The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

Pudding would be lovely.
I have had a bad weekend. Yesterday dad rang to say mum was unresponsive again, but this time the ooh dr came out and was concerned enough to send her to hospital. They did blood tests, xrays and a ct of her head. Turns out she has severe atrophy of part of her brain, and so they did cognitive which were abnormal. No actual answer to why she was so out of it, but she did come out of it again.
So the good news is that she'll now be going to the cognitive clinic and will actually get some help.
OTOH, I had to witter for 10 hours to dad who doesn't do sitting around, and to someone who hasn't got words for anything and doesn't remember asking the same question. And drive 200 miles and sleep in the worlds most uncomfortable bed. Am knackered

Jacksmania · 08/01/2012 21:12

(((((CMOT))))) :(
Sorry I only have half a second but didn't want to read and not post. That sounds horrid. :(

Scout19075 · 08/01/2012 21:15

Oh CMOT. I'm sorry. Sounds like you could use a Wine, a warm bath and bed.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/01/2012 21:31

Oh, Cmot. At least you have a diagnosis and (I hope) the prospect of some help from the clinic.

CMOTDibbler · 08/01/2012 21:47

Not a diagnosis yet, but a firm physical sign. Registrar said the clinic will provide support, and it seems their area is good on dementia

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/01/2012 21:50

No, diagnosis was the wrong word, but you have a, what?, description and other things will follow. I hope they can help your mum.

Thumbwitch · 08/01/2012 22:56

Oh CMOTD - have some more Wine if you're still up and definitely a (((hug))) - how devastating. I hope they find out what is causing it and can do something about it before it gets much worse.

Pudding you say? I'm trying to give it and other sweetly fattening things up and failing horribly because of the siren call of the chocolate - I still have half a box of Guylian to go from Christmas; mind you, I consider it a minor triumph that I haven't eaten them all yet! Has to be done though - scales creeping ever upwards = bad.

beanandspud · 08/01/2012 22:56

Thanks CMOT - that sounds like a tough weekend (physically and emotionally), hope you are ok.

And Scout, hope you are ok too. I read your post about Mr Scout's working hours and I can sympathise. On more than one occasion Mr Bean has been lucky not to find his Blackberry at the bottom of a swimming pool - I hate work stuff interrupting weekends and holidays as it's often the only proper family time that we have.

JM - get a good night's sleep and good luck with the course - just keep thinking about the end result...

I read all of the posts about middle age with interest as I have a 'significant' birthday in the next few weeks. I don't feel that old though but I can kind of sympathise with the urge to have a 'last chance baby'. It's hard at the moment because a lot of friends are having their second and there are still a lot of "you'll be next..." type comments. Hopefully these will dwindle as the years go on and well-meaning folk realise that it's just not going to happen.

Have had a lovely weekend with Small Bean, a few trips out and a nice tea with him at a Thai restaurant tonight. Makes me remember how lucky we are Smile.

I wish you all a good night's sleep and hope this coming week is quiet and calm for everyone.

Thumbwitch · 09/01/2012 00:20

Have you all noticed we are into the final 100 posts of this thread? Perhaps a little early to ask but where shall we go next?

how about an Italian villa, perhaps on the shores of Lake Garda; or maybe a volcanic spa resort (like on Ischia, the island next to Capri off the coast of Naples)

amberlight · 09/01/2012 09:29

CMOT, heck and double heck. Brew for you, I think. And for others.
Scout, yes, working hours can take over in a horrible way.
Bean, yup, significant birthdays are a real eeek moment. Hope that people's comments are favourable rather than alarming.
Thumb, very happy to let others decide next venue.

(I think the last year of constant medical stuff for me has made me poor company here, as I just can't concentrate well enough in non-visual message boards now. Finding facebook hugely easier because of the high visual content there, but it doesn't mean that I don't care about each person on this thread, whether they wish to believe it or not.)

CMOTDibbler · 09/01/2012 10:36

Tea is very gratefully accepted. Just spoken to dad, and he took her to the gp this morning and she kept falling asleep there. GP said he wasn't to drag her in and booked a home visit for tomorrow - an unknown thing before.

Amber, you are so supportive and loving in spite of a really tough year it is amazing

Thumbwitch · 09/01/2012 11:47

CMOTD - your parents' GP sounds very caring.

Amber - you are and always have been a star. We all know what kind of a tough time you are having, and yet you still always manage to have a thought for others in the middle of it - trust me there is no doubt in any of our minds that you are here for us when you can manage it; as we are here for you when you need us to be. Completely understand the ishoo re. visual/less visual - not a problem at all. Post where and when you need to, we'll support you all the way. :)

amberlight · 09/01/2012 15:12

That's very kind but there's nothing remotely star-like about me. I'm just as capable as everyone else of being annoying Smile but the one certainty is that I'm there when people need me, no matter who they are (well, provided I spot them waving for assistance of some kind). Just the way my brain works. Not heroism.

Ooo, danish pastries! Yum!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/01/2012 19:18

I've just spent a happy hour sewing the patches onto my new camp blanket, so thank you UniS and Scout for the patches!

Scout19075 · 09/01/2012 19:32

YAY Maud. Do you want to Toddler's for me?

Hello everyone.

CMOT, how are you parents' this evening?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/01/2012 23:26

Depends whether or not you want a quality job done, Scout. Confused

Hope Cmot's mum is doing better today.

Scout19075 · 10/01/2012 13:14

Brew?

Swimming day -- YAY!

CMOTDibbler · 10/01/2012 13:49

Mum is a bit less sleepy today - turns out the sleepiness is possibly that she is very anaemic, so that is being dealt with and an urgent appt at bighospital is being arranged. Major item of the day is that her new medication says do not drive, so she is giving up ! And they will get a mobility scooter ! Dad didn't even flip when I suggested a delivery of frozen meals, but is happy cooking atm

How is everyone ? Does anyone want to help me out with disposing of the selection boxes ds got given

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/01/2012 15:57

I would love some virtual chocolate as I have just been to my health screening session and definitely need to give up the real stuff! ::sobs:: Got any Cadbury's buttons?

That sounds very positive about your mum, in the sense that things are happening, appointments are being made and your dad seems to be onboard.

Scout19075 · 10/01/2012 17:17

For sale, one very cute toddler. I will pay you to take him.

No matter what MrScout's ETA for tonight is there will be Wine as soon as TS is tucked into bed.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/01/2012 17:30

Oh no, Scout, what's gone wrong with your day? The Girl would love to borrow Toddler, I am sure.

Scout19075 · 10/01/2012 18:09

Just a very difficult witching hour. Prolonged and loud. Toddler's gone to bed early -- for both of us.

Jacksmania · 10/01/2012 18:52

It's only 10:48 am here but I would quite like some wine and chocolate. This course isn't what'd I'd hoped for. I can handle a certain amount of woo-woo but beyond that, my inner scientist sits up and begs for some recognition. And so far it's not getting it.

CMOT, I'm so happy things are being done for your mum.

Scout, have more wine. It does help :o

Everyone else, mwah!

Scout19075 · 10/01/2012 18:54

MWAH!
