Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

1000 replies

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

A Previous incarnation of Tea room may be found here

Thanks for the Cake Amber!

Jacksmama · 06/03/2009 16:21

While you're at it could you Google how one "girds one's loins"? Or is that the chastity belt thingy?

Happy Birthday to Mr. Amber.

about insurance claims for everyone, but at Jag story...

CMOTDibbler · 06/03/2009 16:31

I think it was a missile - but all over in record time as no one got distracted and just agreed we had all the bits of paper in place to do the release (yay !)

Red hair. Well, to be precise, Garnier Belle Colour natural light auburn. Didn't have time to get out to have nails done, but will paint them in a minute - dark chocolate toes, clear fingers. FCUK Tellin dress and boots

So what Jag do you have Amber ?

Catitainahatita · 06/03/2009 16:32

LARGE SLICE of cake for me please.. I have a seminar with my dissertation students in a bit and need to be sufficiently fortified to withstand the barrage of questions/problemas/general argumentativeness of it all

I'm sure I was never like this

amber32002 · 06/03/2009 16:39
Catitainahatita · 06/03/2009 16:50

Thanks very much, Amber. Just what I needed.

Perhaps we could get Mellors to do us a demonstration of "girding up ones loins" I'm sure we would all appreciate that.

amber32002 · 06/03/2009 16:58

If the girding done by Mellors is anything to do with missiles, I'm taking cover in the bunker priest hole

Donk · 06/03/2009 21:29

Thankyou Mellors, that was lovely!

Happy Birthday Mr. Amber

And thus ends another day - it was nice to get back to the school where I am currently doing long term supply (2 days/week). It is definitely civilised - not that it doesn't have some 'characters' or difficult classes, but its all a case of degree.

I swear that the last fortnight has been at least a year long...

Tea?

mistlethrush · 06/03/2009 23:04

Glass of bolly to welcome the weekend anyone?

thumbwitch · 06/03/2009 23:15

ah lovely, ta MT!

Evening all

a Happy Birthday (just in time) to Mr Amber and at the Jag...

I can't even get started on the number of supremely annoying insurance claims/rip offs I have had to put up with - the last was the "best" - breeze blocks were dropped on my parked car, at the front of my house. By a Jewson's delivery lorry (being delivered to the wanker bloke who lives sort of beside me, too complex to explain properly).

Anyway, I phone Jewson's to see if they have an incident report - nothing. They say they'll investigate and get back to me - nothing. Luckily my neighbour witnessed the aftermath (heard the crash of the breeze blocks dropping, luckily only down the side of my car so really only cosmetic damage and a couple of dings) and photographed the lorry numberplate and proximity to my car, position of broken pallet etc.

So, I took the car for repair estimate which obviously was enough for insurance co. to write the car off. I say, ok, give me 90% of car value and I keep car. They send me 90% of car value MINUS EXCESS. I query reclaiming the excess, but APPARENTLY you can't get the excess back if the car wasn't being driven at the time!!! I mean, WTF?? It was even less my fault than it could possibly have been if I had been driving the car (which is asking for trouble in some cases anyway) and I can't get my excess back?

and b-r-e-a-t-h-e.

Catitainahatita · 07/03/2009 03:32

Evening all,

Aah, that might steady my nerves somewhat.

I realise that you are all in bed, but am in a state of shock and need to spill the beans before DH gets back from his night out.

Backstory: I am an insulin dependent diabetic and have various problems thanks said condition that made DS a bit of a minor miracle in our lives to say the least.

Anyway, this week it ocurred to me that my period was overdue and that my glucose (blood sugar) was behaving some what rashly. Yesterday morning I puked; ditto this morning. In the light of this evidence, I toddled off after work to the phamacist for a test. It came back very positive.

I think I am pleased, but also am pretty apprehensive about the whole thing and how it may end. Above all, I am concerned about what my endoctrinologist will have to say about all this.

I wondered, given the nature of this thread, if I should tell you all about it. I don't want to be insensitive or hurt anyone's feelings. But I'm crap at pretending and would rather be honest about the whole thing.

Anyway step one is to tell DH when he gets in. I hope he'll be pleased....

Perhaps I'll have a wee bit more virtual Bolly then...

kickassangel · 07/03/2009 03:50

congratulations!!

if you're pleased, we're pleased.

just stick to the virtual bolly.
myself, i've been on the not so virtual stuff, whilst dh collapses ina pile after ridiculous business trip & too much beer at the pub (handy tip if yo want a quiet night.)

amber32002 · 07/03/2009 06:07

Catita, wow! I'm pleased, though there must be a thousand emotions to contend with?? You'd better sit down and put your feet up and let Mellors give you a nice cup of something...

Thumbwitch, what on this earth did that insurance company think they were playing at? Dare we ask its name so we can avoid it??

