Picture the scene...

From the edge of every terrace and every step hang brilliantly white stalactites, and you can hear the joyful splashing of the waters of the hot springs as they cascade down over slopes where their flow is impeded only by clumps of oleanders.

Nearby is an oasis of refreshments, in our Pamukkale residence, air conditioned and with white washed generously proportioned rooms, with Mellors at the ready, to offer Turkish Massage to anyone who wishes.

The NMBs are in their element, whereas the bishops seem to have found their speedoes again.

Priest's hole is at the back, in a quiet shaded area, stocked with What Car magazines, Turkish rugs and Turkish delight

Boy had Marbles at 3. BUT he was not one for putting toys in his mouth. They got used for marble runs and loading up in trailers and being transported. At 4 he moved onto playing "marbles" with DH or I or on his own. Never worried me at all his having marbles in his bedroom ( they live in a bag when not all over the floor).

Prizes- we did win prizes. Thank you for asking. Boy won a box of chocs as best child model in the fashion ( craft workshops) show ( didn't win any categories as I had made/ helped lots make all his outfits) But his confidence on stage this year was SOOOO High, after last year when he did 2 categories and just scurried onto stage and off again, this year he was full of confidence, strolled down teh catwalk, did a "move" to the judges and strolled back again 4 or 5 times in different outfits.
Horticulturaly I'm now a 2nd / 3rd class gardener, got a good haul of 2nds and 3rds.With a highly commended for my T-shirt patchwork duvet cover. Boy won 2 firsts in kids classes and a 2nd in teh open Cup cake class. His purple fluffy iced coffee cakes with purple sprinkles, glittery green dinosaur sprinkles and jelly tot "eyes" seemed to be what teh judges were looking for??

So - who's for a cup cake with extra buttercream and a prize winning carrot or cucumber? Go lovely with your wine they will.

Well done, UniS and UniS's Boy. Grin

Tee2072 · 21/08/2011 21:24

I am very impressed UniS and UniS' Boy!

Not sure where this weekend went. WHOOSH and it was gone!

I hope everyone had a nice one.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 21/08/2011 21:26

Well done, UniS and Boy! Will just chop up prize-winning cucumber with some yogurt and garlic ...
Spent the day at the seaside today and Wriggle has learnt a new word; 'boring'. Sad I don't know where she learnt the word; she has never said it before and today was anything but boring!

amberlight · 21/08/2011 21:26

oh go on then - just one cup cake would be great.
hmm, still thinking about headboard situation - can the headboard itself be padded so the noise is muffled I wonder?

mistlethrush · 22/08/2011 09:13

Well done UniS! (Helicopter Tshirt has magically appeared - will post it). Boy's cup cakes sound just what MC would like too....

I am going violin shopping today - to see if the 2nd hand violin in the shop in town is any good for MC as he's grown out of his (a long way). Very luckily, we managed to sell it to a friend at the course - and because we've looked after it, we've not had much less than we paid for it which is excelent. And we also know what size MC will need - the size we thought won't do him for long, so we'll go for one on the large size.

Have been swimming with MC nearly every afternoon last week as school we took over for the music week had an outdoor pool, and lifeguard in attendance each afternoon. On Friday I decided to get back to head in the water swimming with MC - as he did it when he was doing his toddler lessons, but has forgotten since - so has been spending most of his time at a 45 degree angle so lots of effort to get anywhere.... So we blew bubbles with our faces in the water then came up for a breath. He then did a width of the pool like that - we then did a length of the pool like that - and later did another. No crafty foot on the floor in the shallow end, decent speed (still doggy paddle... but fast!) so swimming has definitely made progress!

Back to normality now...

Happy Birthday to you, amber!

UniS · 22/08/2011 12:05

Hurrah for birthday bunting and cakes. Well done on surviving this last year Amber.

::UniS raises her Brew in a toast::
Heres to many more birthdays to come.

mistlethrush · 22/08/2011 13:55

Brew for Amber - and perhaps a glass or two of Wine later, even if only the tearoom variety.

