Tea Room the Ninth: I love rock and roll, put another dime in the juke box baby

Welome to the ninth incarnation of the tea room. It's been a long and eventful road, from a tea room overlooking a cathedral garden to a beachside cafe, with a diversion via a yurt. Now - voila - we are in a music lounge. We cater for all tastes and, as this is a tea room of requirement, it manages simultaneously to be many things at once. For some, it is a 70s glam rock disco with a cool boho edge - glitter balls, smoke machine and much wearing of platform shoes and eyeliner. For others, a jazz bar where mellow music is played as cocktails are served. For still others, it's a concert performance of Spem In Allium. We still have a garden, with shady parasols for the summer, and a menagerie of pets. Our membership is international.

The tea room has few rules. Everyone is welcome. But anyone visiting with the sole intention of causing hurt or shouting abuse will be ejected by Mellors, the multi-talented gardener-handyman who (it turns out) is also a guitar wizard and rock god.

Please come in.

I think we are due rain as well - the wind has picked up, I have had to actually close windows to stop things blowing about, definitely nowhere near as sticky and pretty grey - hurrah!!

tizzy as opposed to tissy, yes.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 03/07/2009 13:09

We've had rain this morning. Boltzmann was not a happy cat as he hasn't worked out the cat flap yet, and I shut all the windows, so he couldn't wander in and out. Now it's stopped and it is lovely and cool

Hurrah for DaisyBoy !

My cleaner is coming back next week - hurrah for us, but for her as it is because her DH finally succumbed to his cancer. She came in yesterday, looked at the carpet and said that she was looking forward to whipping us into shape again

daisy99divine · 03/07/2009 14:13

We have a trasure chest lucky dip and hats and a Beware pirate sign and and and... I am finding it hard to concentrate at work. I think it is a little unreasonable to be this excited. Perhaps I need to go out more

Sorry CMOT for the circumstances but HURRAH for cleaner return!

daisy99divine · 03/07/2009 21:44

FANCY A DRINK???

Not you, NMBs! It's past your bed time!

Seems like I have Mellors and Goerge all to myself!

Don't hurry back my friends

CMOTdibbler · 03/07/2009 21:55

Lured in by bolly..

Racingpig ! Nice to see you , but mind out, Carruthers is looking at you in a funny way..

I hear some rather odd noises out on the decking - is it RacingMissPiggy ?

Off to a beer festival tomorrow afternoon, to see an old boyfriend, his wife and son. Should be a nice afternoon

mistlethrush · 03/07/2009 22:03

I hope the pirate party goes well! MJ's 3rd birthday party was quite low key - we basically stayed out playing in the garden! We did have a few games, but they were not particularly popular compared with the climbing frame, swing and sandpit! Mind you, it seemed to work quite well (with an easter egg hunt thrown in) for his 4th as well.

thumbwitch · 03/07/2009 22:13

a pirate party, hey? Are you having a lovely Johnny Depp-alike pirate along for the mums children as well?

Spritzer night tonight - or perhaps a Babycham?

mistlethrush · 03/07/2009 23:04

No, definitely bolly tw - holiday tomorrow, a week away, posting might be a bit hit and miss.....

Adam Art, hey - was he related to Adam Ant?
And it better be his Stand and Deliver outfit as opposed to his Prince Charming outfit... in which case, me next for the massage table!

oh ok then, you twisted my arm, bolly it is...

MellorstheGardener · 04/07/2009 00:08
thumbwitch · 04/07/2009 00:13

so long as he's borrowing the Stand and Deliver outfit, I'm not bothered!

CMOTdibbler · 04/07/2009 20:49

It's Pimms o'clock !

MellorstheGardener · 04/07/2009 20:55

Yippee!

thumbwitch · 04/07/2009 23:02

Ahh, kir royale for me again tonight - anyone like one?

CMOTdibbler · 05/07/2009 19:26

Luvverly. In fact Kir Royale is the only cocktail I drink

Good weekend everyone ?

UniS · 05/07/2009 19:44

no so bad. I didn;t hang out tin teh tea room last night as I was ... reading a book.

www.clarionhouse.org.uk/ it seems we may be following their example in some ways. I love the idea of a tea room that you are EXPECTED to bring your own food too, but may purchase pints of tea to wash it down with.

DH is stillout playing cricket, I bought boy home early as he was VVVV tired and some what whingy boy. Yesterday he went out bike riding in teh woods with DH and rode about 4 miles off road. now I wonder WHY hes so tired...
Preschool tromorrow so I want him not quite so horrid.

MT- are you still coming down to DEvon on holiday or did I mis it?
Waves to Amber if shes lurking or watching us through a mirror.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/07/2009 20:18

Hello everyone. I am mildly sunburnt from yesterday's school fair (obviously the gazebo wasn't completely sunproof [sunburn effect]) but otherwise fine. We've just done some energetic cycling in the park - well, at least, MadBadBaby has.

Waves from me, too, to Amber and Justa if they're about or peeping from the priest's hole. Has anyone seen Donk or Catita recently? I'm agog for news of the DaisyPirateBoy party, too.

Any kir royale left, perchance?

Our weekend was ok; too much of it spent watching tennis but hey - it's over now.

Went to DSis's house this pm for her DD3's 3rd b'day party - she was lucky with the weather. I felt like a complete overprotective mum, keeping a close watch on mini-Thumb (PFB alert!) but he was the smallest walking child there, and the age range went up to 12 or so. Lots of parents too but all having a good time and pretty much leaving all the DC to create a bear garden how they wanted. Anyway we didn't stay that long because had chauffeured Dad there too and he wasn't feeling too good - the hot flushes are still bothering him so we left after about 1.5 hours.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/07/2009 22:20

Cheers, Thumb! Can I make one for you too?

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 05/07/2009 22:28

ooh ta, lovely - do you want to know?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/07/2009 22:51

Well, I know I won't escape the wall to wall meeja coverage tomorrow.
