Episode 33 - The Orangery - Tea anyone?

mistlethrush · 08/05/2012 08:58

The tearoom has traveled back to the Orangery for another visit. There are bluebells in the nearby woods, and Mellors has Earl Grey and Lady Grey ready for some excursions. Mellors has, indeed, been overwintering away from Canada for some reason - I think he's been helping Maud out in the garden. There are tulips out in urns outside, and there are a few tables out in the sunny courtyard for use between showers.

Whether you have one child or several, pull up a chair and share a Brew or a Wine. The only rules remains no fisticuffs.

I keep posting and then you can't see it - so ... Let's hope this one gets to the tearoom...

Jm - big hugs and kisses xxx

Belle - I had my ears pierced at 5... Loved it at the time and do not feel damaged in anyway at all. Culturally in France it is seen as pretty chavtastic as in Blighty - but the Portugese and Arabs do it and I am sure if Milk wanted to I would let her...

Bean - Yoooooopie Yoooooopie at being home soon xxx

Unis - Fathers day is happening in our household - Milk has been very pro-active re parents days this year - after about 20 texts she has managed to bribe organise a picnic and swim with her and Beer to celebrate her Dad. She has made something at school to give....

Scout - chooooo chooooo Grin

teafortwo · 15/06/2012 08:45

Belle - my Mexican friend's girls had their ears pierced at birth - and I found their pierced ears very pretty... Gaaaah I wanna go out and buy some earrings for my holes now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 15/06/2012 16:27

Yes, when we were in Spain when Wriggle was two, many people took her for a boy as her ears weren't pierced. All girl babies seem to have it done.

Tea, could you open the video???? Wriggle talks about 'my friend who I haven't met' (but actually getting her to write in her book is tricky. We have taken lots and lots and lots of photos!)

FAthers day will happen, but probadly in a low key, Card and a bar of choc kinda way.

Card has been chosen and purchased ( a whole 40p , its a postcard, with a very nice picture. SO nice in fact that I sent the same card to my ma for mothers day and DH has given it to me for anniversary) and is half writen, but then DH came home so boy went off to hide it . I have no idea where ist hidden, hope boy can remember ,

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 16/06/2012 08:40

Prospect of a rainy Saturday afternoon here - Father's Day will have a higher profile as we decorate a suprise cake mainly to hide the fact that the cats ate the top in the night (and, oddly, a bowl of boiled broccoli I had forgotten to put in the fridge).

If the rain goes on long enough, we will have home-made card as well.

mistlethrush · 16/06/2012 08:49

Lol at the brocolli!

I'm out singing this evening - leaving for reh just after lunch... DH is SO looking forward to having the whole afternoon with mc on his own GrinWink

Gaaah - Belle- we still can't get film to open - we are going to a party tonight - I will see if I can get a teenager to open it for me - I find them v useful for techie thingies : ) xxx

UniS · 16/06/2012 19:16

you have broccoli munching cats??!!! teh mind boggles.

We got as far into rainy afternoon mode today as ; watching road runner cartoons and making fairy cakes.

open gardens tomorrow, we are open for the first time. The garden is not pristine, far to much wind and rain this week for that. But teh kettle will be on and biscuit tin filled, so hopefully a few people will drop by and visit.

Prehaps Mellors will agree to opening the Tea room gardens as well?

Scout19075 · 16/06/2012 19:33

The cats eat broccoli?! Shock

I have a mother-munching Toddler. Angry Hopefully my shout of pain and then stern "You DO NOT bite" was enough to prevent that again. I'm glad it was me and not another child but he left teeth marks and I have to be careful about blood. I am NOT impressed.

teafortwo · 17/06/2012 12:13

Yaaaaaaaay - we saw the film last night - it is fab, fab, fab.... Grin THANK YOU!!!!!! Xxxx

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/06/2012 18:13

Ouch, Scout!

Sorry I've not been here recently - this fell off my active threads.

I am the worst person to ask about ear piercing, as several times a week I have to put my hands over my ears and sing la la la as The Girl asks if she can have hers pierced. Our stock reply is "not until you're 13". It's bad enough having to deal with verrucas and nits. I can't do infected ears as well.

teafortwo · 17/06/2012 18:51

Sorry Scout - I was so busy being excited about the film that I forgot to rub lavender oil into your bite... : ( ouch!!!! Xxxx

Maud - great to see you

mistlethrush · 17/06/2012 19:13

We had big tears this morning as mc eventually told us that he was frustrated with play times at school - one lot playfootball and either he's 'not allowed' to play or when he does he never gets the ball (I suggested he should run a bit quicker) then he doesn't want to play 'anything' because there aren't sufficient rules and a third set of friends play tig but one of the group 'always cheats'. Hmmm.... Any suggestions?