That takes care of the party snacks/drinks!

Scout - funny you should ask that, when DH and I were in Sydney meeting up with my friends from the UK who came over at Christmas/New Year, we went past an "archaeological site" - which was around 200 years old (Ancient for Sydney!) and I quietly PMSL to myself. It isn't at all funny really but when you're used to archaelogical sites from Roman times, or houses still standing from Tudor times (Dorney, near Eton is a very good place to see these) then 200y is really nothing. But it is to Australians so I wouldn't take the mick in their hearing.

Re. the headboard problem - have you an old duvet that you can fold up and put behind it? That might help with the noise.

UniS - well done for your haul! And congrats to Boy as well. :)

Minithumb has no toys in his room really. All his toys are in the living room (much bigger space) - he has a bookcase and books in his room but toys are all out in the main living area so marbles might end up on this floor which would be Very Bad. Especially as it is wooden floorboards.

Can I just please extol the virtues of lavender oil for burns? I burnt the first two fingers on my R hand this evening through utter stupidity - had the gas ring on for a minute to melt the fat in the fryingpan before washing it and didn't realise how long it would stay hot, so when I was cleaning the hob I knocked it off then went to put it back in place - ouch! Instant ice and lavender oil --> no blister. I kept the ice on until the cubes had completely melted; the first time the blisters started to show through after half an hour so I did it again = blisters all gone. :)

Thumbwitch · 22/08/2011 14:10

Mistle - when did MC start playing violin? Does he enjoy it? I would like to get DS onto a small string instrument at ~4, but was thinking ukulele (very popular over here) so he can pretend to play guitar alongside MrThumb. Or perhaps just go straight for mini guitar, not sure.

mistlethrush · 22/08/2011 14:37

MC got a violin when he was 2.5 (don't laugh - its what we 'do' !!!) and he was very happy playing it with the children's group on our music course... This year he has taken it out on his own a few times - but we've just not really had enough time to practise properly (by which I mean 5 - 10 mins playing per day) - but we're going to try to do some before school - so will get something so I can hang it up on the wall with a hook beside for the bow - and we'll go from there.

Tried a violin I think will be fine this lunchtime - looks awful compared to the new shiny ones - but sounds nicer even with really awful strings. Unfortnately the violin person wasn't in - even though I said I wanted to go in and play it - and will need to go back and discuss things....

Uke - good idea - mc can play a chord - although more will actually take a bit more practise!!! DH enjoying his (more expensive, but still not too bad) - I think this is probably a better idea than guitar to start with - chords much easier.

Thumbwitch · 22/08/2011 14:38

So, we'll be spending the evening looking for twiglets in a hay stack?

amberlight · 22/08/2011 16:33

We will indeed Grin

mistlethrush · 22/08/2011 16:34

At least it makes a change from needles... probably a lot easier to find too Grin

UniS · 22/08/2011 17:35

fab new tea room game. Twiglets in a haystack, much tastier than needles. yum yum, I found one.

beanandspud · 22/08/2011 19:08

Happy Birthday Amber!!!

Will be back later with bubbly and more snacks...

Tee2072 · 22/08/2011 19:17

Happy birthday Amber!

::swan dives into haystack to find twiglets::

DontCallMeBaby · 22/08/2011 19:28

Saw this and thought of you lot. Search in page for 'gardener'. OMG SOMEONE HAS STOLEN MELLORS!!!

Scout19075 · 22/08/2011 19:50

Please, someone sit on me before I go upstairs and shout at TS for kicking. I try not to go up (the more I go up the more he does it) but when I do it's usually because I've gone beyond my breaking point and I sorta shout (which doesn't do any of us any good and TS thinks it's funny). But I can't take the kicking tonight!

How does he go from falling asleep on my lap to kicking his headboard non-stop in about 45 seconds?

mistlethrush · 22/08/2011 20:05

MC does the odd thump on the wall... but I think its accidental, not on purpose. Apart from padding things around, don't know what to suggest.

Wine in celebration of finding twiglets Amber's birthday?
