When and if to have DC no. 2?

I'm having a dilemma which I hope mn can help me with...

I have a DD that I adore and who'll be 2 in march. I'd love to have another child but don't know when the right time will be? I've just gone back to university to do an MA in social work.

So I think I should wait until I finish the Masters, which will be September 2014. However, by then I'll be 37! And also I'm thinking should I not be in a social work job before trying for a another baby? As i may not get pregnant straight away and I should try and get a job sooner rather than later, in the current economic climate. Or should I try and plan to have a baby as im finishingy course?

Anybody in a similar position? Any advice? X

Fertility declines steeply after 35, so I suppose the question is if you waited until you were in a new job then found for some reason you couldn't get pregnant would you be devastated? If you wait until you have finished your masters can you afford another baby without a job sorted out? If so, you can always start trying before you finish your masters, with a view to graduating then you can start job hunting once you are ready to work again after having DC2, and if it doesn't happen quickly you can start job hunting as soon as you complete the masters.

For me, I fell pregnant without trying with DS1 who is nearly 2, have been trying unsuccessfully for 6 months for DC2 now despite not even being 30 yet, and am currently wishing we had started sooner rather than waiting for the "right time" and delaying everything!

I think you're right. I'm thinking that, if I can, try timing DC 2 with when I graduate. I can put off looking for a job but I don't think i can stop my biology!

Sometimes I don't even think there is a right time to have a child!
