Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

1000 replies

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

A Previous incarnation of Tea room may be found here

Morning all!

Well, ds gave another splendid and (in part) improvised performance to the audience last night. Was a bit when several young ladies rushed from the audience at the end to hug him. These were ones who aren't even part of his normal hareem of admirers! What it is to be young!!

Toast and crumpets available with tea and coffee this morning...

Hope all those with offspring who are or feeling themselves are going to have a better day of it.

Racingsnake · 19/03/2009 07:34

Mmmm, crumpets. Well done, Fine Lad.

mistlethrush · 19/03/2009 10:22

at Amber's son's ability to stand up and spout on stage at that age!!!!

Sorry Thumb - and Daisy - didn't mean to miss you off!!!! Hope you're both well...

Delightful journey to school/work this morning. Got most of the way to school and MJ threw up. Everywhere. Over everything. No call for bowl etc... So did quick U turn and back home (with air con on cold and all of the windows open). Arrived home, called for backup (at least there are some advantages of Mr MT not working at the moment - then removed some of the worst, then lifted MJ out of car onto the drive. Had to sit him down to removed shoes. Removed most clothes on the driveway - then shirt and pants in the hall - by now he was happily running around wiht no clothes on! then dressed in new clothes and gave him a bit of water and washed his hands and face... Mr MT coping with car - luckily we have a washable seat cover - which is now being washed - although we'll have to wash his car seat cover overnight!...

Drove back into school with MJ just in his shirt , wet tie in the back, air con on cold and all the windows open! The thing he was most worried about was going back to school effectively without having had any breakfast - so he has a pot of bread and 'bees honey' to eat too!

The delights of having two parents who both were (are) car sick!

mistlethrush · 19/03/2009 12:48

How about some toasted sandwiches with cheese and shallots, lovingly done under the grill with homemade bread (will stop there before I make myself too hungry!). Not sure what soup they would go well with... Leek and potato?

daisy99divine · 19/03/2009 13:05

Morning!
well, there I was feeling smug thankful that DaisyBoy hadn't been sick - and this morning when I got him out of cot he had* been I just hadn't realised
all over his hair, his pillow, his grobag, his sheets

I feel awful that he could have choked and I heard nothing

bloody coughs! I am with you there, Racing!

Total envy at all personal grooming. I think I look flobbier than pre-Daisyboy and I don't like that much...

Pass the toast, crumpets, tea and coffee!!

daisy99divine · 19/03/2009 13:06

by the way amber your boy sounds like he is getting the hand of impro - watch out, he'll be a stand up comic, not an actor!

Here Comes Baby Amber Merton/Dee!!!

thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 13:43

Dear me - what a lot of sicky DCn!

There isn't a bug going round the Yurt, is there? Can you imagine the mess if the NMBs get it??

My sis and her 3DDs have all had D&V in the last week, from the oldest one's school . I am not going near them - DS could do without it - she has her MIL and her DP's other family helping out. Plus we don't want Dad to get anything in the middle of his treatment, and one of us needs to be available if he needs help suddenly.

I never did much in the way of personal grooming - don't like make up much, hair is impossible to deal with anyway so just keep it long and have no waist so most fashion clothes look somewhat ridiculous on me. I used to have an ironing board figure but now it's a very padded ironing board - the essential shape hasn't changed, there's just more coverage! But I am neat and tidy 95% of the time.

amber - more kudos to your DS! He'll have his own fanclub before you know it.

MT - no probs, knew it wasn't going to be deliberate!

amber32002 · 19/03/2009 13:47

He already does have his own fanclub and do his own comic routines . Often in the middle of classes, I note from his last school report

Goodness me, so many people being . Hope it all stops very soon for everyone.

Bishops, romping? It was bad enough with them and the trampoline. Or am I not allowed to mention that, I wonder...

Soup - lightly spiced lentil, with lewd rolls, anyone?

mistlethrush · 19/03/2009 14:41

Ours was only car sickness luckily. Still [bleughhh] to deal with, but at least he's not feeling unwell!

I went to parent's evening last night. Apparently MJ is OK on short stories, but can't cope with long ones, ends up sprawling, legs in whatever direction, usually ending up under the computer table fidling with the cables

He's also part of a terrible trio - his teacher says they are like siblings - when they are all getting on its fantastic. However, 2 of them will often gang up on the 3rd...

I hope that his shoes last until the Easter Hols - new before he went back at the beginning of term, he now has no leather on two patches on one of his toes

UniS · 19/03/2009 18:20

Dh off work all dy feeling sick and ick. So boy and I went out both morning nd afternoon.

Have just spent the morning (well, morning here) catching up on everyone while Jackbaby is sleeping on my lap. Poor little mite, he had another rough night.

Daisy, what is amber necklace?

