Worried about my son

Hello,
My son is 18 months old and I can concerned about his speech (or lack off) i took him to the health visitor before xmas and asked for her to review him as I didnt think he could hear. She sent us for a hearing test and it shown that everything was clear but they said he could have had glue ear and its unstuck itself and cleared (about 2 weeks before hus appointment his ear was covered in yellow so im.assuming this was causing the problem.)

He has not said one word he makes noises and sometimes you think that he maybe said hiya or mam but it never happens again for a while.

He isnt completely mute he does make the following...mmmmmmm.....hmmmmm..ahah ah ah etc.
Am i over reacting or should I be worried? I have a review with the Hv in May.

By the age of 2, my ds said dada. He had no other words but did babble. We took him for a hearing test which was clear. We took him to SLT who assessed him as needing therapy but said he was too young for it.

SLT reviewed him again at 2.5 and said he was fine. He will be 3 next week and, while his pronunciation isn't perfect,I have no worries about his speech. He has come on so much in the last 6 months; not just in speech but in stuff like jigsaws, Lego etc.

Does your ds understand some of what you are saying to him? At 18 months, my ds knew his name and could point to family members, favourite foods, get his favourite toys, etc. By 2,he could follow simple instructions.

I wouldn't panic, 18 months is young. I noticed the biggest leap between 2.5 and 3. Before that, he was a baby. He's a little boy now.

My nephew was always very quiet...no noise or speach. At 2 the same HV said he needed to see a soeech therapist. At 2.5 started a few words now he's nearly 3 and chats asks questions understands everything. Dont worry Smile

@hannahc05 I had glue ear as a child my mum said I didn't speak until I was 2.5 when I got grommets and the yellow stuff is normal in glue ear and can come back.
