The moving castle tea room touches down for the 29th time

Welcome to the tea room. Open to those with one child and those with more and maybe some with none ( hi dave the trucker).

This time we are heading to the mists and mellow fruitfulness of Autumn in a moving castle with a mind of its own. The roaring fire is maintained by magic and Mellors the gardener handles wine and spirits along with massage duties.

The first rule of the tea room is this
No fisticuffs.
The second is this
Put the kettle on for Brew and help yourself to a Biscuit

Scout19075 · 04/10/2011 23:14

Sorry: TS would join in WITH two different types of waving...

Heck, he shouldn't be the only member of the Scout household in bed!

Jacksmania · 04/10/2011 23:14

Amber - "So if people use metaphors, idioms etc, I can find it really strange. "He was wet behind the ears" apparently doesn't mean that his ears need drying, for example My reaction might be to find it funny, and then people think I might be being sarcastic or laughing at them rudely."

I know exactly what you mean!!! My first language was German. We emigrated from Germany to Canada when I was 11 (or thereabouts) which was when I learned English. Even though I think of English as my "first" language now, and have done for many years (I speak, listen, think and dream in English), having learned it second means that I also had to learn the idioms and puns. And I still occasionally notice them, and get images in my head that are literal - to my huuuuuuuge amusement and a lot of other people's Hmm.

For example, "the shoe's on the other foot" - I picture a person with shoes on the wrong feet :o
"Pot calling kettle black" - I picture kitchen ware talking to each other. It's a wonder I can carry on a conversation while :oing to myself in my head.

So I totally get what you mean.

Oh, that was fun Maud. Grin

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 07:35

YAY for Toddlers who slept past 6 a.m.!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/10/2011 08:59

Wahoo! And yes, what larks on YT!

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 09:11

Bigger YAY! for Toddlers who sleep until after 7 a.m. It's a rare event so I am grateful when it happens.

LittleDeerandMe · 05/10/2011 10:27

Morning! Feel bleargh today, hurting to swallow and face aching.

Jm - I also see everything people say, I never thought of it as odd!

Too bleargh to type/think anymore, might go for a lie down.

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 11:44

That doesn't sound good.

I need a brief rant.

The CHEEK of some people! I've always thought our window cleaner was a bit (ahem) dodgy and today has just proved it. He came looking for payment (fair enough) and say "it's z. It should be x but with the y for today it'll be z to even up. I'll be back over to do it and settle up when I finish up the road." Fair enough. But I've been in all morning (TS and I have been playing cars and watching ITNG) but he didn't do the windows before knocking and after he knocked again he just drove off. It's a good thing MrScout has FINALLY listened to me when I said I didn't trust the guy (haven't for years, but since being a SAHM I really don't as I'm around most of the time and only ever see him when he wants money) and we're sending him a note saying we don't require his services any longer. Because I can't put my hand on my checkbook at the moment I'm going to post it to him tomorrow (not the first time we've posted as he'll call MrScout and say "can I have x") but am soooo tempted to only send "x" instead of "z".

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 11:46

(Sorry, I know I shouldn't stiff him, honestly. But it just p!isses me off -- I've been here all morning, he told me he was doing today and so the total owed would be increased by the monthly fee and then he didn't do it!)

mistlethrush · 05/10/2011 11:48

I hope you're feeling better soon LD&M

I was woken up by wriggly chick coming into bed because he'd had a bad dream. Luckily it wasn't too long before hte alarm went off, but its amazing how much wriggling can be done in a short space of time.

We had a fairly sucessful pre-school set off today - although he's left his football gear in the car and I'm going to have to go out at lunchtime and drop it into school - better than turning round and trying to find a parking place near school at drop off time!

Have Drs appt this evening - which I'm going to notwithstanding the improvement at school - because we still have difficult sessions. Told mc this morning - he thought he was in trouble or something - I hope I've made it very clear to him that this is not the case at all.

mistlethrush · 05/10/2011 11:50

Scout - definitely only send x.

