Episode 33 - The Orangery - Tea anyone?

mistlethrush · 08/05/2012 08:58

The tearoom has traveled back to the Orangery for another visit. There are bluebells in the nearby woods, and Mellors has Earl Grey and Lady Grey ready for some excursions. Mellors has, indeed, been overwintering away from Canada for some reason - I think he's been helping Maud out in the garden. There are tulips out in urns outside, and there are a few tables out in the sunny courtyard for use between showers.

Whether you have one child or several, pull up a chair and share a Brew or a Wine. The only rules remains no fisticuffs.

Oooh I hope you all have fun on your olympic days out. Our summer holidays always felts as though they had started with the marmalade sandwiches waiting in the queue for the ferry at Dover... and we've got a really good example of mc eating similar aged 18 months....

Seems like everyone I know (in RL or OL) has Olympic Tickets of some sort. I'm a bit Envy.

Some 4 year old (I know he was four because he told me as he was playing with Toddler & I at the park) told me that Steam Trains are useless and there's no point to them. Shock Tis a very good thing Toddler didn't hear! Steam trains are his favorite! He loves any trains, really, especially if he gets a ride, but steam engines rule his little world. There's a line in one of his books that says "Steam trains are magic! Did you know?" and I catch him using it regularly when he's playing with his trains.

I've never known a toddler/pre-schooler (boy) to NOT like trains/steam trains.

Donki · 26/07/2012 08:48

Scout
It clearly can't have been a real boy (or indeed, child - I don't know any girls who don't like steam trains) - perhaps an alien in disguise?

Scout19075 · 26/07/2012 08:59

Perhaps he WAS an alien in disguise. He told me that he doesn't mind electric trains but only because they get him to London fast.

beanandspud · 26/07/2012 20:13

Scout - Small Bean would have put him right - he is a "train expert" apparently!

Scout19075 · 26/07/2012 20:43

Toddler doesn't have quite enough vocabulary to correct this kid but give him another couple of months and he probably could.

bean, your package arrived today. Thank you! We haven't opened it yet -- we got in "late" and it was straight to dinner, bedtime, etc. I didn't want to open it with Toddler around since it's addressed to him.

Thank you for a great afternoon in the sun! Toddler said he had a good day and liked playing with his new big girl friend (he struggles with Milk's name).

We've been to a park or playground or duck pond (or combination of all three three) every day this week. Question is do we do it again tomorrow or have a chilled day at home.

Scout19075 · 26/07/2012 20:43

bean, that should be: Didn't want to open it without Toddler.

oxeye · 27/07/2012 00:54

hello my dears! o getting very olympic tastic here!
saw the torch today and went to the Village on Tuesday to get our tickets. It's all amazing, London has totally transformed!
have fun CMOT, we're going next week

wave to all others, all sounds like jolly ness. I only have three more weeks of work!

beanandspud · 27/07/2012 06:14

Glad it arrived Scout, hope TS liked it!

Just heading down to London, although it's for work can't help feeling a little bit Olympic-ey! Sadly not going to any events but I will be an armchair expert instead Grin

Jacksmania · 27/07/2012 07:12

Oh, the Olympics are so fab. We loved it when they were here in 2010. Had so much fun. Enjoy, whoever's going.

So, what about that cake someone mentioned ^ upthread?

I can offer berry custard pie in return. Took JB to a berry farm nearby, where we picked a full bucket of blueberries, and then bought glazed berry doughnuts, raspberry turnovers, and a mahooooooooosive pie filled with custard (tastes like thick vanilla pudding to me) and heaped with strawberries, raspberries and the biggest blueberries I've ever seen, and gobs of berry glaze on top. Mmmmmm... it weighs about 5 pounds :o

mistlethrush · 27/07/2012 07:40

I'm going to be picking mc up from Suffolk next weekend - probably not sensible to arrange anything unfortunately as will be staying over with MiL in a cottage she's in to avoid living in London whilst its all happening.... Might try to get a phone number from someone just in case we do our own thing on the Friday, mc having tired her out the rest of the week.

bean, Toddler doesn't know Chuggington but he keeps "reading" the books saying "Diesel train story!" and making up a story about diesel trains. And he's just spent the last 30 minutes playing with the wind-up train and book, putting some of his people things along it to make more shops and using his Brio accessories (like signals) with it. Awww.

