The moving castle tea room touches down for the 29th time

Welcome to the tea room. Open to those with one child and those with more and maybe some with none ( hi dave the trucker).

This time we are heading to the mists and mellow fruitfulness of Autumn in a moving castle with a mind of its own. The roaring fire is maintained by magic and Mellors the gardener handles wine and spirits along with massage duties.

The first rule of the tea room is this
No fisticuffs.
The second is this
Put the kettle on for Brew and help yourself to a Biscuit

Mistlechick has a girl in his class who winds him up - he gets into trouble for it and she gets off scot-free. This is Not Good for MC, of course.

Did I mention we had haggis innabun for lunch? it was fried slices of haggis and was fabulous!

purpleknittingmum · 17/09/2011 13:07

Oh that is annoying for little MC! Had similar incidents when my daughter was at primary school. We and teachers told her to tell staff when stuff happened, yet when she did, she would be accused of sort of attention seeking, so she ended up not telling us or teachers

In the end a dinner lady overheard 2 girls telling a younger lad to go hit our daughter, she didn't think he would, but he did, and the dinner lady spoke up. No apologies or nothing. Apparently my daughter got in trouble for playing pile on with a girl that wasn't well. I can't remember all the details but she never started the game, others did, but they never got into trouble for it.

My OH is Scottish and I have only ever tried haggis once, wasn't keen, I am a bit of fussy eater!

CMOTdibbler · 17/09/2011 13:33

Grin at haggisinnabun

DS is off playing with futurewife, dh is working on the garden with his brother, and I am resting on the bed Grin

amberlight · 17/09/2011 14:17

Haggisinabun?! Shock Well I never!

I'm alright thanks. Just been out to the garden centre/horse feed centre with my dsis and came back with a wide variety of weird things. Feel better for getting out for a bit. Just need to work out what to do with the rest of the weekend now....

Thumbwitch · 17/09/2011 14:40

Rest, woman! Well, rest and have a nice pub lunch, maybe a bit of a nice walk if the weather lets you, light pottering in the garden (and no that does NOT mean chopping down trees or similar!)
:)

LittleDeerandMe · 17/09/2011 16:51

Serpent - good point about my name. It is a bit strange being called me though isn't it?! But I can't be LittleDeer as LittleDeer is LittleDeer Confused!! So what can I be called perhaps LD? or LDAM? Oh, what about Deer?

LittleDeer's school is actually in a woods, you have to walk though little pathways in the woods to get from classroom to classroom. And lots of the bigger trees have swings hanging from them. There is an outside pizza oven and every friday is pizza day and a parent volunteers to help keep the fire going so the teacher is free to do things with the children. It was lovely being in the school, made me so sure we are sending him to the right place.

LittleDeerandMe · 17/09/2011 16:51

Ok off to catch up now!

LittleDeerandMe · 17/09/2011 17:01

PKM - How annoying!

Thumb - Sounds like a fun day. Envy at weather getting warmer, we had no summer here, honestly it was 15 degrees and raining.

Amber - How's the relaxing going? Grin

Will someone make me go and clear out the guest room! The in laws arrive on Monday and there are still about 20 unpacked boxes in there Shock. At the mo they couldn't so much as get to the bed Grin.

LittleDeerandMe · 17/09/2011 17:02

Wow, I think that was my personal record for number of emoticons in one post!

purpleknittingmum · 17/09/2011 17:09

I like emoticons, I think they can make the post, I often find myself pulling a Shock face or a big :o

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 17/09/2011 21:10

What an amazing school, Deer!

Tee2072 · 17/09/2011 21:28

Deer that school sounds awesome! Now go unpack some boxes!

My in laws are here tonight. As usually took LCT about 10 minutes before he was handing Granny all of his toys and making faces at Grandad!

Amber! Early to bed! ::stern look::

I'm off to bed myself. Too much Wine! Night!

Scout19075 · 17/09/2011 21:57

We've had a good day in Scoutshire. I really do think we live in one of the prettiest county in the country. We went to Snape Maltings (in, wait for it, Snape!) and then on to Dunwich Heath for cream tea and a frolick on the beach. I have one happy and tired Toddler who loved playing on the beach and with the sea (note I didn't say IN the sea, though I think he'd have gone running in if we had let him). I'm tired, too, and my face is starting to hurt again (ugh).

MrScout's anniversary gift arrived today and a package delivery was attempted soon after we left for the day, so that must have been the train bits.

