Picture the scene...

From the edge of every terrace and every step hang brilliantly white stalactites, and you can hear the joyful splashing of the waters of the hot springs as they cascade down over slopes where their flow is impeded only by clumps of oleanders.

Nearby is an oasis of refreshments, in our Pamukkale residence, air conditioned and with white washed generously proportioned rooms, with Mellors at the ready, to offer Turkish Massage to anyone who wishes.

The NMBs are in their element, whereas the bishops seem to have found their speedoes again.

Priest's hole is at the back, in a quiet shaded area, stocked with What Car magazines, Turkish rugs and Turkish delight

Morning all!

Had a good little lie in today! I normally stir at about 7am, but I woke up at 6ish and went back to sleep until 8am! Might not sound much to some folks but I am an early bird and that is a lie in for me!

Looks like it is going to be a lovely day again today. Have some bananas going speckled and will make some gorgeous flapjack later

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 31/07/2011 10:28

Banana flapjack? That sosunds yummy. Can you post the recipe? We always have bananas going slightly off and need a few recipes apart from banana cake!

Steeplearningcurve · 31/07/2011 10:31

Morning. Thank you all for the nice welcome! DD has unfortunately decided nighttime is not for sleeping

She was being really good until this last week, serves me right for saying I had a good sleeper Smile

purpleknittingmum · 31/07/2011 10:32

This is the recipe I use

www.flapjackrecipe.com/chewy-flapjack-recipe/

I adapt it sometimes and leave out the banana and put melted chocolate on the top, or some dried cranberries!

stickwithit · 31/07/2011 12:32

Hi all, just popping in to say I am still here! Everyone is so busy- it's hard to keep up! I hope everyone is having a lovely day today.

DS has been begging to see his little friend who lives a few doors down. I bravely popped over to invite him to play earlier and DS ended up staying there to play instead Smile. I worry a little about being seen as the imposing mum of the 'only' who is after a play mate for her PFB Blush.

The sun is shining here, hope everyone else has good weather too.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 31/07/2011 13:22

Oh dear, Steep. Do you need a coffee? Or some matchsticks to prop your eyes open? I'm sure you haven't been seen as imposing, Stickwithit. Children with siblings are often glad to have the chance to play with someone else!

That recipe sounds good, PKM!

Mellors is now serving luncheon on the terrace. All dietary needs, fads and preferences are catered for.

Steeplearningcurve · 31/07/2011 13:39

Large cup of coffee definitely needed! She is being extra cute this morning to make up for it Smile

PKB - I am going to have to make that banana flapjack soon!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 31/07/2011 13:42

::Proffers coffee::

Baby girls (in my very limited experience as a mother-of-one, doncha know) are always cute!

Steeplearningcurve · 31/07/2011 13:49

Thanks.

She seems to be learning something new everyday now. Starting back to work part time tomorrow - excited but also sad.

Jacksmania · 31/07/2011 14:37

Good morning all!
Maud, I have a lovely recipe for Banana Bread I'll post when we're back home. I put walnut and toffee bits on top. It's yummy.

Went to DH's cousin's wedding yesterday and was PMSL thinking of the, oh... about a dozen AIBU threads I could have started, from all the whispering that was going on :o

AIBU to think that the mother of the groom shouldn't be wearing a white sparkly dress?
AIBU to think that the bride's SIL shouldn't have worn a dress that
barely covered her bum? (A stunner of a dress, honestly, just a bit short.)
AIBU to think that eight-year-olds shouldn't be giving speeches at weddings? (An incredibly heart-warming speech from a little boy who was nearly sobbing a few times as he poured out his love for his uncle and new auntie... not a dry eye in the house!!)
And so on... some people are just too grumpy for words!!! But it did give me a good giggle to think what the MN Jury would say :o

stickwithit · 31/07/2011 14:41

Delicious lunch thank you Mellors!

Comeinto, thanks for the reassurance. I am probably worrying about nothing (I am good at that).

Hope the adjustment back to work gies goes well tomorrow Steep. How many days will you be working each week?

Jacksmania hope the inlaws are not staying toooo long!

Steeplearningcurve · 31/07/2011 14:59

Only going into the office two days a week.. Sure it will be fine!

All the nice cake suggestions are making me hungry.

purpleknittingmum · 31/07/2011 16:26

Mmm toffee on a flapjack! Don't think I have ever had walnuts before. I have just scoffed a piece, I love it, I tend to take a bit to work every day for my break!

UniS · 31/07/2011 19:17

evening all, UniS is also back from camping.

UniS · 31/07/2011 19:17

And heading out to teh pub ASAP.

beanandspud · 31/07/2011 20:10

Evening all!

Welcome back Unis, did you have a good time?

PKM - flapjack recipe looks yummy, I'll have a go at that this week.

Steep - hope all goes well, I seem to remember it being hard at first but you do adjust (and actually the adult company and chance to drink a hot cup of tea are very welcome too!)

We have had a lovely afternoon with friends round for a long lunch in the garden, a few glasses of wine and lots of chat. The children all played really well together and it was the sort of Summer afternoon that you wish we had the weather for every weekend.

So, it is left-overs for tea but I did save some baked raspberry cheesecake for the tearoom.

