Warning: MAJOR rant alert. It includes swearing (which is a sign it's bad because I don't swear -- just one of those things, I don't do it unless I'm hacked off).
FUCKING DOG OWNERS! (Present company excluded.)
SmallBoy, in last two weeks or so, has been showing a real interest in dogs and hasn't been afraid of them the way he has been (after being surrounded by a pack when he was a young ToddlerScout he was quite afraid). He's even wanted to pet dogs, so as we encounter them we stop, talk to the owner, ask if we can pet their dog and go from there. It's been a real breakthrough. On Monday he spent half-an-hour playing fetch with my friend's dog and thought it was the greatest game ever.
SB & I went out for an explore of the "wildlife area" across from us after lunch today. It's not used much, I know, and I tend to only see teenagers and dog owners taking their dogs up there though the area is for everyone and there are a lot of paths, interesting plants & trees, bugs and small wildlife to study/investigate (I can see one of the entrances to it from my front windows). A perfect place for a 3.7 year old boy to play in. We were minding our business and from the opposite direction came bounding up a big German Shepherd. Now, SmallBoy is about 40-41 inches tall and this German Shepherd was easily as tall as SB, if not bigger. G.S. did not stop when called but came running at SB. SB, understandingly, came running for me. I grabbed him to my legs, put both arms across him and kept saying "It's okay, stand still and close your eyes. Stand still, I'm holding you." This fucking dog would NOT go back to it's owner when called, kept licking SB his hair is covered in fucking dog spit and jumping up on SB and on me. I got scratched not badly and I didn't realize until a few minutes later but where I got scratched was at SmallBoy's eye level. It could have been SmallBoy's eye! Fucking bastard dog! I kept trying to keep myself between SB and the dog and was trying to turn SB so his face was in my leg but, in his panic, he was trying to keep an eye on the dog to get away. The owner had to physically pull this dog off of us and when trying to get the lead back on the dog broke free at least once and kept straining against the owner and then the chain, trying to get to SB.
The owner apologized and said "he's a big softy. Overexcited. I didn't expect you to be here." I should have retorted to keep his fucking dog under control, that wildlife area is for everyone we encountered a middle-aged couple walking earlier in our explore but was in shock and just said "We're out having an explore."
SmallBoy said "There's our house and the path out. Let's get out of here and get safe. I want to be safe."
I'm FUCKING LIVID!
All of our hard work with dogs just destroyed. And now SB probably won't want to go into the wonderful wildlife area to play/explore because he'll be afraid of fucking uncontrollable dogs, too.
I'm so pissed off I could cry.
