First time poster and long time lurker.
My wife and I (also female) are both only children and we have 4 year old daughter, we tried to have a second but couldn’t conceive so we are coming to terms that our daughter will be an only.
Neither of us have any cousins or aunts/uncles and we both have elderly parents. I’m becoming increasing aware of how alone we really are in terms of family network and I wondered if there were any support groups nationally that had local networks I could reach out to?
We don’t have many close friends with children and being a gay couple a lot of our friends are gay couples who are childless by choice.
I have made some mum friends via my daughters nursery but there are no other only children and I’d really like to meet some other only children families if possible.
I had a terribly lonely childhood which I associate with being an only, deep down I know the loneliness was due to my parents being a bit crap but when I look at my daughter playing on her own the guilt hits me hard.
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