Steeplearningcurve · 31/07/2011 20:33

thanks beanandspud. I am quite excited at the idea of a whole day of adult conversation. Unfortunately I'm a bit if a control freak and fear I will spend all day biting my tongue about stuff thats been done while I was off! Blush

Sounds like you had a lovely afernoon. Hope this weather lasts.

GothAnneGeddes · 01/08/2011 02:51

Hello everyone and thank you the lovely welcome. Seeing as we're in Turkey I've brought some baklava (it's not just a Greek dish, promise Smile)

I have a 2.5 yr old dd. I appear to have developed some fertility issues (that's the non TMI way of putting it), so she may or may not be an only. I never imagined myself just having one child, and I've loved reading this board and finding out that a family of 3 can be very lovely. Thank so, so much.

Scout19075 · 01/08/2011 07:33

Morning all!

Tee2072 · 01/08/2011 08:37

Hi all!

My mom is still here and today we are going to clean out my closets! Do I know how to show a person a good time or what?!?! Grin

I hope all are well, welcome to any newbie I haven't welcomed.

::places Brew, pancakes, real maple syrup, crispy bacon and porridge on the sideboard::

I feel like a large breakfast today. Do I look like a large breakfast today? Hmm

mistlethrush · 01/08/2011 08:43

Morning!

Gothanne - we discovered we had 'issues' prior to DS arriving - so he kept us waiting 6 years with quite a bit of heartache along the way.

Have got back from Wales safely - didn't see Amber there though. I am pleased to say that mini was, in general, in very good form - only had to speak sternly to him once properly over the weekend which was good. I also got admiration at how long it didn't take to get him to go to bed and settle down. And he was doing things like me saying 'on purpose' and he immediately was saying 'deliberately' in the same sort of sentence which made me Grin (and put a few eyebrows up too!). We 'did' castles - Powys and Chirk - both good - Powys particularly if you like gardens - although this time mc really enjoyed the quiz - and was taking us back over some areas to look at things he'd missed because he was busy with the quiz (Shock) - Chirk is more of a properly defensive castle - and he loved the two people that were displaying armour and running 'training' for 'troops' (small people with sticks happily bashing the target). House was in idyllic location - sat on terrace you could hear the kingfishers on the river, nuthatches in the woods, there were buzzards overhead etc etc.

SLC - sympathies re the sleeping - and hope the start back to work goes well. I found cat napping really useful just to help catch up a tiny bit with the sleeping.

MaryBS · 01/08/2011 08:54

Lost this thread for a bit. Hi to everyone who is new, my name is Mary and have a lovely DH and 2 children (but don't hold that against me).

We went to Legoland on Saturday, had a lovely time and LOVED the new Nautilus ride :). I then decided to try to prove once and for all whether I have a food intolerance by having pizza. I ended up with stomach bloating (DH said I looked at least 6 months pregnant), and the next day stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Still feeling a little tender today, but I guess it goes to show something, whatever that something is...

I think I will have a piece of Turkish delight, to make me feel better :o

Hello, GothAnne. Our fertility ishoos (again, avoidance of TMI) were discovered before we had Girl, so by the time she arrived we were so mightily relieved and thrilled to have her that it settled most (although not quite all) of any wibbles we might have had about not having another. I hope you'll be able to overcome your fertility issues but if not then, as you say, life as a family of three is fun.

Mary - Tell me truthfully, what is Legoland like during the holidays? Girl is keen to go, having seen the ad for Nautilus on the telly, but will it all be a manic scrum?

::chews thoughtfully on a piece of Turkish delight::

MaryBS · 01/08/2011 12:13

Legoland is BUSY, no doubt about it. I've seen it busier, I must admit, but generally, unless you get on the popular rides early, then you are looking at about an hour's wait (in the past I've seen waits of up to 2 hours for rides!). One of the busiest rides is the boating school, but to be honest, that isn't worth queuing for. Because DS and I are on the autistic spectrum, we both qualify for "exit passes", which entitles us and up to 3 people each, to access the ride via the exit and thus not have to queue! The alternative if you really don't want to queue is to pay for Qbots, which are extortionate, but offer virtual queuing. We have annual passes which are worth having if you are likely to go more than once in a calendar year, and which give discounts on food and in the shops as well.

Hi again GothAnne! I'll avoid TMI too (to the huge relief of the entire Tea Room - about 15 Tea Rooms ago I was very prone to oversharing but have since stopped :o) - we have one because The Jack's birth was one of those train wrecks. I don't think im bothered by not having any more, for the most part I'm just glad he's ok and that I'm ok now. I'm the Tea Room's resident Canadian, from the West Coast near Vancouver. DH, The Jack and I are currently in Ontario though, driving to my parents' today. I'm so so so so looking forward to seeing them, the West Coast is wonderful but I miss them like crazy. Although I have to admit that this spring and summer I was tempted to move a few times, we've had the crappiest weather, hardly any sun, and seriously, about a ten-degree temperature difference between February and July Angry. So we're very happy to be in Ontario where it's boiling hot (but, being a picky cow, I'm going to say I could do without the humidity).

Turkish coffee, anyone?
