The One and Only Tea Room - Now Hanging in Babylon

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/05/2011 23:57

Well folks, here we are, transported through time and space to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Golden couches and the distressed chintz sofa are arranged on a terrace overlooking the Euphrates and, as we recline on the exquisitely-soft cushions eating peeled grapes, we can enjoy the warm fragrance of the gardens' many exotic blooms. The garden is tended by the indefatigable Mellors, with occasional help from the bishops, rabbis and any passing world leaders. Somewhere behind the terrace there is an aga and a priest's hole, with optional massage table.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly.

After all that indulgence last night... I think a full English is called for... anyone care to join me?

amberlight · 14/06/2011 07:58

Yes please for the full English, Mary! Some sustenance for today's chemistry lesson would be good.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/06/2011 10:44

Morning all!

It seems like a very civilised barbecue to me.

::Ignores Oxeye's lewd innuendo and the unconscious bodies slumped in the shrubbery::

More hands to hold here if Amber wants them.

amberlight · 14/06/2011 10:44

Thanks! Prepare to have frozen hands, though - as mine will be in the freezer mitts to stop the chemo affecting my fingers and nails. Great fun!! Grin

::lends help to the clear-up crew::

MaryBS · 14/06/2011 10:50

How does it affect your fingers and nails then, Amber, if I may ask???

Brunch anyone?

amberlight · 14/06/2011 11:02

('cos it stops the body producing new cells for a while. Bodies recover from it, cancer doesn't. Thus the cells that grow your nails can't grow your nails any more and you end up with nail problems. Or nerve problems in your fingers as a side effect. Or both. But if you cool them, the blood supply can't really get to those bits and the chemo doesn't stop the cells working. All very scientific)

beanandspud · 14/06/2011 11:44

Good morning all!

I'm sorry I missed the barbecue, are there any of those mis-shapen burgers left over?

Will be away for a couple of days as I am going over to see my little sis and my new nephew (8 weeks old) so not sure whether I will have internet. I'm leaving the boys here (Small Bean and Mr Bean) so who knows what chaos I will come back to.

Amber - I do hope the chemistry lesson goes ok.

Tee - hope LCT begins to feel better.

Will we be in a new tea room when I get back? Please leave me some directions!

Jacksmania · 14/06/2011 14:18

Good morning tearoom (morning here). Again sorry for absence - had stuff going on, also some disenchantment with MN in general. Is it just me or has it really not been the nicest place lately? I had some trouble with the "words on a screen" thread... I'm probably just being stupid and oversensitive as usual but I really had a problem with the thought that some people whom I've poured my heart out really just think of me as words on a screen and don't give a hoot about the person who's writing and reading those words... turned me right off for a while. I still look at MN differently and that makes me a little sad... I used to post much more but now I pretty much only lurk (or stay away entirely) and am rarely tempted to post (mostly because someone else has already said what I wanted to so why bother). Also the general tone of MN seems to be a bit more aggressive lately... not my cup of tea...
Speaking of which, is there anything caffeinated going?

So, busy in JM Land, stuff, things, you know, the usual daily crap but nothing to worry about and I won't bore you with details. My mum is here visiting and I'm taking a little holiday from work. DH is in California for 3 weeks on a course Sad but JB and I are going to visit him next Weds for a few days Smile. He's in Santa Monica where we were last year (he was also on a course then) and I loved it there so we're all very excited. It's, as usual, lovely to have my mum here and, as usual, she has been spoiling me rotten Grin.
How is everyone? ((((HUGS)))) to all (in case you've forgotten JM's hugs).

Jacksmania · 14/06/2011 14:29

Just read back a bit - Catita - best of luck re job!!! Sad for you re friend's wedding, it's hard to feel left behind. And I so hope you can get away - as useless as it is, I worry about you because we hear a fair bit about the troubles in Mexico on the news. I don't actually tend to watch the news as I find most of it frightening and depressing but I have DH trained to come get me when there's anything on about Mexico or at least to tell me what was said. He once was telling me about a longish report and I got that impatient get-on-with-it look on my face and he said, "shall I condense it into bullet form?"... and hastily added "sorry, bad choice of words Blush". Um, yeah... but we did laugh (sorry).

