We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

I'm having a MrScout free night, Toddler's been in bed since 6:15 and I have a to do list the length of my arm. Instead I'm on the computer (to be fair, doing some of the emails on my list) and catching up on recorded tv from when we were on holiday.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 01/12/2011 20:26

How urgent are the things on your list? Why not take it slowly?

::tempts you with Wine::

Scout19075 · 01/12/2011 20:29

Am going slowly but was hoping to at least do the daily things like wash up today's dishes, take out the recycling, etc.

And I ate too much dinner -- I feel Envy (tea room special).

Jacksmania · 01/12/2011 23:41

Scout, the thing I've found that sucks about housework is that if you leave it, it's still going to be there in the morning.

And the thing that I've found that's beautiful about housework is that if you leave it, it's still going to be there in the morning.

:o

Not exactly helpful, or only in the sense that it puts it in perspective :o

Dear Serpent - :( I'm so sorry re everything you're having to handle. I'll add myself to Maud's admiration of the way you just get on with things... I think I would be crying in the corner.
I wish I was close enough to help :(

Wine, anyone?

Jacksmania · 01/12/2011 23:42

Oh and re Toddler sleeping that long - I think if JB had ever slept that long I'd have been doing handstands! Literally... I'd be on my yoga mat practicing handstands so as not to make an arse of myself in class :o

Scout19075 · 01/12/2011 23:50

Grin at JM.

It's just disconcerting -- this is the boy that never, EVER sleeps past 7. 7 a.m. is a lie-in. 7:30 is shocking. Today he needed a nap three hours after he got up but I only let him sleep an hour. Blush And he was in bed by 6:15. It just feels like soooo much sleep for a boy who is, in a lot of ways, "by the book" when it comes to his sleep requirements and predictability. I must admit I'm enjoying the lie-ins. Grin

Scout19075 · 01/12/2011 23:52

With my luck Toddler will be up at 4 a.m. and ready to start the day, especially since it's nearly midnight and I'm still up.

Jacksmania · 02/12/2011 00:00

Now that would really suck!!

BTW - did you find a dress to go with your necklace for the wedding?

Scout19075 · 02/12/2011 00:19

Sugar, no! I completely forgot to look for a dress! Blush I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.....

Jacksmania · 02/12/2011 00:20

Oops :o

Scout19075 · 02/12/2011 00:53

Oops indeed!

I hate clothes shopping for me. Especially with my weight and body shape ever changing at the moment. Everything needs to be tried on and if I'm the only one with Toddler it's not the easiest thing in the world to do (but I'm sure everyone here knows that feeling).

We're thinking we'll convert Toddler's sleeping space to a bed at the start of the new year, when we're home and things have settled down. I've been looking at "big boy bedding" since everything he's using at the moment is hand-me-down and for babies (for example, lots of knitted/crocheted blankets for cribs and pushchairs). MiL, who has offered to buy TS us "equipment" for Christmas (for example, they bought us the pushchair for TS's first Christmas) has said she'd get us the bedding if we choose what we'd like for him and suggested some sites I'd never had thought of looking at (or even knew existed). So many cute boy things out there for real little boys not too babyish and not too big boy, but things that should last the life of this size bed. I do love window shopping (or even getting things) for Toddler it's scary how much enjoyment it gives me, browsing through sites, making lists, etc. I wonder if people who have a baseball team sized family get as much pleasure doing this sort of thing for their 6-7-8th child as they did their first?

mistlethrush · 02/12/2011 08:44

Scout - word of warning on bedding - Mistlechick is a very warm blooded small boy. So when we tried him with his 'big boy duvet' two years ago when he first got the bed, he would wake up in the middle of the night completely soaked. So I had to find cotton blankets (you know, the holey ones?) and if it was very cold use two of them and a fleece blanket on top - which he could push off. He is JUST starting to use his duvet occasionally. This is a 4.5 tog summer weight duvet I hasten to add. With a lovely cover from Ikea. And its just been at the bottom of the bed being used to build camps or to sit on rather than as a bed covering.