We think we may have figured out what's sometimes upsetting TS at the end of In The Night Garden -- IgglePiggle! Strange since it never seemed to bother him the few times we'd watched it over the summer. He doesn't seem to mind it during the program, just at the end, as it's skipping towards the merry-go-round/floating on the sea. Is this normal or is my toddler just odd?

beanandspud · 17/09/2011 22:40

Haggis in a bun - DH loves that!! Grin On the nights that I am away he has been known to cook himself a whole haggis, neeps and tatties. He is very much looking forward to taking Small Bean to a proper Burns Night.

Deer - the school sounds amazing - I will be suggesting to nursery that an outdoor pizza oven might be just what they need next!

Scout - that sounds like a perfect day (particularly with a tired toddler at the end). Hope you are feeling better. Scoutland is a great part of the country. I don't know about ITNG though - I always found myself tutting that Igglepiggle didn't go to bed when he should...

We also have a very tired Small Bean. After years of being Very Strict about bedtime even on holiday we have kind of 'gone with the flow' this week (feels rather Shock) and he is loving every minute. At the risk of being a bit mushy we have been so proud of him the last few days despite the occasional stroppy toddler moment. Don't you wish you could bottle the good times to keep you going during those awful days?

Lots of Wine Wine Wine for everyone?

Scout19075 · 17/09/2011 23:16

bean, the second time he got upset at ITNG this week I thought it was because he realized he was going to bed (the first time he did it he had a temperature so chalked it up to not feeling well). But today he saw a coloring book with pencils on a stand and while he was facinated by it refused to get close to it. I took it off the shelf to offer it to him and he backed away but moved closer to it when I covered the IP picture. Strange. Otherwise he seems to really like the program and even at my friend's house (where we were for a Guide for a meeting) when he heard the theme music he ran to me and climbed on my lap for a snuggle (which is what we do both at home and at his Nana's when we watch it).

I'm not sure I've ever had haggis. Unfortunately I know what it is so not sure I'll ever convince myself to try it. No idea what a neep is, though!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/09/2011 23:23

A neep is ::racks brains:: a turnip.

Girl is too old for us to have seen ITNG much, but the whole thing looks like how I imagine an LSD trip would be.

::not much help::

Scout19075 · 17/09/2011 23:30

I kinda like ITNG. Blush Though not nearly as much as my MiL does. It's defintely better than Teletubbies, Barney and Waybaloo (Waybaloo, honestly, creaps me AND TS out and he won't sit & watch it). The music and the narrator's voice are soothing. And the pattern of the program never changes, no matter who the main characters of the episode are. I like that in the program.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/09/2011 23:34

I still like Charlie and Lola but never get to watch it now. ::sob::

Scout19075 · 17/09/2011 23:38

Oh yes, Charlie and Lola is cute. And Maud, you don't need a small person to watch cartoons yourself.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/09/2011 23:44

No, but I need access to the remote control, which is (apparently) shared between The Girl and The Bloke and I hardly get a look-in. Hence the time I spend on MN.

Thumbwitch · 18/09/2011 00:36

neeps are ostensibly turnips but are in fact swedes. No idea of the rights of it, but the English call the white vegetable a turnip and the orange one a swede, whereas the Scots call the orange one a turnip and not sure what they call the white one.

So neeps and tatties is mashed swede and mashed potato. :)

Tee2072 · 18/09/2011 08:35

Just to add to the confusion...Americans call the orange one a rutabaga. Grin

beanandspud · 18/09/2011 08:48

According to DH, in Scotland the small, white ones are also called turnips although he claims not to have seen one until he was 25.

I don't dislike ITNG - I also find it quite soothing! Small Bean is currently obsessed with Jake and the Never Land Pirates - a particuarly 'catchy' theme tune which I struggle to get out of my head. Fortunately we never got into Wayballoo as the little I saw of it was pretty dreadful and don't get me started on the purple dinosaur!!!

Brew and pain au chocolate this morning anyone?

Thumbwitch · 18/09/2011 09:27

bean - same thing in Australia, as it happens - orange turnips and white turnips here too. Hmm
mind you, here they're a bit dim on veggies - they call spring onions shallots, fgs!! (shallots are also called shallots Hmm)

Did I mention we managed to buy another haggis as well? DH was almost keen to have it for lunch today but we already had cold sausage, so it will be saved for another weekend, sometime before the middle of October (when it expires Grin) Don't know whether we have to boil it before we can fry it though; or whether we can just slice and fry it. Fried haggis is even nicer than boiled haggis, I've discovered!

UniS · 18/09/2011 18:35

previously cooked hagis is good cold, sliced in sandwiches.

I love haggis.

As for pre boiling/ steaming / baking before frying.. don;t know. Suspect it would help as that long slow cook lets the cereals soak up all the juice and and teh fat ouuuzz and spread it's yummyness about.
