Episode 33 - The Orangery - Tea anyone?

The tearoom has traveled back to the Orangery for another visit. There are bluebells in the nearby woods, and Mellors has Earl Grey and Lady Grey ready for some excursions. Mellors has, indeed, been overwintering away from Canada for some reason - I think he's been helping Maud out in the garden. There are tulips out in urns outside, and there are a few tables out in the sunny courtyard for use between showers.

Whether you have one child or several, pull up a chair and share a Brew or a Wine. The only rules remains no fisticuffs.

Back from a somewhat damp week down in UniS's neck of the woods. Mc behaved pretty well so we've had a pretty good week despite the general lack of sun (until the day to get home). Not terribly helpfully, mc was violently ill on the Friday night at 1am and I ended up chucking dh out of bed into mc's so mc could be with me because he was in so much pain in waves - luckily he managed to keep the calpol down later and got to sleep (in the middle of the bed) but was still subdued the following morning. He's right as rain today though.

He really enjoyed Friday though - I hope Boy did too UniS

it must be that farm MT, boy was VVV sick after his visit there with school the previous week ! fine this time however. Boy Very taken by teh "springy heels" on those trainers! probadly willing his feet to grow to fit them.

We did get to the beach today - hurrah. North coast, small surf but fun with body boards. Mucho sun. A good day out.

I spent yesterday back in school... learning how to be a cycle ride group leader. fun, but not easy. took a few goes to work out how to do what I was meant to do at various junctions.

So, as we watch the sun go down after a Tea room day, can mellors get you a cool cocktail or a warming mug of something? MIne's a pina colada with an umbrella in it. Boy is reading aloud from " Tiara club" gee, its awful trite rubbish, how do you cope, mums of girls...

mistlethrush · 22/07/2012 19:08

MC was reading One Beastly Beast by Garth NIx today UniS - Boy would enjoy it I think.

Yes, we wonder whether he didn't wash his hands properly at some stage of the day... but all's well now, so not a big issue (wasn't good at 1am though)

Hope the trainers are good - mc certainly enjoyed wearing them until he grew out of them and got a good amount of wear out of them so sorry they're not in their prime, but hope boy can get a good amount of wear out of them anyway.

Does anyone have any spare magic sleeping dust they'd be willing to share?

UniS · 22/07/2012 20:28

Need to make a to do list for tomorrow I think.

Scout19075 · 22/07/2012 20:34

Cheers, UniS. I have a very overtired, non-sleeping Small Boy. He's been trying to drop his nap for the last day or so but will sleep in the car or the stroller. He's taken to waking in the night, too, and still getting up at silly o'clock. He's just exhausted tonight after a picnic and playground and a 20 minute nap in the car.

UniS · 22/07/2012 20:52

OH dear scout , here take your pick from the choc box of requirement.

Scout19075 · 22/07/2012 22:07

Sorry, that should have been last 7-10 days or so. He'll sleep in the car or stroller but won't stay in his bed at rest time (I tell him he doesn't need to sleep but needs to stay in bed and read to his friends). If he doesn't nap, even cat nap, he's a bear by the witching hour/s.

Thanks for the chocolates!

UniS · 22/07/2012 23:16

donno if its something you have tried but...
when boy was refusing naps I would set the kitchen timer for X minutes and he had to stay in his room quietly for X minutes. If he came out I re started the timer. some days he fell asleep and I would add time so he wasn't woken up after 10 mins. oddly Boy didn't like the idea of half an hour but was fine with 30 minutes. He would sometimes call and ask me how many minutes left, and I'd tell him ( roughly how many).

Still use this technique now if I need him to have quiet time in the day before a late night.

on a totally different tack, would 30 mins of an audio book or Ceebies radio be any good for his having a "rest" on the sofa.

mistlethrush · 22/07/2012 23:25

Sounds good - mc listens to the radio too - radio 3 or classic fm normally for going to sleep - sometimes jazz fm if he retunes it

And he likes audio books. Sometimes just some quiet time without having to 'do' anything is good - although mc has normally been SO energetic that he's normally needed the naps etc so its not been an issue.

Hihi!!! I am in Blighty and loving using the Mummy - child tandem our neighbours have lent us?. HAD to pop in to tell UniS!!!! Milk and I are whizzing left right and centre on that machine - FAB STUFF (still perfecting going round corners though)!!!

mistlethrush · 24/07/2012 10:47

Summertime and the living is eeeeeeaaasy!!!!!!! Grin

UniS · 24/07/2012 19:16

Happy bike riding milk.

Jacksmania · 24/07/2012 20:31

Back from camping. Whew. That was fun. Now everything smells like a camp fire :o

[too much laundry emoticon]

UniS · 24/07/2012 21:28

Good camping then?

I have the car tomorrow!! hurrah. no bike club in evening - boo hiss. debating what to do with boy in afternoon now our range is a bit bigger, might be trip to swimming pool in nearby small town- outdoor pool, not on bus route. I did look at the nearest bike races, but it would be 2 hours drive each way for a 20 min race, not sensible.

Jacksmania · 24/07/2012 23:24

Lovely camping. Weather not too cooperative, not hot enough to swim, cloudy with some sun... but otherwise blissful.

And Mellors doing my laundry is just a gorgeous sight. :o

beanandspud · 25/07/2012 16:15

Glad you had a good time JM, sounds like a lot of fun even if the weather wasn't great.

Brew and cake for anyone?

UniS · 25/07/2012 18:33

yummmm, cake.

UniS · 25/07/2012 18:34

Missed out on flapjack at the open air pool today ( they had just sold out). V nice afternoon in teh pool and sunshine tho. Rather crowded! Water was 22 degrees, its filtered river water, no chlorine which is nice.

Jacksmania · 25/07/2012 18:57

Did someone say cake?

Scout19075 · 25/07/2012 19:37

Cake?

Donki · 25/07/2012 20:11

Mmmm! Carrot cake?

CMOTDibbler · 25/07/2012 20:46

Mmmmmm cake Grin

In RL I am eating eton mess with strawberries, raspberries and nectarines. Tis yum !

We have finally sorted the logistics for our trip to the Olympics on Sunday, so now to sort out an all day picnic plan as we'll leave at 6am and get back at 1am.

UniS · 25/07/2012 21:01

blimey CMOT- that is a rather epic day out isn;t it. Good job bacon sandwiches taste good cold.

Our Olympic big day out will be Saturday, but as we only have a mile to walk its not nearly so epic as you. Will be taking a big Devon flag, look out for it on TV highlights of the mens cycling road race, near box hill village.

more cake, or would you prefer some savoury nibbles- wasabi peas?