Nothing else to add since I last posted... only that neither taxes, nor patient's med-legal report, nor continuing ed credits have been done since last week due to teething and DH's illnesss. DH was supposed to take charge of Jackbaby (both were meant to go to MIL's to take her shopping and banking) this morning so I could get my taxes done. He decided instead to go to MIL's alone because he thought (to be fair, perhaps justifiably so) that he didn't want to take Jackbaby out of the house as it is raining cats and dogs today. It's noon, he's not back yet, Jackbaby has not been able to nap without being cuddled, my taxes are not done and I have not showered yet - and I have to work this afternoon, so must leave the house in 1 1/2 hours...

[frustrated, helpless emoticon]

mistlethrush · 19/03/2009 19:26

JM sympathetic vibes coming in our direction >>>>>>>>>>

MJ used to get what looked like blisters on his gums about a week before his teeth broke through. It was also very really obvious sometimes as he would get one bright red cheek...

Amber necklaces - meant to be good to chew on.

The teethers that helped ds most were the ones you could put in the fridge - we had 3 on the go at once - one in hand, one to wash and put back in the fridge, one in fridge nice and cool... Then later we inherited a 'stage 4' teether - which was a bit like a horse's bit - he would chew it really thoroughly - good for molars.

I apparently teethed on raw runner beans - good time of year for it apparantly!

mistlethrush · 19/03/2009 19:27

That was meant to be your

Jacksmama · 19/03/2009 19:29

[boomerang sympathetic vibes emoticon]

UniS · 19/03/2009 20:45

um- sorry I was rather short last time i bounded in. Boy wanted to play a game RIGHT NOW and I was trying to not over tax DH and his poor delicate constitution.
I think he really has been proper poorly, hes had nowt but a little water and half a cream cracker since yesterday lunch time.

Have had rather funny e-mail from a guardian journalist with two spelling mistakes in 3 sentences. Made I LOL. EVEN I can use a spell checker.

SO- WE HAVE ONLY 200 OR LESS POSTS ON THIS THREEAD BEFORE WE HAVE TO SET UP A NEW TEA ROOM. and only 199 or less before I need to stop hitting caps lock by accident.
Where do people fancy going next? another yurt , this one re-furbished, back to the old place or a new sparkly art deco inspired sun lounge.

Donk · 19/03/2009 20:54

Jacksmama - I don't suppost you could offer advice on the cheapest way to get to Juneau?

Jacksmama · 19/03/2009 21:08

From here or from the U.K.?

Donk · 19/03/2009 21:31

Either - we could fly to Seattle, or Edmonton, (in fact have to!)then travel on.

I think hoofing it would take longer than we have...

Although looking at the prices I have found so far, it may be the only option!

mistlethrush · 19/03/2009 21:35

Its (that first came out as ITS in response to UniS I think!) amazing isn't it how a totally unconnected group of people, on several continents, have come together and created our own little community that seems to travel onwards happily together!

MJ has had two really good days at school - which after last weekend is and - he's had 4 (yes, FOUR) stickers over the last two days resulting in a big sticker (end of line on sticker chart!). He is also the only child in the form to have 2 leaves on the friendship 'tree' which is good. Now just have to sort out a wider general friendship in the group so that he is less reliant on the other two in the 'terrible threesome'!

Apparently the other class also has a terrible threesome - and the two classes swap one of them out now and again for a bit of variety and peace and quiet!

thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 21:47

Evening ladies and sundry animals!

HOpe everyone who is/was under the weather is feeling better, or at least starting to?

UniS - although I like the yurt, what about a Spa? with hot tubs and jacuzzis and floating bars and things? And waiters of course - Mellors could have a rest for a bit (or he could become the Spa masseur...)

Donk · 19/03/2009 21:50

Jacksmama - scratch Edmonton - I've finally found Alaska Airways' route map. We have to go through Seattle. One airline, one route. I guess special offers may be few and far between.

Donk · 19/03/2009 21:51

Hmmm
I'm not sure I like being a sundry animal!

Carrot anyone?

UniS · 19/03/2009 21:55

ohhhhhh a spa. I've never been to one, wouldn't know what to do with my self at one in RL I suspect, but a virtual tea room spa... I could have a go at pretending I knew what I was doing...
I tell a lie- I HAVE been to a spa, but it was scarborough spa, a somewhat faded sea side entertainments palace, not a taking the waters and swanning about in a white dressing gown kinda place at all. We used to have the odd big theatre party there and the National student drama festival was based there and it always good going and rat arsed in the bar with that lot. I remember ( vaguely, blearily ) a few dawn walking home across the beach type memories.
Do you think the NotSoNMBs would come too? could get messy, that lot in a swimming pool!

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 21:55

Sorry Donk - I don't really see you as a sundry animal, more as a lady, despite the ears, tail and hooves (think boys on Pleasure Island in Pinocchio, or am I digging myself into a deeper hole?)

Carrot would be very nice ta - am trying to steer clear of chocolate as have just had my broken wisdom tooth patched today, prior to needing to have it extracted some time in the next month.

thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 21:57

NSNMBs could have their own pool - if they're all male babies, they wouldn't need a jacuzzi as they could produce enough bubbles by themselves! DS has just discovered the joys of this... his face was a delight!
