Turkish Tearoom? Turkish Bath? Anyway, a Turkish delight awaits...

Picture the scene...

From the edge of every terrace and every step hang brilliantly white stalactites, and you can hear the joyful splashing of the waters of the hot springs as they cascade down over slopes where their flow is impeded only by clumps of oleanders.

Nearby is an oasis of refreshments, in our Pamukkale residence, air conditioned and with white washed generously proportioned rooms, with Mellors at the ready, to offer Turkish Massage to anyone who wishes.

The NMBs are in their element, whereas the bishops seem to have found their speedoes again.

Priest's hole is at the back, in a quiet shaded area, stocked with What Car magazines, Turkish rugs and Turkish delight

Good choice Maud!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 21:08

Feel free to put your own choice of disc on the turntable! I'll put on one more while you get yours cued up.

Scout19075 · 29/08/2011 21:23

Just curious -- how much does a newborn baby have to weigh in the UK to be released from the hospital?

Been catching up on my FB updates and saw that one of my Guide friends has had her baby (yay for her!) but he's sooooo tiny and just over five pounds at birth. It seems so little to be released so quickly....

beanandspud · 29/08/2011 21:35

Not very good at links to music but here goes...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 21:56

That just gives me a list, Bean. What were you looking for?

Scout - I don't know, but several of Girl's contemporaries from antenatal class only weighed five and a bit pounds and went home immediately. It's low but not low, ITSWIM.

beanandspud · 29/08/2011 21:59

Maud - the joy of iPad and trying to copy/link. It should have been Joy Division - I heard it a little earlier and it made me smile.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 22:02

Joy Division made you smile? It normally makes me sob.

Scout19075 · 29/08/2011 22:12

I know what you mean, Maud. I guess knowing his weight and looking at the pictures (and perhaps, a bit wrongly, knowing the girl/the situation) I just think "really, he's sooooo little, surely a couple of days in the hospital would have been appropriate." I also forget that things are different here with the NHS. AND I was kept in longer than I wanted to be (precautions, really) so don't fully get how they could keep me in but kick others out so quickly.

beanandspud · 29/08/2011 22:15

I think it was the memories of student parties that made me smile...

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 29/08/2011 22:23

I think when Wriggle was born the limit was 5 pounds and a steady weight gain over 3 days. Wriggle was born at 3 lbs 15 oz but there were much smaller babies there.

UniS, roughly how big is PE bag?

Bean, I am struggling to think of any blue jobs in our house ... repairing the house ... cutting firewood .... . It's probably my fault; I see any contribution to the housework as a criticism, but it does tend to involve a lot of crashing and banging and placing of newly-washed floors off limits for the rest of the year.

Maud, do you have sound on your computer yet? Can you hear the music you are sharing?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 22:24

Yes, Scout, the NHS chucks people out as soon as they decently can. I was there for five days and lost count of the number of women I saw come and go.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 22:25

Yes, Serpent, and I have earphones which means I am sitting here bopping away to New Order.

mistlethrush · 29/08/2011 22:36

Evening

MC staying with my parents - so a week child-free (so lots of work and some tidying) did Bach B minor today though....

UniS · 29/08/2011 22:52

UnSerp- PE bag is about 25 cm each way, maybe a as big as 30 cm. Its JUST big enough for trainers, shorts, T shirt, socks and pants. When his feet are bigger he will need a bigger bag. It stays in school , only coming home in holidays up to year 3. Year 4 appear to be expected to "bring " PE kit on set days.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 23:05

I think Girl's bag is 30cm (or more) in each direction. It just about copes with t-shirt, shirts, tracksuit (in winter) and trainers. By about Y3 she was refusing to wear plimsolls (because nobody else did) and wanted trainers. The school also seesm to prefer them because they are more cushioned.

mistlethrush · 29/08/2011 23:25

So far, we've sent mc in bames kit on pe days, with school uni in school bag... this year we take it in at the beginning of the week and home on a Fri....

Thumbwitch · 30/08/2011 00:44

stick - we do get a full 4 seasons in the area I am in (NSW); in general everything is a little warmer than the UK but only by a few degrees in winter! It very rarely gets below 0degC for e.g. where we are; although quite a few places in NSW did go below and there was snow in some. We saw snow on the ground (very feeble scattering) in some areas not too far from us but none actually on us. Spring can go quite quickly, sadly - it can get hot far too quickly for my liking! Summer gets very hot, over 40deg seems normal these days but not for long, just the odd few days. Long blocks of days in the 30s though. Autumn is short and tends to still be warm - I miss the clear crisp Autumn days in the UK, tbh. And the long summer evenings! The latest the sun ever goes down here is ~8:30pm, and it goes fast - none of your lovely drawn out sunsets (although we do get some good colours)

Is Ab Fab really coming back? Whooeeeee! And now I can get BBC iplayer, I can actually see it (if someone would kindly let me know when it's been on, thank you very much)

MT - have a great week catching up on all those things you can't do when MC is around.

