The moving castle tea room touches down for the 29th time

Welcome to the tea room. Open to those with one child and those with more and maybe some with none ( hi dave the trucker).

This time we are heading to the mists and mellow fruitfulness of Autumn in a moving castle with a mind of its own. The roaring fire is maintained by magic and Mellors the gardener handles wine and spirits along with massage duties.

The first rule of the tea room is this
No fisticuffs.
The second is this
Put the kettle on for Brew and help yourself to a Biscuit

Sounds lovely Donki Smile.

Thumb - we have a cat. The problem with being in is just temporary. Dh normally comes home monday and goes again on Thurs. He likes to stay in the house when he is here to make up for being away. The problem was just that this week he unexpectedly was told there was no work on thurs and so didn't go until today. He wanted us all to stay in the house all the while! I could have gone out on my own I know, but when he's around it's nice for us all to be together.

LittleDeerandMe · 02/10/2011 20:44

So earlier at the supermarket we were by the trolleys when someone said to LittleDeer 'Careful your fingers don't get caught' (or something along those lines), I looked up and it was a famous child psychologist trying to put his shopping trolley into the trolley thingy. He has tv shows, radio q&a thingy, books, newspaper q&a thing etc. I was startled and froze!!! I was going to smile, but then thought that he'd think I was only smiling at him because he's famous, I also thought 'oh no, a child psychologist, what am I supposed to say to LittleDeer that doesn't look like terrible parenting' so I just stood there like an idiot looking away Blush Blush and I just muttered 'Careful LittleDeer' while not even barely looking at ds! So, now he'll think I'm unfriendly and a terrible parent!

Boys National costume for a brit ? always a tricky one...

Pearly king - looks good but tricky to make on the cheap n quick.
Brit on holiday- knotted hankie, rolled up trousers, string vest .
Morris Dancer - hankies at dawn - white clothes for cotswold, black n rags for boarder.
Robin hood style woodsman/ forrester.
Sailor suit.

Did they say British or English? Kilts whilst being Scottish are also British but not English.

(I often think of a police officer with a funny hat when I think of British national dress. Blush.)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 02/10/2011 21:57

I love the Pearly King idea. Could you go to John Lewis, buy a zillion buttons and glue-gun them on?

UniS · 02/10/2011 22:27

Pram race was today... we won...not teh race but - hurrah- The Fancy dress cup. Hurrah. There was a nice unity in difference in our teams costumes. So- not all teh same but colours and fabrics repeated in different parts of different costumes, al the hats matching but home made, accessories home made etc. Looked good.

Boy was cute mini Robin Hood, DH was big Robin Hood. I was friar Tuck with a cushion down my habit and a VERY hot sweaty tonsure wig. will post link in other place for pic.

Way to go, UniS!

::watches UniS run around the tea room with her t-shirt pulled over her head::

amberlight · 02/10/2011 22:39

Shock I shall avert my eyes!

Wine to celebrate, UniS?

UniS · 02/10/2011 22:50

not sure I want any MORE alcohol! how about a nice Brew of hot choc.

I was VERY hot in that costume and happily ( and swiftly) necking a half of bitter at each of the 4 pubs.

ph heck- just remembered boy has cookery club tomorrow after school, best go find him some ingredients. And most of eth utensils and dishes required- school has no teaching kitchen so everything bar the cooker and washing up bowl ( including tea towel) has to be taken in.

I am not impressed with this weeks work place. Today, I have eaten one cereal bar, a packet of crisps and a mini Snickers. And had one cup of coffee. Then been nice to people for 10 hours. This is not easy !

Scout19075 · 03/10/2011 08:24

Who needs a Halloween mask when I can just give Toddler green finger paint to make holly leaves? In his squirming he's covered not only his hands but arms, face and hair as well. Grin Good thing we were going for a shower this morning before we went anywhere!

Had a bit of a wibble last night when I came across one of TS's newborn onsies. I think it's compounded by the fact that his birthday is this month and over the weekend ran into a Guide mum who said "no way has it been two years!"

mistlethrush · 03/10/2011 10:38

Scout - with you there - just going through getting rid of everything and its not easy.