DontCallMeBaby · 07/03/2009 09:49

Thumb you would think that it was in Waitrose's best interest NOT to have their customers doing unspeakable things to their cars in their carparks (or elsewhere for that matter) as anything that has to be spent on car repairs isn't going to get spent on Baby Bottom Butter, nice Jonelle kids' clothes and organic veg.

It's been like a real-life tearoom at work today, birthday cake from one colleague and then a meeting with doughnuts. I don't get a lunchbreak and manage about 80% of the time to live off cake and biscuits as helpfully supplied by colleagues in one form or another.

CMOTDibbler · 07/03/2009 14:03

Catita - I hope DH was pleased - I'm delighted for you, and hope it's all going to go well.

DCMB - sounds like an excellent meal plan to me !

mistlethrush · 07/03/2009 14:27

Catita - how did the disclosure go? Is dh pleased? I hope you are OK.

Hi KA - where've you been? How's it going, etc etc...

Ds has decided that he doesn't want a nap today - so we'll have a melt down later on. We'll just have to make sure he has an early night as he really needs a bit more sleep at the weekend to be able to cope without a nap during the week....

Jacksmama · 07/03/2009 16:18

CONGRATULATIONS Catita!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a member in good standing of the North American/ Multinational Doula Brigade, I will happily be at your service when the big day comes!!

Wow. I am so pleased for you. And what did Senor Catita say?????

Catitainahatita · 07/03/2009 16:49

Morning/afternoon all,

Well, my melodrama lastnight was knocked on the head by DH not arriving from his night out until 3am, totally wasted. Apparently he and his running mates decided to go out dancing after their dinner and, I quote "since I had noone to dance with I just drank!"
He then proceded to puke all over the floor

DH is not a big drinker and I have only seen him like that once before, I hasten to add. Appparently he had a good time...

Anyway this morning whe he finally got up I mentioned the news. I think he is secretly quite pleased with the idea but is worried about the same things as me: uncontrolled blood sugar, high possiblilty of M/C etc. He will probably transform into super protective bloke in the next couple of weeks, but at minute he is too hungover to leap into action.

One observation though, I couldn't help thinking as as mopped sick at 4am that I much preferred baby sick to adult sick. There's less off it for a start. Plus you tend to know what they have just eaten to there are no nasty shocks. Goodness knows what DH had for his tea last night, but it made his vomit extra nasty. So, then (as you do at this stage in pregnancy) I found myself being sick too

At least I used to loo though

Catitainahatita · 07/03/2009 16:56

Thanks Jacksmama, I shall let you know my requirements nearer the time

I thought you'd all be happy really, I just didn´t want to be insensitive to your feelings too. I've always wanted a few children and when the Dr told me that this was unlikely to happen, I was very upset.

In the meantime I shall do all I can to make sure things go well and keep all my fingers and toes crossed.

Jacksmama · 07/03/2009 16:58

Sit down woman!

Catitainahatita · 07/03/2009 17:09

DS is napping with a hungover DH. The house is in calm.

I think I might just curl up on this here armchair and have a snooze myself.

Catitainahatita · 07/03/2009 17:15

Ooh, but before I drop into a doze.

CMOT:how was the big night last night?

Jacksmama · 07/03/2009 17:59
mistlethrush · 07/03/2009 19:07

Hands over some cafinated tea - definitely fine in the tearoom. I never gave up tea last time - I couldn't bear coffee, but I drink really weak tea anyway - I actually took part in a caffiene trial when I was pregnant - I think they were looking at birth weight.

Ds has had the predicted melt-down - he had a very good afternoon - we went to see part of the dress rehearsal for 'Princess Aida' (ds was most of the time we spent there, apart from the repeated 'I'm hungry's) then had to go and buy another shirt for dh, nip in to get ds's 'free' WBD book. So, we got back here, got together a supper quickly for ds - who then toys with it, and does silly things - for which he is told off several times before having his supper removed and being sent up to get ready for bed with a slice of plain bread - which he then tipped water on, was told that if he did it again it would be taken away and he would be going to bed with no more food - you guessed it... Sometimes he acts his age, alhough much of the time people think he is 12 - 18 months older than he actually is.

Catita - I hope dh is going to make things up... does he know yet?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/03/2009 19:22

Phew! yet again I am racing to keep up with you all.

Catita I am delighted for you and would hate to think that you might feel uncomfortable mentioning your pregnancy. Several of us here have miracle babies and I think we can appreciate the wondrous nature of it. Fingers and all other extremities crossed for you. How does Mexican antenatal care work? Will you get lots of extra attention?

Kickassangel - wonderful to see you again. How have you been?

Cmot - Fantastic advice from your DH. I will ring on Monday and kick ass describe the reasons for my less than total satisfaction with their efficiency. (And I googled your FCUK dress. I likey very much).

It's Saturday night. Shall those of us who aren't out painting the town red have a little party? With a music, perhaps?

Bolly, olives, cheese straws and twiglets are now being served.