PE bags are outside of my remit just yet - but when I were a lass sometime in the dim and distant past, all our PE bags were homemade.

Blue jobs in this house - lawnmowing primarily. Because we have a petrol mower and I can't start it.Blush There are entirely too many seemingly pink jobs though...

Scout - boo to plans changing - I take it that means you won't be going to the USA anytime soon now?

Amber - Kew is lovely but very tiring, I find. I only have 1.5h walking in me before the sciatica kicks in so badly that I start to limp - and Kew defeated me! hope you had a lovely time.

amberlight · 30/08/2011 07:59

Scout, to be honest Kew's in the in-between bit...not a lot of summer colour left barring a few roses, but too early for autumn golds yet. But it's such a wonderful open space that it's always lovely. Feel fine this morning so think I got the balance right. Need to do a ton of walking to get my fitness up to maximum possible.

Ah I see Mellors has finished in the stables and is wrestling some further breakfast into submission. Splendid!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/08/2011 08:53
Tee2072 · 30/08/2011 08:57

Morning all.

Lovely disco!

Ack! Can a person buy a PE bag? I cannot sew very well. Confused

Scout I was actually kept in an extra day due the midwives being lovely and seeing if LCT would be out of SCBU by then so I could take him home. It wasn't to be. I got out on the Monday, after 4 days, he was in for another 5 days after that. I would have gone home after 3 days otherwise. That's with a CS.

The only real 'blue' job around here is taking out the trash. Mostly because I refuse to do it. Grin

CMOTdibbler · 30/08/2011 09:36

making PE bags is not compulsory Smile ds has an official school one, but we also have an embroidered one from ebay

Feeling wibbly today - my dad is having a biopsy of the nasty things in his mouth.

Thumbwitch · 30/08/2011 09:51

I hope they're nothing really serious, CMOTD. Fingers crossed for your Dad.

I was in hospital from Sunday to Thursday with miniThumb. Went in on Sunday to be induced, born early hours Tuesday morning, had to stay Tues and Weds night to make sure BF'ing was established. But those latter 2 nights were in a private room - I was half dressed and on my way out the door on the Tuesday afternoon because I had a stinking migraine from the heat and lack of food and sleep. Because I used to work in that hospital, they let me have a private room FOC. I was the only one on that corridor - no one else was using them! Made such a difference being able to open the window (yes in December, hospitals, especially mat wards, are waaaay too hot IMO) for some air and get peace at night.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 30/08/2011 11:49

Fingers crossed here too, Cmot.

mistlethrush · 30/08/2011 14:15

More positive vibes CMot

We have a standard shoe bag, I think its meant to contain rest of PE kit too probably.. will wait and see if it actually fits. I had an appliqued one for school - navy with my initials in green printed cotton - which I had a dress out of sometime before....

Going to have to go on Thurs and pick up some more bits of uniform as MC has sprouted in the holidays AGAIN Hmm He's grow 2" in 6 mo - which is quite a bit at 6 I feel.

I got 2 hrs sleep the 3rd night I was in hosp following emcs with mc - having had a night before he was born with no sleep too... Ward was too noisy until gone midnight - at which point Ds developed his first bit of colic - although the sister didn't say it was that and blamed me for feeding incorrectly etc - eventually he was taken from me at 2.30am but handed back still screaming at 4.30am..... Wish I'd gone home the day before really.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/08/2011 18:42

Very postive thoughts for CMOT.

Yes, you can buy PE bags, but I am saving hard. I have bought nearly all her school uniform second hand (£1 per item at most), apart from her PE shorts (nothing small enough in royal blue) and her book bag. I have bought a valence in royal blue from a charity shop today for £1, to sew a PE bag. She has been given shoes only slightly too big and I am hoping MIL will produce coat.

I win at staying in hospital after birth ... I was in for 5 weeks! Nothing wrong with me, but hospital policy was never to separate mothers and babies, so they found me a bed and meals for all that time. Actually, it was many different beds - or rather many different rooms. Sometimes I would come back for walking or shopping Blush to find all my possessions loaded up on my bed again and wheeled to another room. Then DH came to stay as well in the special family room for three days to see if Wriggle continued to put on weight when we were looking after her on our own, then they threw us out. I was very hard to dislodge after all that time!
