My baby's eye colour

RaeRaeMama · 21/05/2021 19:26

My baby is 14 weeks and has a pair of striking dark blue eyes, they don't have any brown or green in them just blue.

I wondered if anyone on here had a baby with blue eyes that changed colour?

I only wonder because I've been told by some people they won't settle fully until they're one but then other people have told me they're sure their children were born with green/brown eyes rather than blue?

Can't imagine her having different eyes now

I always understood most babies were born with blue eyes that changed at they got older. My daughter had really blue eyes that changed to grey.

SpamIAm · 21/05/2021 19:31

I thought all babies had dark blue eyes? The colour doesn't develop until they're exposed to light or something. So yes I know loads of kids who had blue eyes and then changed.

Age 3 is usually when eye colour settles, both of mine were born with blue eyes and both still have blue eyes (I have blue eyes though and dad has green so was kind of expected) Smile

Same as above, quite normal to be blue at birth I believe. My sons were blue then went quite brown to now settling on a brown/green color.

sylbunny · 21/05/2021 19:36

Both mine have been born with pure dark blue sapphire coloured eyes. My daughter is 3 now and they are dark blue round the rim with blue green in the centre like me. They are much lighter than when she was a baby.

Most caucasian babies are born with blue eyes which may change. My daughters are half caucasian were born with blue eyes (now brown and hazel), their asian cousins were all born with brown eyes.

DS had dark blue eyes as a baby, but they turned dark brown by about a year old. DD had blue eyes from birth and they were always a paler blue. They stayed blue.

AhaShakeHeartbreak12 · 21/05/2021 19:38

My baby had dark blue eyes that went a hazel green colour by 6 months, now they're very brown

JollyAndBright · 21/05/2021 19:43

Most babies are born with blue eyes and they change as the grow.

It’s technical but blue eyes are actually a lack of melanin, which develops over time and from exposure to UV light, similar to skin tone, most babies eyes change colour around three to six months.

My first DC had steel grey eyes. My second deep blue. Both changed to brown within 3 months.

Hufflepuffsunite · 21/05/2021 19:49

Both my dc had almost navy blue eyes at birth. They are still blue eyed but a much lighter blue.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 21/05/2021 19:49

My son had deep blue eyes at birth, they've turned to a grey/green now, at just 2, I expect they will go brown as we don't have any green eyed people in our family.

Retrievemysanity · 21/05/2021 19:51

I was born with blue eyes that changed to green when I was in primary school. DH and I both have green eyes but our DDs were born with blue and so far still got them (13 and 10).

RevolvingPivot · 21/05/2021 19:52

Myself husband and daughters all had blue eyes at birth and still do

Freehugs · 21/05/2021 20:05

My dd was born with blue eyes, assumed she would have grey eyes like myself and older ds. But nope they gradually changed to hazel brown between the age of 1 and 2.

honeybuns007 · 21/05/2021 20:06

Dark blue eyes are standard for Caucasian babies. You will have to wait and see what they end up!

MissingTheMoonlight · 21/05/2021 20:10

Those saying all or most babies have blue eyes when born, this is only true for Caucasians. My son is mixed race and was born with very dark brown eyes which lightened (to a lighter brown) at about 8 months.

Notashandyta · 21/05/2021 20:14

One of ours (boy) started dark blue, changed to light blue and are now a very dark green at 6! Second one (girl) was born with light blue eyes, are now stl light blue tinged with light green in places. Our third (girl) was born with brown eyes and they've stayed that way ever since. So all different colours for ours!
I have very blue eyes and my husband very brown eyes

CorianderBee · 21/05/2021 20:15

I had bright blue eyes until I was 2. They're now a grey-green

RubertRoo · 21/05/2021 20:17

I had very blue eyes until I was about 10 years old. At 10 they changed to green quite gradually and by 11 were fully green and stayed green ever since!

cocoloco987 · 21/05/2021 20:51

Dd1 had striking blue eyes that didn't change til she was nearly 3. Dd2's were never actually blue and turned dark brown very quickly. Like anything else with dc there aren't many hard and fast rules

Cotswoldmama · 21/05/2021 21:07

My oldest had blue eyes until 10 months old, then they went green and by 2 they were a medium hazel brown colour and they've stayed that way. My youngest had very dark eyes straight away really dark brown with a blueish tinge, they turned dark brown very quickly. My husband has very dark black/ brown eyes and I have green eyes. I think all babies are different but I think if they're going to be very dark they'll change quicker.
