Hi, voluptuousverity (love your name, by the way)!

I've never heard of any organisation for one-child families. Nor have I heard of any MN get-together for onlies and their parents, but I'm still a newbie here. Do you think there would be enough interest to make one viable?

Do come and have a glass of champagne with us in the tea room ....

I live in Surrey too (though unfortunately am moving to Oxfordshire very soon) and i have thought about this in the past. I think it would be really good to have a group of parents of only children. We could arrange meet-ups and regular events. I have fantasies of it being a bit like a loose extended family though I may be being a bit optimistic there.

I haven't found any groups yet but I'd be really interested if there was one.

I spend a lot of time trying to organise get togethers with other parents and their children to provide child company for ds and it is definitely true that my RL friends with one child are much more likely to say yes to invites than my friends with more than 1.

I particularly find holidays difficult. Because ds has no cousins his age he has spent 2 weeks exclusively in the company of adults except for two short afternoons where we met some friends (both with only childen) for a joint trip out.

In this village the mums of one have a pub quiz team :-) and a regular friday evening slot at the pub. Tis fab.
Not quite what you were looking for tho OP, we are not in Surrey, sorry.

Am I alone in being able to easily think of a dozen friends with only one child each?

Hello

We live in Surrey and also have one child aged 6. Would love to join an organisation for families with only one child if there is such a thing.

Allison64 · 24/12/2010 19:41

We would also like to join such an organisation. We have a nearly 8 year old son and are in south east London but willing to travel.

Have you tried contacting Gingerbread? Think it's free.. or post on your local Netmums board, they're very into organising local get-togethers for all kinds of family groups.

Pingoo · 09/02/2011 21:28

Has anyone found any get togethers for onlys? THere is nothing on my local board. Almost all our friends and all family have more than one child. I would like DD to see she is not alone in being an only child which she believes she is at the moment!

ooh! yes. love this idea. and how about we would all go to the same campsite as well? I have been looking for holidays for DS (6) with other only children, but haven't found any.
