Sunburned 3 month old

I've seriously fucked up in the mum department today. And accidentally sun burned my 3 months old face. He had sun cream on and a hat I took the hat off for a few minutes as he never gets out and I guess we were out longer than planned and his cheeks and nose are red I feel horrendous can't stop crying and the guilt is eating me alive. Top it off he's extra grumpy tonight and I think it's all my fault. Such an idiot

It happens to most parents at one point or another. Keep an eye on him, make sure he has plenty fluids and it'll be gone in a day or so.

Also, check that it isn't an old bottle of sun cream, I've personally got burned using last years leftover cream.

Make sure in the future he isn't in the sun - use a shade - babies that age shouldn't be in the sun at all.

Don't beat yourself up OP, as PP said it catches a lot of us parents out at some point. If you're BF then put some milk on it to help soothe it, and try not to worry too much.

He's 3 months old...

@Cakeandcoffee93 maybe skip the ice lolly as he is 3 months old 🤣

BQ91 · 09/05/2023 21:07

Don’t beat yourself up OP, you’re only human and we all make mistakes, the amount of times I’ve accidentally hurt my child I can’t count, you do your best and learn from it.

Wallabyone · 09/05/2023 21:09

An ice lolly 🙈
Don't beat yourself up OP, we've all done things that aren't award-winning parenting...keep up the fluids up and and keep an eye out for temp etc xx

I burnt my six month old's legs between my house and the supermarket, I was walking there to buy sunblock! I thought the sunshade covered her legs but it didn't. I felt awful, and then always tied a muslin or a.light scarf between the bar and the footrest.

You can't turn back time but use this as a lesson so it doesn't happen again. But loads of us have done it.

fatisnotafeeling · 09/05/2023 21:17

This happened to my little one at about the same age, it doesn't take long.

However you shouldn't use sun cream on babies under 6 months.
