Toys for newborns

Hi ladies , this is my first baby but do newborns even need toys? If so which ones would be good my baby a premmie 3 months now but his due date was on Sunday. What should I purchase ?

I also wanted to ask when do you start tummy time with newborns? Before someone says ask your HV I will I just like to ask you ladies too

I didn’t have toys for dd until she was a bit more aware - and then it was stuff like glitter and water in a ziplock sandwich bag for her to poke, a crisp packet to scrunch, and soft toys that vibrated.

Black and white baby books are good for them to have a squint at.

I used to do tummy time with Dd laying on me. She quite enjoyed it that way.

Newborns don’t need toys and don’t really have the capacity to interact with them. My son is now 2 months old and starting to pick up on some things - he likes looking at black and white graphics cards for example, but he’s still not grasping things etc.

Tummy time can start pretty much straight away, but just for a minute or so at a time on the floor. I agree that tummy time lying on your chest is great for newborns, and they’re likely to enjoy it more that way.

@Vtech when's it best to buy a playmatt or any kind of toys