When ds was little I did potato print holly leaves (use a pastry cutter and push into flat cut face of potato and cut around edge) and then small finger made a very good holly berry size. Blue and yellow paint mixed made much better (and slightly variable) green too. We did all of our christmas cards like that.

Fancy dress sounds great UniS - well done on the win!

I managed to cut the grass on Sat pm although it was heavy going in the heat. That was after spending several hours at MC's karate 'event' which generally speaking he enjoyed quite a bit! And his (white) trousers have even come clean with a bit of help.

CMot - hope the refreshments situation improves - otherwise you'll have to take your own tray in (preferably supported round your neck of course)

Scout19075 · 03/10/2011 10:58

I've thought about doing something like that, too, MT. Right now TS is making lots of green handprints that I'll cut out and then we'll glue them onto a heavy paperplate in a ring to make a wreath. We do a couple of pages (3-4 hands per sheet) every few days and on his birthday we'll do red prints to make the bow of the wreath. I may or not put a picture in the middle of the wreath (to save cutting out the center of the plate). This is going to be TS's present to both sets of Grandparents for Christmas. I'm also mixing blue and yellow to get the different shades of green. Grin

He's also painting yellow/red/orange on big sheets of paper and I'll cut out circles and we'll glue turkey bodies on them to make placemats for Thanksgiving dinner (mmmm, turkey dinner).

CMOT, knowing where you are, I'm shocked and appalled at the lack of decent meals! Shock

Well done TeamUniS! Grin

mistlethrush · 03/10/2011 11:43

Scout - wrapping paper is also good - long roll of brown paper - appropriate colours with or without potato prints.... (stars work well too)

Hand prints also make good reindeer horns.

Scout19075 · 03/10/2011 12:08

Had thought about doing wrapping, too. Will have to do his American grandparents' paper in the States, though -- I don't wrap anything before I pack them because, inevidably, the paper gets ripped in transit or the TSA opens things. Sad

Scout19075 · 03/10/2011 12:10

Actually, that's something my mom would really enjoy doing with TS -- maybe I'll suggest it.

mistlethrush · 03/10/2011 19:00

salt dough decorations is another good one with parents - its two sessions too - the making and then you get to decorate.

ChablisLover · 03/10/2011 19:24

All this talk of Christmas is making me nervous. I like to get through Halloween.

The brown wrapping paper and salt dough sounds like a fab rainy day idea. Last winter we did Christmas cards from kits I had bought. Smallchablis loved it.

Let us know how you get on scout - might add it to my list.

We are having fun with letters at the mo. He is learning so much in school but he did tell the speech therapist this afternoon that her a was wrong as it did not have a wee wiggle At the end.

Getting jealous of all this lovely weather you all seem to be having. We have cold and rain here - northern Ireland. And it is quite dark and autumnal looking. V dark when I get up for work and that really is depressing. If it was warm it would be better.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/10/2011 19:33

It's the combination of heat and dark evenings which I'm finding really discombobulating.

The handprint wreath sounds fabulous!

Scout19075 · 03/10/2011 19:37

We painted salt dough ornaments last year at a group and were planning on doing it again this year. Did you know you can make salt dough ornaments in the microwave?

UniS · 03/10/2011 19:48

evening all.
Chablis- cool when they tick the SALT off for not doing something "right" isn;t it. Boy was adamant that her picture of a "flag" was a "devon flag" she was just trying to get him to use initial F sounds... Hope your SALT experience is as effective as ours was. we are a year on now and you can;t tell he was missing soooo many sounds this time last year.

Twiglet supreme al la mode ? or would you like a smooothie? runnerbean and strawberry with apple would be may first offering, need to use up some of this glut of garden produce.

Hello! This is the behatted aztec tearoomer here, trying out a new name. It feels a bit weird because I haven't done any name changing for years; but thought what the hell. My namesake is an 18th century historian and a great favourite of the English radicals and the French revolutionaries (Amber I shall pm you and tell you who I am); she's up there with Hume on my favourite people of 18th century...(I did think about transforming in to Hume; but perhaps will leave it til later.)

Thanks for the explanation Amber; in my case, the more you explain the better it is for me! I am still woefully ignorant about autism. The whole thing about the TR for me is that we want to be friends on our own terms; and your terms are therefore very important to understand and respect.

UniS · 03/10/2011 20:48
