So on the first day back at reception on 8th March, my 5 year old wanted to wear her school summer dress and I didn't see an issue in this. As we walked to school this day with her friend and mum I was told by this mum that the children are not allowed to wear summer dresses before Easter half term yet she allowed her daughter to do the same thing a week later, and kind of made me feel a bit pants! Is this an actual rule as I've never had the school say anything about it before or is just a mum being I don't know funny?

Each school varies in policy. Dc school was either summer/winter until October half term, summer only after Easter.

Did she maybe mean Spring half term? Half term usually refers to the midterm 1 week holiday and 8th march was after that which would explain why her own dd wore the dress. Or did she mean after the Eaater holiday? In which case her own dd wore it before then anyway so I wouldnt worry.

If you can find the uniform policy or list on the website it would probably say there if there was a rule about it.

You can check your uniform policy but at my children's school I even see girls wearing summer dresses the first week back in September!

firedog · 25/03/2021 23:38

Our school don't care but some say only after Easter

Checking your uniform policy is a better option imo, every school is different

My school, so going back to the late 70s was summer uniform after Eater and after the summer holiday until the September holiday (East Lancs used to have holidays similar to Scotland).

This year, surely it's anything that can be interpreted as school uniform is fine?

Russell19 · 26/03/2021 07:03

My school is summer dresses in summer term only.

BendingSpoons · 26/03/2021 07:05

DD has been wearing her summer dress all year, as have some others. I think it's a bit odd, especially wearing it with tights, but the school haven't complained.

We have this rule but not everyone follows it.
