The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

For those crafty among us, would something like this be easy and inexpensive to make?

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 30/12/2011 22:10

Hmm. Unless you have a stock of fabric you can use, I suspect that by the time you have bought the curtain rod, all the fabric and other bits and bobs, it could cost you close to £15. Even in our local discount store, fabric these days seems to have become very expensive and the economics of making it yourself have shifted. It's a fabulous thing, though!

Scout19075 · 30/12/2011 22:16

I have random bits of fabrics and felts and some fabric paint, but no long bit of fabric. Also no sewing machine so need to borrow my friend's or do everything by hand (which I can do except for the major seams). I just didn't want to spend a lot if TS doesn't like it or if he does maybe make one for his cousins as a family Christmas gift.

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 30/12/2011 23:01

Well, if you have the fabric I reckon it will be pretty straightforward and cheap to do. You could probably do most of the 'sewing' with glue or wundaweb/bondaweb.

Scout19075 · 30/12/2011 23:06

Mom, seamstress extraordinaire the maker of dolls, stuffed friends, clothes and my wedding dress has said she'd make one. Grin I just need to measure our doorway/s for her.

UniS · 31/12/2011 18:29

thinking of taking boy and a few friends to www.clipnclimbexeter.co.uk/galleries.html for his birthday in a couple of months time, looks interesting!

puppet theatre looks cool scout. suspect the lakeland price is competitive to DIY given cost of extending shower pole etc. Other hanging methods would be cheaper .

Scout19075 · 31/12/2011 19:21

That looks fun, UniS! I'd happily go, too! Grin

Yes, thinking about it, I think I'm going to get one of those Lakeland theaters and put away. Question is do I get one for the cousins as well or not?

Donki · 31/12/2011 20:49

UniS that lookes fabulous - a shame it is the other end of the country!
The lakeland theatre looks excellent - 'though I don't think the YD would so much as look up from his Lego if presented with it :(

A slightly early
Thanks Happy New Year Thanks

Scout19075 · 31/12/2011 22:55

A bit early but Happy New Year everyone!

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 01/01/2012 01:02

Happy New Year to all the Tearoomers! May your 2012 be all you could wish it to be (and a sight better than 2011 for at least CMOTD, amber, teafortwo and anyone else who is glad to see the back of 2011)

Love, Wine and Thanks to you all for being here.

beanandspud · 01/01/2012 01:14

To everyone who's been such good and lively company over the past 12 months, happy new year!

Jacksmania · 01/01/2012 17:32

Happy New Year lovelies!

Scout19075 · 01/01/2012 17:33

I don't want to wish away the new year already but I'm soooo looking forward to tomorrow and going home!

CMOTDibbler · 01/01/2012 18:00

Happy new Year !

So far today, my mum has had a funny turn causing my dad to dial 999 (same as a few months ago, not really responsive, grey but got better after a few hours of this), and ds has just vomited lots. Joy.

OTOH, bunny is still being lovely

UniS · 01/01/2012 20:20

Happy New Year

hope things look up for you CMOT.

amberlight · 02/01/2012 07:39

CMOT, eek - what news?

Scout, hurrah for going home!

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 02/01/2012 08:28

CMOTD - that's a worry! Did they send an ambulance out? I don't want to add to the worry and I'm sure you already know this anyway but others might not know -the symptoms of heart attack in women can be very different from those in men. So the "standard" symptoms we're told to look for don't always apply to women.

Glad bunny is doing well!

Scout - hope you're enjoying home now!

MiniThumb is having a tough day today. Yesterday he fell off the trampoline, thanks to DH not closing the zip on the net Hmm and he split his chin, put his teeth through his lower lip (not too bad on the outside but nasty on the inside) and got a very nasty shock. His mouth is very sore indeed, he's not wanting to eat too much because it hurts (I can now see a bruise on his cheek as well so think he may have hurt more inside his mouth but can't get him to show me). We've steri-stripped his chin together - luckily MIL is a nurse so she came over and did that for us. It's not brilliant (he was screaming and squirming - took 2 of us to hold him while she did it) but it will be ok, I think. Typical to do it on NYD when there's a BH the day after!
DH is still contrite, just as well!

Hope the rest of you are having a better and more peaceful NY so far.

ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 02/01/2012 14:52

Ouch, Thumb! Hope he makes a swift recovery.

Meanwhile, I am obsessed with , having heard it for the first time yesterday. Yes, I know, I live under a stone.

Scout19075 · 02/01/2012 22:17

YAY for home!!!

Be back in the morning after a good night's sleep in my own bed for a more personal message.

Scout19075 · 03/01/2012 12:14

I love home. Home makes me happy (despite the incredibly crap East Anglia weather we're currently experiencing).

Scout19075 · 03/01/2012 12:41

And I love packages. Expected ones like craft books and stories and recipe books but I love unexpected ones even more (like the surprise gift from my best friend/Toddler's Godmother).

Speaking of packages -- JM, now that I have some decent boxes I can get your chocolates & hot chocolate boxed up and sent. Will get you a top up in this week's shop as well. Grin

CMOTDibbler · 03/01/2012 13:02

Weather is grim here too. Back to work for me today So tiddler and DH have gone out - I think soft play was on the horizon.

Mum seems to have recovered, but more vague than ever. Dad was taking her to the gp this morning, so will find out later what was said
