Would anyone like a cup of tea and a muffin?

I'm tired and in need of refreshment.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

Festive reindeers with wonky hats, like it [hic]

daisy99divine · 06/11/2008 23:39

Double vision is catching

Jacksmama · 07/11/2008 00:23

Errrmmm... I've been wanting to ask, but what's a fascinator?
(Sorry, being from the colonies I don't always know the lingo.)
Did you leave me some champagne? I stuck my head in that other thread you were talking about and got a headache from the acrimony.

BoccaDellaVerita · 07/11/2008 00:29

There's another thread here about fascinators, complete with a link to a very fetching example.

Do you not have fascinators in Canada? I have very mixed feelings about them - I prefer a hat with a brim, myself - but the consensus was that they were de rigueur as headgear for the Mother-of-One-About-Town.

BoccaDellaVerita · 07/11/2008 00:30

here

daisy99divine · 07/11/2008 01:21

I have a fantastic fascinator that is all big feathers. It is one of my favourite things. I also love a good hat and a brim

But I am not keen on budgerigars.

Hope that helps Jacksmama!!

Jacksmama · 07/11/2008 01:57

OMG!!!! PMSL!!!!!!
Thanks, that clears that up - you all don't want to know what I was thinking they were...
What are you all doing up so late?? I just finished work but it's the middle of the night for you all!! Is the cafe closed but you've been into the champagne and dancing on tables? I knew it!!
Hi Daisy!!!
I miss teafortwo. She's probably enjoying the sun on Sidi. At least I assume so since Tunisia doesn't strike me as a place where it rains much... unlike here.
I shall now splash my way home... and hope to fall into a large glass of wine. Lottien on the "mystery of shoes and trousers" thread posted me back my bottle of Sauvignon Blanc! If there is any left I will bring it when I pop into the cafe tomorrow.
Please ask Bucharest to sleep off her hangover before she shows up again.

Jacksmama · 07/11/2008 01:58

And when Bucharest shows up again ask her what her favourite brand of gin is. My DH loves gin & tonics and I'd like to buy him a really good bottle for Christmas.
Thanks all, ny ny!!

cmotdibbler · 07/11/2008 09:01

My favoured gin is Bombay Sapphire - and as it has herbs in it, its obviously good for you. At least this is my friends theory, but she claims that a pint of Pimms counts as your five fruit and veg for the day.

flummery · 07/11/2008 11:17

My favourite vodka has a punnet of raspberries steeping ready and ice-cold for consumption over the weekend, but it's raining and set to stay that way. Might have to be disgusting and drink hot chocolate with a large slug of Baileys instead .

Off to bake a lemon cake to share tomorrow.

Bucharest · 07/11/2008 12:28

The Spanish one that pretends to be Gordon's- Gin Larios......ahhhhh, happy happy memories.......

Bucharest · 07/11/2008 12:30

Wish to add in my defense I was at dreadful parents evening yesterday so whoever's feet that is under the sofa....s'not me.

daisy99divine · 07/11/2008 16:21

when it comes to gin there is no contest, it has to be Gordon's...

And, if it wasn't you Bucharest, who was it? Has anyone seen Pag lately

Jacksmama · 07/11/2008 16:43

Good morning all!! Hope you slept well! Let me just put my (delicately spiked with Frangelico) latte down and shift my grip on the baby.

I like Bombay Sapphire as well, but believe Hendrick's is healthier as it contains rosewater and cucumber essence... vegetables and flowers!!!
As for the feet under the sofa, has anyone checked to see if the body they belng to is still living? Just wondering because that other thread seemed to turn somewhat murderous yesterday... perhaps someone snapped and tried to dump the evidence in the cafe?
Hi Daisy!!!!!

pagwatch · 07/11/2008 16:47

"It's my birthday. Double Gins and Bolly all round on me".

cmotdibbler · 07/11/2008 16:53

No more vomiting in the CMOT house yay ! So I was able to work, rather than doing playdoh and baking. Will be all bunting cupcake tomorrow as DH needs to watch rugby. More recipes please though - are you GF ? I envy buyers of Kinninick greatly - must arrange another canada trip soon.

