose his bedroom. had picnic lunch and took him to local park. all in all a good day. boy excited, dh and I rather apprihensive about MOVING DAY toorrow. Not that we show it, both getting our internet fix right now.

Boy is convinved teh removal lorry driver will be called Ian, I'm hoping for Mellors, any one mind if I borrow him for a day or two to help unpack.

CMOTdibbler · 18/08/2009 20:28

Welcome back MadBad. I hope you didn't wear George out

I'm sure Mellors is an excellent unpacker. Not sure what your DH might think though.

The great declutter continues apace, as does the cats declutter of the local wildlife. Todays count was 3 birds, a mouse, a frog, and the smell in the kitchen traced to under the tumble dryer

In an 80's throwback, I have been wearing blue mascara that I bought when I was with JM. It is a rather more sober blue than I wore back then, and is rather nice
