Turkish Tearoom? Turkish Bath? Anyway, a Turkish delight awaits...

Picture the scene...

From the edge of every terrace and every step hang brilliantly white stalactites, and you can hear the joyful splashing of the waters of the hot springs as they cascade down over slopes where their flow is impeded only by clumps of oleanders.

Nearby is an oasis of refreshments, in our Pamukkale residence, air conditioned and with white washed generously proportioned rooms, with Mellors at the ready, to offer Turkish Massage to anyone who wishes.

The NMBs are in their element, whereas the bishops seem to have found their speedoes again.

Priest's hole is at the back, in a quiet shaded area, stocked with What Car magazines, Turkish rugs and Turkish delight

I used to go weekly but for circuit training with my rowing club. Never been into the instruments of torture machine room on my own though; I'm too easily embarrassed. I'd go in a group if I could find other people to go with me - friends in playgroup keep saying it's a good idea but somehow none of us ever get round to actually organising it...

Steeplearningcurve · 03/08/2011 16:49

Thunbwitch- the gym I go to is a small family run one rather than part of a chain and I chose it cos they give a lot of support. When I started an instructor went through the machines and wrote all the settings down with me, and also helped on my second visit. Found this really helped as it's so embarrassing looking like you don't know what you're doing!

Scout- sorry to hear your son isn't well, hope he feels better soon

mistlethrush · 03/08/2011 16:55

I saw on another thread that you're coping on your own slc - I take my hat off to you!

Steeplearningcurve · 03/08/2011 17:01

Thanks mistlethrush, I'm lucky that I have lots of help from my mum.

Have been a bit down but trying to focus on the positives of it being just the two of us, at least I get to make all the decisions!

mistlethrush · 03/08/2011 17:16

I wish my parents lived a bit closer - 3.5hrs is a long way. And sometimes mums are better at helping than DH's. Having said that, DH and I equally shared the colic hell early on - I went to bed at 9pm and he woke me at 1 and we swaped until ds eventually stopped at 4 or 5am.... luckily we sorted that out to some extent at least!

I can understand the feeling that you've got to look good - however, don't make yourself feel ill etc about it - its much more important that he sees you and dd as a happy, contented family unit, completely capable of coping on your own without him. I don't think I'll go any further down that route in the tearoom though!

Put your feet up, have a slice of barabrith and a Brew!

beanandspud · 03/08/2011 20:54

Scout - hope that TS is feeling better. It's hard knowing that something's not right but not knowing exactly what. I frequently book appointments for "Small Bean... I mean my little boy... I mean my son..."

Steep - I too take my hat off to you, it must be hard but, as you said, you have your mum for support. I'm with MT though, please look after yourself.

I used to have gym membership - I even used to go regularly!! ::wistful look::
I think I went once about 6 months after Small Bean arrived and I realised that I had just paid the best part of £200 to sit in a sauna!!! Gym membership cancelled.

Catitainahatita · 03/08/2011 20:55

Can't stop, but just wanted to add that I second MT's post SLC. You and your DD are the most important thing; your health and happiness is important. Go to the gym if it makes you feel better, that's all. If it doesn't (and after 12 weeks it probably even hurt); please don't go again until you are more recovered. Pregnancy and childbirth are extremely traumatic things to go through.
If it's TLC you need, this is the place.

beanandspud · 03/08/2011 20:57

Mistle - Just curious really about whether there were any Tearoomers in the North. I'd always assumed that everyone was overseas or in the South. Has there ever been a Northern Tearoom meetup?

Good news about MC's swimming lessons though - you have also reminded me to do something about booking some for Small Bean!!

AandO · 03/08/2011 21:04

Hi, I'll read back in a mo. Been off the computer for a few days. I was reading Sarah Waters The Fingersmith, and could not put it down! Then my mom arrived from the US.

Hope everyone is well x

Steeplearningcurve · 03/08/2011 21:11

Thank you all for being so nice!

Catitainahatita -I will head for the massage table now!

Mistlethrush- glad you survived the colic stage, always sounds horrendous.

Steeplearningcurve · 03/08/2011 21:13

AandO- hi, I'm new but had to agree with you about Fingersmith being impossible to put down!

purpleknittingmum · 03/08/2011 21:42

Hello all! Totally exhausted! Went to Leamington and Warwick today, I used to live there about 20 years ago, boiling hot day!

Scout19075 · 03/08/2011 23:14

Just made my (first?) batch of Christmas Pudding Vodka. Must remember to stir/shake it daily. MrScout says it looks like what TS did in the bath last night. Shock Will admit it's not nice looking at the moment -- hopefully it will be nicer looking when I strain the fruit out next week.