Will tell friend of the added health benefits of Hendricks. She'll be v impressed - is my child free friend who spends all her disposable income on gadgets, shoes, handbags and booze. Not me at all...

Happy Birthday Pag. Heres a little gateau I just happened to have around in case.. Actually, scrub that - here, have some of my famed fruit cake which contains a pint of Southern Comfort..

pagwatch · 07/11/2008 16:54

mmmm.... southern comfort....

Jacksmama · 07/11/2008 17:01

Southern Comfort reminds me too much of part of my misspent youth... have you got any creme de cacao handy?
cmot GF means gluten-free in this case? No, I'm not but have two girlfriends who are naturopathic physicians (ueber-healthy individuals both) and have swiped recipes from them.
On the subject of the acronym GF though, I remember Bucharest on another thread (my co-sleeping question, I believe) saying she was not a "GF mum". ???? What means this ???? Also another poster referred to a questionable child-rearing authority named Gina? (Remember I'm a colonial so not familiar... besides which am devotee of Dr Sears...)

daisy99divine · 07/11/2008 17:24

NNNNOoooooooooooo to southern comfort, I like this cafe! But it does confirm my suspicions that Pag was under the sofa

Happy Birthday by the way

We need some MadBad order in here

Muffins anyone? I have a hankering, and tea. Nothing fancy, proper builders, in a mug

my DS is out playing with his Best Friend who he loves SO MUCH he dances when he sees him

Jacksmama · 07/11/2008 17:34

May I have another latte please? Easy on the Frangelico this time though or DS and I will both be drunk and joining Pag or whomever under the sofa. Although if he has a little nip it might keep him a bit more mellow today - DH was done in by the time I came home from work yesterday as DS had a cranky stroppy day... DH said he was off to work but I suspect he's actually popped round the pub instead to have a brew or ten to relax a little...

Soprana · 07/11/2008 18:19

Do you only have healthy snacks or can I have an almond croissant, please? And a double-shot capuccino?
Please?

Jacksmama · 07/11/2008 18:25

You can have anything you want here!! However, the cafe currently appears to be self-serve.
Would you mind getting me another latte while you're up?

cmotdibbler · 07/11/2008 19:37

I'm back, after a lovely pukey evening. But DS has learnt to puke into a receptacle now, so that's a bonus. I should have just forced him to keep breastfeeding past 2 y'know, his past chest infections were never this bad.

One latte with Frangelico coming up. DH has just hunted and gathered a chinese takeaway for us..

Soprana · 07/11/2008 22:24

One latte coming up!

BoccaDellaVerita · 07/11/2008 23:02

Hello ladies. Nice to see so many of you here. MadBad has told me so much about you. And many happy returns to Pagwatch!

It does seem that things have become a little (shall we say) uninhibited since MadBad was incapacitated. We do normally have healthy snacks, soprana - in the sense that we use organic and locally sourced ingredients in our cakes and the raisins and currants constitute at least one of our 5 a day - but it seems that the entire stock of muffins, croissants and flapjacks has been eaten. Yet we only have 37p and 10 Canadian cents in the honesty box. And the last of the Earl Grey teabags has been dumped in the aspidistra's pot. That poor plant hasn't a chance. I Am Very Disappointed In You All, But I Shall Not Dwell On It.

How interesting that so many of you are connoisseurs of gin. This is the 150th anniversary of the gin and tonic. I read it in the newspaper and so it must be true.

We should remember, however, that this is a tea room. Some people have been putting it about that MadBad was running a speakeasy here. You are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverages for consuming in moderation, but the neighbours are beginning to mutter about some of the late night noise so may I ask you to act with a little decorum, especially when leaving?

Gosh! I can still hear snoring from beneath the sofa. It isn't Bucharest and it can't be pagwatch. As keen readers of Agatha Christie will quickly have noticed, the supine body was there before pagwatch made her grand entrance. So who can it be?