I would say they're hits.

Off to read as he's just worked out the books are stories he doesn't know.

Torch
LaBelleDameSansPatience · 27/07/2012 21:05

Was wondering when Milk and Tea would be in England .... Wriggle is still slowly working on her book for Milk. Slowly because the school technician has inadvertantly removed my printer and we were relying on it for our summer holiday project. And of course it is now holidays and we don't go into school - although I will have to go in frequently to work in the holidays, technicians don't.

Living in an Olympic area here too; wish I was more interested ... really am just fed up at the advice to 'avoid travelling or plan journeys' for the next few weeks due to Olympic traffic. Why??? I live here.

Scout19075 · 29/07/2012 09:21

Toddler's Medal Count Tracker is made & up.

As of end of sports day Saturday, 28 July 2012:

Team GB: 0 medals
Team USA: 5 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze)

Team GB need to get a wiggle on.

Toddler was enthralled by the swimming yesterday. And at the start of the cycling road race kept saying "Torch! Watch torch!" I think he remembers the motorcycles and cyclists that accompanied the torch through town.

I am, however, getting a bit Envy of all of my FB friends checking in from the various Olympic venues.

mistlethrush · 31/07/2012 23:18

I hope you enjoyed the eventing Donki - has anyone else seen anything live?

helloooo.

bac in the world of PC access, but only just as main P is buggered and I'm on ntbook, hich I dn;t like.

Yes- saw both cycling rd races ( nt Time trial) had good time both days.

Scout19075 · 03/08/2012 09:19

I'm still very tempted to get Paralympic swimming tickets for Toddler & I (if they're still available -- they were at last look). He's enthralled by the swimming races. And tickets are relatively cheap so even if he doesn't want to stay for the full 2-3 hours of racing he'll still get the atmosphere and it would be great to wander around for a few hours and I won't be cross for spending a stupid amount of money). Just trying to justify the stroller on a commuter train into London. MrScout says categorically "no stroller" because of the commuter train (as a commuter on said train I'd have to take in) but I say Toddler & I won't last a full day of him walking. The Toddler backpack carrier thing is not an option because it doesn't fit me properly and Toddler is just way too heavy for me to carry all day in an ill-fitting carrier.

UniS · 03/08/2012 20:45

scout- do it . stroller and all. but minimal stroller, don;t rely on it for baggage carrying and expect to fold it.

we did 2 days touristing in london this week and its been fine. we were getting up to town at 10am and it really wasn;t that busy.

mistlethrush · 05/08/2012 19:42

I have been a tiny bit tempted with going down with mini - but not quite enough I think.

better view on TV. and MT you are rather further away than scout, at least I assume it would take longer to get to london from your neck of the woods.

any one for a vodka tonic whilst watching the Mens 100m final? my moneys on a Jamaican, not sure which one tho.

DS and DH have put a web page together today, about our tourist wonderings in London, pm me if you would like a link.

mistlethrush · 06/08/2012 07:30

Yes, it is a fair trek... and MC has managed to hold a torch, and see the torch relay, so he's not completely missed everything...

beanandspud · 06/08/2012 22:00

Hello!

Back again finally, seem to get caught up in things and then find it's been ages since I was in the tearoom.

Scout - I would do it but be prepared to take a stroller. My father was there last week and said that there was a lot of walking. I'm a little bit sorry that I haven't seen any live events but I didn't get tickets for the things that I did want to see and I just don't love it enough to want to go all that way to watch weightlifting/handball/football 'just for the experience'.

We are approaching what feels like the end of an era - Small Bean only has a few days left at nursery (after nearly four years Sad) and then we have holidays and then school... He is very excited, probably a bit over-excited but we're trying to cut him a bit of slack at the moment.

I know it's 24 hours later but is that V&T still on offer Unis?

UniS · 06/08/2012 22:31

Of course it is, one V& T coming up. it has sideburns stuck on the glass in honor of one Mr Wiggins...

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 06/08/2012 22:35

Mistle, do you have any ideas for choir music for harvest/apple day?

Bean, I remember agonising this time last year when Wriggle was about to go to school; it's not as awful as it looks.

Wriggle is going to help make Olympic bouquets for the winners at our local Olympic venue (I think her input may be negligable).
