To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

OMG OMG OMG!

MrScout told me what the job would be in the States and who the client is and he's doing his CV for it. (He's a consultant, but is employed by a company who hires him out, so for every new project/client they need a new CV.) I SOOOOO hope this means he's going for it and we can go!!!

(Stupidly excited again. Must calm down!)

amberlight · 15/07/2011 18:43

Well! The Bishops have nicked the rest of the lewd rolls, I see Hmm !

Scout, enjoy that excitement!! It could happen...

Thumb, how are you feeling now?

Scout19075 · 15/07/2011 18:54

CVs tend not to get done/submitted unless the company and/or the client/project really want you on the team for the project.....

I really shouldn't get excited because if I do and it doesn't happen I'll be crushed.

How are you, amber?

How's MiniThumb feeling now he's got meds?

Silly question -- how old were your children when they had their first hair cut? TS really needs his cut as the front bit is in his eyes and starting to irritate him but I love the curls in the back and know they'll go when he has a cut.... That, and I know when he has his first cut he'll be a proper boy, not a baby, and I'm not sure I'm ready for that! I really should get it done before we head to camp next weekend so I don't have to worry (as much) about gross things getting in his hair/head when I can't give him a proper bath/shower but....but.... the emotional side doesn't want to. I need someone to hold my hand, I think.

CMOTdibbler · 15/07/2011 19:36

Serpent, I would really like to meet up - I will pm you to try and sort out some details - have been a bit distracted this week as dfather had to go to the hospital about something nasty in his mouth and I wasn't there to take him. The opinion is that it isn't malignant, but they don'y know what it is.

I am v v tired - 10 hours in a middle seat in economy isn't great for sleeping !

UniS · 15/07/2011 19:40

SYmpathy CMOT.
Scout- TS will look adorable with short hair too.

after the tea rooms recent canter on vegetarian issues.... do vegans eat foods made with live yeast? bread, beer etc? NO urgency, I'm just wondering.

A question for you ladies. I really really dislike being called hun or hon. Should I say anything to those friends who call me hun? Fortunately it doesn't happen too often, but it really does make my flesh crawl!

Scout19075 · 15/07/2011 20:02

Oh, I sympathize Mary, I hate hun/hon too. Is it a regional thing with your friends? (I know some friends from other parts of the country seem to use it more than others.) I fear, since I don't necessarily like confrontation (unless I'm really fired up that is!) I'd probably not say anything since it doesn't happen often.

CMOTdibbler · 15/07/2011 20:10

I don't think saying anything would be productive tbh. I don't like it either though.

I think vegans do consume yeast.

MaryBS · 15/07/2011 20:10

They're both friends from another part of the country, but living locally. Its not a regional thing here. In fact, growing up "duck" was the endearment of choice :o

Scout19075 · 15/07/2011 20:20

My MiL (and NiL) use "duck" but they're originally from Luton. Took me ages to a. figure out what they were actually saying and b. to realize it's a regional term of affection. Once I figured it out it stopped bugging me. However, they're the only two I really take it from (from anyone else it makes me a bit Hmm).

Puts jelly on the side table

MaryBS · 15/07/2011 21:02

oooooo pwitty jellies! Look too good to eat!

I come from Lincolnshire originally

Scout19075 · 15/07/2011 21:38

Waiting for MrScout to get home so watching cheesie tv -- this boy singing Whitney Houston on America's Got Talent is freaking me out. I don't like it.....

beanandspud · 15/07/2011 21:43

::Dumps bags, looks sadly at pile of dirty washing and opens bottle of cava::

Good evening!

We got back this afternoon and had a really lovely week away. Small Bean has had a ball - he has completely astonished us with the things he wants to do, the things he has eaten (octopus, calamari, olives, mussels...) and just the way he has behaved.

I have had a few 'emotional' moments though - my little boy is growing up and now thinks he can swim on his own, sleeps in a single bed rather than a travel cot, and has more confidence than I ever had at that age. Mr Bean and I also had quite a lot of chats about what holidays might look like in the future - we have loved having him to ourselves but we wonder how soon it will be before our company isn't enough and he wants to be with other children the same age. In a funny sort of way it really hit home that he will be an 'only'.