Had such a positive parents evening last night - the teacher clearly knows the boy that I send in the morning - and we completely agree on where he needs to work (concentrating and not talking constantly, and sometimes keeping a thought or a piece of news to himself Grin). Completely different from last year's when I got told he was rude and disruptive.

amberlight · 02/12/2011 09:57

Morning all. I'm in hospital, where dh is having his operation at the moment. Soon I'll be driving myself over to radiotherapy, then back to get dh, then home to look after dh. Sad I'm a bit absent on here as I'm not handling more than one social media board at a time very well at the moment, but I do read and I do care.
Brew and choccy biscuits available.

CMOTdibbler · 02/12/2011 10:05

Love and thoughts to you and DH Amber. Know that you are surrounded by love Ok ?

beanandspud · 02/12/2011 10:24

Morning all! Thank goodness it's Friday - this week has been mad. I have some time off today and furiously wrapping Christmas presents and wasting time on mn as DH is visiting his family tomorrow and it saves having to post everything.

Thinking of you and DH Amber, I hope it all goes well.

Serpent - I'm so sorry to hear what you are having to cope with. You really are a strong lady. Will you be able to get a bit of 'Serp-time' over the weekend to do something nice?

I get a lot of pleasure from choosing things like that as well Scout. We need to move Small Bean from his cot bed to a proper-size bed in the new year and I've started looking at bedding etc. I'm not a huge fan of the character sets but really like the things like this. I'm just not sure how long I've got before SB decides that it's too babyish Sad.

MT - that sounds like such a positive parents' evening - hurray to MC!

Brew, Xmas Biscuit and Thanks on their way to all who need it. oh, and Wine for TW as it must be about that time?

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 02/12/2011 11:11

mc has this one

I like the look of this one

and this is good for car fans

At least there does seem to be a choice of bedding type options for boys and its not all Ben 10 etc

Amber - hope all goes as well as it can do today and that both go well.

Scout19075 · 02/12/2011 19:35

Wine?

Scout19075 · 02/12/2011 21:57

Hope you're okay, amber.

How are you today, Serp?

MT, YAY for teacher conference feedback!

Jacksmania · 03/12/2011 00:04

Mistle, so pleased for you re good review. That's lovely :)

Thumb - Wine from me, too.

Amber - thinking of you and hoping everything went well. Sorry I only saw this so late.

Serpent - how was today for you? Sending you and everyone who needs them big warm non-threatening ((((HUGS)))).

Jacksmania · 03/12/2011 00:08

Oh, just a piece of good news from JMland - I passed my practice self-review. The professional assessment I was stressing over so badly in Oct. I'm still behind on paperwork, and the registrar made some very useful suggestions for improving the quality of my documentation which are easy to implement, and once I'm caught up, it will be clear sailing. The next self-review isn't for five years, and I've vowed never to fall behind again once caught up, so by the next review it should be as stress-free as it can be.
Thank you to everyone for your good thoughts and suggestions for how to tackle the paper mountain. It all helped me become much more organized and less stressed. Thanks

Scout19075 · 03/12/2011 00:36

YAY for JM!

Scout19075 · 03/12/2011 20:36

'Evening all!

beanandspud · 03/12/2011 20:45

Fab news JM have some Thanks and Wine

I had the great pleasure of meeting up with UniS, Boy and MrUniS this afternoon. Tiddler and I had a lovely time

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 03/12/2011 21:31

I just wrote a very long post, with lots of individual messages and, mysteriously, my internet suddenly went, just for a couple of seconds. I cannot spend another 45 minutes writing it all again, but you are all a life line at the moment ....
Any recommendations for escapist reading? Very light, absolutely no misery, definitely optimistic and positive, but must be reasonably well written. The library book I am reading at the moment is dragging drearily on and not doing its job at all. When I was much younger, I used to read Morris West when things were really bleak, especially The Devil's Advocate.