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 12:10

Glad it's not just me, MT. I don't think I could not because I'm not sure how to write a note saying "you said you were going to do it but you didn't so you're not getting the extra money."

mistlethrush · 05/10/2011 12:12

Agreed - this is the payment for the window cleaning you have carried out - I note that you didn't clean the windows when you said you would on Tuesday, so have not included that money. If you require one month's notice, please call when you have cleaned the windows for that payment.

Or words to that effect.

amberlight · 05/10/2011 14:48

We had a window cleaner who only did X and not Y. When we asked him to stop, he didn't. So we asked him again in writing and he came round with his ladders and smashed the tiles on the roof. Charming.

Thumbwitch · 05/10/2011 14:57

Goodness - dodgy window cleaners are the last thing anyone wants! :(

Scout, definitely only send X and tell him Y Wink! (sorry).

MT - good idea to still go to the doc - may as well continue along the path you have started because MC's improvement may not last (although I have everything crossed for you that it does)

Deer - you are unwell. If you are not back in bed by now, go back.

No idea re. food dehumidifiers UniS but have an idea - will contact you in t'other place. :)

Shouldn't be up - have to get up relatively early to take DS for his swimming lesson tomorrow. Probably shouldn't do that either as he is slightly runny of nose and slightly chesty - but he's not slowed down at all, no temp, no other "illish" symptoms that I think he'll be ok. I'm probably going to regret it but we'll see.

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 17:56

He has gone into our back garden to peer in to see if I was home (downstairs only two rooms and you can see through if the door between the rooms is open). He's also gone into the back garden to "fill up his bucket for the next job" while peering in but came to the door with an empty bucket (and left after speaking to me). Hmm Honestly, he creeps me out and I try to not deal with him. MrScout has finally seen sense.

Oh, something's not right with TS -- he's been clingy this afternoon and feels a bit warm. In fact, he's struggling to get onto my lap now. Will be back to finish my post when he's in bed.

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 20:08

MrScout's just broken all of Toddler's Candy Cane Reindeer. Sad (and a bit Angry at him)

beanandspud · 05/10/2011 20:17

Evening all! ::waves::

Haven't been around for a few days as work has been mad. I'm alone in a hotel tonight so I'm happy to place room service orders for the tearoom if you let me know what you would like (the strawberry shortcake dessert looks particularly good this evening!)

Scout - boo to dodgy window cleaners and broken reindeer

MT and Unis - well done to MC and Boy!

LD&M and TW - I hope you both feel better.

UniS · 05/10/2011 20:22

All the reindeer!!! oh dear.

Does TS know?

Does teh room service menu include smores or candy cane reindeer? I think Scout needs some of both.

CMOTdibbler · 05/10/2011 20:25

Wine anyone ? I have returned from foreign climes, having spent an exhausting few days showing off my new software version, and fortunatly got three seats to myself so could lie down all flight which was fab.

oh no to the reindeer !

Bean, a room service menu thats nice ? Thats a change !

beanandspud · 05/10/2011 20:29

Wine yes please CMOT! How do you manage with all the travelling that you do - it sounds exhausting?

Scout19075 · 05/10/2011 20:30

Gutted about the reindeer. We had only made seven so far, but they were all in a row, hanging over one of our (currently unused) cereal storage containers, staring out at us in a jolly way. It's only happened in the last few minutes and TS is in bed. I'm not sure he'll notice, to be honest, but I'm Sad as they were lovely and lopsided and fabulously glued by TS.

Welcome back, CMOT. Did you find any more coffee while you were there?

bean, think I'm envious of your quiet/undisturbed night all alone.

CMOTdibbler · 05/10/2011 20:42

The travelling itself is tiring, but I do get to sleep more when away (as I won't go out to bars), so it balances out. I've been doing this for 11 years now, and before ds I travelled a lot more - like 2 weeks a month in the US and another european week.

We did find a source of coffee in the convention centre, but it wasn't very good. Not a very impressive convention centre tbh. But I did get to have dinner at PF Changs which I love as they have a great gf menu