Am just skimming through and catching up...

Scout - that sound like good news - both healthwise and Mr Scout's job - I hope it happens for you; Tee - I hope you are feeling better; Mary BS - I was brought up in the same part of the country and recognise the expressions (FWIW I just smile sweetly and ignore the huns/ducks/loves etc.).

Tee2072 · 15/07/2011 21:46

Evening all.

I am feeling a bit better, thanks all.

Scout - LCT was just over 1 when he first had his cut and now has it done every month or two. He has daddy's hair colour but mummy's rate of growth! He hates it and cries every time. sniff And I always miss his curls!

beanandspud · 15/07/2011 21:52

Scout - Small Bean was about 18 months when he had his first hair cut. He has mad, wavy hair like mine (that grows an inch overnight) and whilst I hated having his curls cut off it makes bathtime a lot easier!

Catitainahatita · 15/07/2011 23:21

Kittenito has had a almost shaved head since he was 1. He does have three crowns and if his hair grows longer than an inch or so it just sticks up.

Scout19075 · 15/07/2011 23:25

Good night, lovely tea room ladies.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 15/07/2011 23:40

Good night, Scout!

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 16/07/2011 00:36

I am not good at remembering ages, but miniT had his first haircut when his fringe was starting to go in his eyes, so about now then Scout! [hsmile] His hair doesn't grow very quickly though so it gets cut about every 3m or so.

Mary - I don't really think there's much you can do without upsetting them - I have two lovely friends who call me hun or even hunni, but they are so lovely I'd hate to hurt their feelings by telling them that I wince. I don't mind terms of endearment like duck, chick, love etc, - I grew up with them and they don't bother me; but the mis-spell of Honey (which I didn't grow up with) grates.

Bean - Small Bean (Sprout? Wink) sounds like miniThumb, he eats all sorts of things! But he veers between thinking he can do everything and not being able to do anything "cos he's too little, mummy". Hmm

CMOTD - sounds horrible, hope you get some decent sleep

Amber, Scout - thanks for asking - miniThumb seems a lot better now because he has passed the mantle of the "thing" to me. I now have blocked sinuses and bronchial cough - oh joy. He slept through last night with no coughing at all - yay! I just have to be good and continue with his meds until the course is done though, to make sure that he clears it properly (and doesn't re-catch it from me!)

amberlight · 16/07/2011 08:31

Yup, vegans can eat live yeast as it's a mushroomy thing and that's ok.
Tee, good to hear you're feeling a bit better. Me too after yesterday's medical situation re heart.

Bean, yup, odd sensation when they start to get independent.

::ponders her now adult son, touring Europe with his harem::

Thumb, are you feeling any better?

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 16/07/2011 08:49

Have had an utterly lazy slobby day today and am feeling a bit more the thing, but still coughing up a storm. Have just had a pleasant nip of port to try and lubricate the ol' pipes but sadly it's a tawny and not a ruby (better lubrication in a ruby). Hey ho. Hope it doesn't last too long!

ummmm - medical situation re. heart?? wassat all about then? ShockConfused

amberlight · 16/07/2011 09:22

heart rate raised for several days - sometimes docetaxel damages heart - sent to doc for once-over - he's recommending blood tests etc in case it's just anaemia - feel better today so probably just is heart fed up with being poisoned every 3 weeks

beanandspud · 16/07/2011 09:59

Amber - sorry to hear about heart thing Brew? Are the chemistry experiments over? Not sure if I have missed something but hope you're ok.

amberlight · 16/07/2011 10:33

Yes please, Brew would be appreciated. (One more major chemo to go. Then surgery. Then another year of chemo-wonderdrug herceptin. I think I'm ok. I get through my imagining that I'm absolutely fine, which works fairly well).

Tee2072 · 16/07/2011 12:48

Did someone say Brew?!?!

I hope you are feeling better Amber.

BEAN! Heads up! Apprentice on tomorrow night at 9 for a the 2 hour final!!!!!!!

Apologies for interrupting the tea room but that was very very important information!

Have to go wake LCT from his nap. Then I think I'll have a nap after he's up while MrTee feeds LCT his lunch. I'm being a lazy thing who is lazy today!