Amber - you constantly awe and amaze me with your wonderful attitude to everything you have to face. Your posts on the other page always make me smile. Smile

(((HUGS))) and support to everyone else who's dealing with stuff.

mistlethrush · 14/06/2011 14:45

JM - I know what you mean - however there have been some chinks of light too - like the way people waded onto a thread which seemed to suggest that all male nursery nurses were paedophiles - else why would they be doing the job. And I have also seen a thread which said something to the effect of 'but they're not just words on a page'.

I certainly didn't feel as if they are just words on a page here - and there have been other threads that I have felt similarly.

Amber - glad they'r elooking after you well. You never know, soon they might be putting people in icehelmets too... Grin I heard a radio programme in the not too distant past about a new treatment for brain tumours where they inject the tumour with specially shaped microscopically small metal bits - and then subject them to a changing magnetic current - which makes the metal bits shift backwards and forwards as they are magnetic - and heats the tumour - but doesn't heat the surrounding area Shock Still in test by the sound of it - but still Shock

Long meeting this morning - feel like being in the garden not the office.

amberlight · 14/06/2011 15:29

I'm back! It went brilliantly and I feel absolutely fine! How weird is this?!

But it calls for a nice cup of Brew and a share of my ginger biscuits I think.

MT, if it got into my brain, no-one would be able to tell the difference Grin but yes, very interesting research.

JM, having had a few days of bunfight on threads on MN, I know what you mean. Good job there are supportive corners occupied by marvellous people, like this one.

Scout19075 · 14/06/2011 17:13

Bacon infused vodka -- discuss.

mistlethrush · 14/06/2011 17:14

Glad it went well Amber!

Sometimes its nice to come back to sanity, although I do poke my head out every now and then. Thumbwitch is much braver than me though Blush

mistlethrush · 14/06/2011 17:15

Scout - no thanks. Grin

Fruit infused - possibly.

Scout19075 · 14/06/2011 17:19

Glad things are positive, amber! Brew?

Still loving my goodies! Saw a T.J. bag in a car today and thought of you!!

Fingers crossed, Cat.

I tend to stay away from the bun fights. To be honest they bore me/I don't have the attention span to get involved. There are people behind the screen -- that's assuming, of course, the cat hasn't worked out how to use the mouse. Wink But seriously, I tend to stick to long-running threads (like the tea room or the Guiders room) or look at subjects such as arts & crafts, education, etc. AIBU is scary!

amberlight · 14/06/2011 17:25

Oh yes please for a Brew. More of the dark choc ginger thins here if anyone's interested.

Bacon infused vodka sounds tempting. I'm not sure why.

Scout19075 · 14/06/2011 17:26

Am going to make some fruit fused vodka but came across recipe/instructions for bacon vodka. Not sure if it's brilliant or gross. And which bacon do you use?

Scout19075 · 14/06/2011 17:28

Just have to say, FB is fun to check out how exes have aged/grown up. I shouldn't, and I don't have many exes/crushes to stalk, but I did and it gave me a chuckle.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/06/2011 17:33

::Waves at JM::

I know where you're coming from. What changed my view of MN was that thread where the regular tea roomers were told off for spending our time in here ogling Mellors when we should be out and about, counselling others. That annoyed me for many reasons - I'm not a trained counsellor, I don't have any insight to give that many other people couldn't offer too, and I also suspect that if any of us here were to swan about saying "we're the tea-roomers and we have the answer to everything" we'd soon (rightly) be shot down in flames. It made me realise too that although I'm happy for people to know about our journey towards being a one child family, I'm also rather tired of going onto threads and trotting it all out yet again.

So now, I mostly post on here or on silly threads. I have been doing some serious stuff elsewhere but have decided to give that up because it's too time-consuming and it's too annoying when you spend half an hour writing something for someone who doesn't even acknowledge it or say thanks.

Phew. Anyone want a Brew?

Scout19075 · 14/06/2011 17:39

May I have my Brew to go, Maud? We're off to Guides soon but meeting with my Senior girlies first.