At least my hands smell nice -- orangy!

Something definitely up with TS. He spent most of the day on my lap or MrScout's. Poor lad. He did get a cool bath before bed tonight, so two plays in water in one day made him VERY happy. Oh, and standing in the rain with MrScout -- he likes doing that.

Tomorrow's Nan's funeral. Sad I'm not looking forward to it.

stickwithit · 03/08/2011 23:57

Poor TS hope he feels better very soon. Vodka sounds very exciting, when will you be able to sample it?

Have decided to take DS shopping for his first school uniform tomorrow. He is ready for school but I am not, he still feels like my baby [pathetic emoticon] must pull myself together.

Steep, I third MT and Cat's posts and send you a forbidden hug.

I am based in the East midlands. My Southern friends think I am a Northener, and my Nothern friends think I am a Southener. I like to insist I am neither and try to opt out of their North / South debates.

stickwithit · 03/08/2011 23:58

Sorry typo- Northern.

Thumbwitch · 04/08/2011 00:42

Scout - hope tomorrow goes as well as these things do, i.e. without a hitch (or the bearers nearly dropping the coffin as one tripped over a corner of the edging around the grave, like happened with my Nanna - thank goodness he didn't actually fall)
Hope TS is better by then too.

Vodka sounds interesting - you might have to get some kind of clarification stuff for it to stop it being cloudy, they use isinglass in beer and wine but you might be able to get something made out of different materials now.

Stick - hope the school uniform shopping doesn't upset you too much! Wink

SLC - you do need to take it easy - your collagen won't have strengthened up completely yet so you are at slightly more risk of damaging your joints/ muscles if you overdo it at this stage. More admiration from 10,500 miles away for doing it by yourself - even with Mum's help.

Tee2072 · 04/08/2011 07:39

Hi Gang.

Sorry I've not been around. Manic busy with mom here. She left this morning amid much tears all the way around. I hate that she lives so far away. So does she. But I am not willing to live in Florida and she's not willing to live in Belfast!

I'll try to catch up with everyone today!

Brew?

stickwithit · 04/08/2011 09:40

[tea] would be lovely, thank you.

Scout, thinking of you today.

Tee, having your mum so far away sounds tough. Do you ever visit her in Florida? Hope you have a nice day today to cheer you up after your goodbyes.

I have a day off today but unfortunately the lovely weather has gone. Think we will do some 'house admin', school uniform shopping and have a go at making dome playdough.

stickwithit · 04/08/2011 09:42

Sorry, still getting to grips with new phone. I mean some not dome.

beanandspud · 04/08/2011 10:11

More Brew for those in need!

Stick - I can't even begin to think about the day next year that my 'baby' needs school uniform. Good luck with the shopping!

Scout - I will be thinking of you. Hope it's as ok as these things can be.

Tee - That visit seems to have flown by - I bet LCT has loved having his Granny there. Have you got a next visit planned?

Scout19075 · 04/08/2011 10:41

Oh dear. I seem to have woken up with a dodgy tummy. MrScout just said he doesn't feel great but can't tell me what's wrong. And TS, in two "pushes" has overflowed his nappy (he was only wearing a nappy as we were getting ready to shower/dress him) and we have a brown stain on our carpet near the toilet (this is why I don't understand carpets in British bathrooms -- urgh!). I don't think we should go today but MrScout is insisting we do. Fortunately TS seems in good form and full of beans except for his nappy issue....

Thankfully I have a nearly full pack of diapers in the car from camp and I plan on taking more changes of clothes than usual for the young one.

It's going to be a long day, I expect.

Scout19075 · 04/08/2011 10:41

Oh dear, sorry for the self-centered whiney post. I'm a bit stressy.

CMOTdibbler · 04/08/2011 11:00

I wouldn't go today Scout - sounds like you might all be coming down with something.

Stick - I am W Midlands, but feel Southern - but we are only just into the Midlands tbh

DS v excited today - holiday club are going on an outing to a farm park, and we had a mini digger delivered this morning for the landscaping of the garden which is small boy heaven

Am thinking of making scones later in my lunch break, so will pop back with some

beanandspud · 04/08/2011 11:32

CMOT - I have couriered Small Bean down to you to help with mini-digging!

Scout19075 · 04/08/2011 11:39

MrScout and I seem to think for us it was dodgy chinese take-away last night -- he said he's felt the same way before, the day after having a take-away from there. Don't think we'll be going there again. I feel a lot better after showering and MrScout's clearing up the bathroom.