This afternoon I took him swimming. I told him that we were going swimming, not for him to play around all the time in the shallow pool particularly as it was busy and I wouldn't be able to swim properly anyway. We had a good hour of decent swimming!

Our Father's Day Steam Engine was broken so the train was pulled by a Diesel one instead. Toddler didn't mind in the least -- "Diesel train diesel train! Ride diesel train!" He had a lovely day. I think so did Toddler's Daddy and Grandpa.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/06/2012 20:18

Thank you, Tea.

::swigs cocktail::

Mellors taking his shirt off, did you say?

::reaches for opera glasses::

oxeye · 18/06/2012 14:16

Mistle - poor old MC we have similar fall between the groups in playground - Oxboy finds football "boring" (and he can't kick the ball) and doesn't like power rangers or moshi or the other "boy" games. He has taken to playing with the girls, he plays house-with-tag-and-dragons as far as I can see - all seems to have worked out

Tea - sounds like the Teenager came Good at the party?

Maud ::clasps to my feeble bosom:: lovely to see you my dear

mistlethrush · 18/06/2012 14:24

Grin I shall suggest that DS tries to persuade his female friends that they should try 'dragons' rather than 'kittens' which makes MC go Envy (tearoom special). Thank you! Grin

CMOTDibbler · 18/06/2012 15:11

DS plays medieval knights at lunchtime - this is girls and boys, and it seems successful

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 18/06/2012 15:41

Yes, I was going to suggest playing with girls. Boys who aren't football-y seem to have a raw deal at play times. I tried to introduce a ban on football one day a week at my school, in the hope that something a bit more creative and inclusive might emerge ... but it was vetoed. Footballing boys seem to have priority. UniS might recognise a book by Diana Wynne Jones set in a school, where they distinguished between the 'real boys' and the 'real girls' and the others. It might be 'Witch Week'.

Donki · 18/06/2012 16:19

It's hard sometimes, when your little boy is not getting on with friends/socially - and you can't find a way to fix it. The YD is obsessed with fantasy - playing at transformers, or superheroes, or vikings with pet dragons (as in How to train your...). Football holds no interest. And he finds it hard to play even with like minded friends, since he can't cope if they won't follow his ideas... It is getting to be a wonder that he has any friends left, and those 2 are starting to drift away as the social skills gap widens...

Just got the ASD screening form back from school to take to the CAMHS meeting on Weds., and gosh it is depressing looking at all the stuff they have ticked as a 'major concern'. It's something like 70% of the categories - and most of the rest are 'minor concern'. The only things they are not worried about are his maths, reading and science...

(Sorry to hijack, MistleThrush - I hope that playing dragons with his female friends works for Mistle Chick)

Jacksmania · 18/06/2012 16:40

Good morning all. We had the wettest weekend EVER. Saturday it rained so hard that it sounded like someone was standing outside the window hissing.
I am SO sick of rain and cold.

On the :o side, JB had his very first ever sleepover on Friday night. One of his best little friends from preschool invited him and two other boys (cousins I believe) for a sleepover. I can't believe how well he did! He was a bit upset at bedtime but then cuddled his bear and went to sleep without any problems. Woke up wayyyy early (poor friend who hosted!) but had a wonderful time. :)

How is everyone?

Donki · 18/06/2012 16:42

Don't look now! The sun has just come out....

UniS · 18/06/2012 22:00

wooohoooo, sunnnnnnnnn.

Our solar water system got the whole tank (250l) up to 57 degrees, hurrah.

I've just spent an hour and half in gareden and green house doing some of teh things I wanted to get done last week. Shame that this week I'm working virtually full time :-( day one over, dull work but pleasant company. tomorrow is different employer, I'm accompanying a bunch of school children to a chess day. back to dull on wed, school kids again on thursday plus gardening then more dull on friday... I'll be ready for the weekend. How do you manage it week in week out Mistle, CMOT et al.

mistlethrush · 19/06/2012 12:15

That sounds great UniS!

We're getting a new boiler tomorrow - decided that the number of times we're having to rush downstairs to restart it (requiring steps in place constantly by the boiler) when we want a shower is just ridiculous now and its about 12 years old - hopefully new one will be a bit more efficient.

9 - 5 (well more like 8 - 4.30 some days with some extra tacked on here and there) you just get used to it.... Hmm At least my job's varied.

Donki sorry to hear a about YD CAHMS form - I guess the point to hangon to is they are trying to help and identify things now to assist over the long term? Heavens knows its tough though ::adds some carrots to the hay pile::

feeling unaccountably blue today, not sure why, all seems to be falling through my fingers like trying to hold onto water

I am tempted to answer your question UniS saying "I do it week in week out by failing to be a mother that is there for my boy anything like enough or anything like sufficiently" but it is a bad day
