I'm 44 with a 15 month old after 7 years ttc. A friend had her first at 45 and is now pregnant with her second at 48 (donor eggs).

Are you physically fit and in good health and weight?
Same for your partner?
Have you been supplementing your diet with a good quality vitamin complex? I think if the conditions are right, it’s worth attempting.
I fell pregnant very easily age 42 and had a healthy, easy pregnancy and labour. I have paused work to enjoy this baby as our finances make this easy to do, and honestly it is hard work with a toddler all day but I am loving it.

You’ll hear lots of people say, it is unfair to have teenagers when you are 60+ and it is unfair to your children who will have ancient parents when they are just starting a family themselves, but few families are perfect. I know absolutely loads of mums who gave birth between age 40 and 45 and they are all fantastic and still full of life and energy. I think it is an attitude thing. If your age is going to play on your mind , don’t do it.

Same as @CustardyCreams said - if conditions are right, then go for it.

There will probably be lots of people along in a minute to wring their hands about you daring to have a baby over 35, and your certain death from decrepitude at 50 traumatising your child for life. Ignore them.

I got pregnant with my DS around my 44th birthday. As long as your are healthy and not drinking (much) then it may be possible.

Booboosweet · 02/08/2021 18:39

Definitely try but at 43 I think you have to be realistic that the chance of it happening naturally is fairly low.

girlmom21 · 02/08/2021 18:46

I don't think 44 is too old. Go for it.

AnotherDay579 · 02/08/2021 22:14

The chances of you having a second are much higher than if you were trying for your first.

Thanks for all your replies.

I'm pretty healthy - I don't have any health conditions. I did have gestational diabetes during my pregnancy with my first - but it was so just within the limits - but I of course had to watch my diet - which want terrible anyway!!! Bub was born a healthy weight with no issues.

I breastfed my DD until she was 2.5 years so alcohol isn't an issue...rarely have. A glass of wine now on a Friday night now!!

My DH is so on the fence about this - he said the other morning to my daughter "would you like a sister?" I said to him later "if you want another - you need to hurry up" Smile

I'm just so unsure - I think I've seen other posts where older women have asked the same thing and have been told its very risky etc.

which wasn't terrible etc 🤪

I didn't have a terrible diet to start with! I pretty healthy and walk every day - starting jogging again recently...
