Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

I did find the comments on television that they were re-writing history odd. They weren't re-writing it - not changing what has happened at all! They may have made new history, and set new precedents.

Or am I just over-literal?

(I often find that I take literally what was never meant to be literal..... Drives Donki's husband up the wall at times)

U5 · 29/04/2011 22:53

busy work day. managed to watch a little of royals arriving at church. Just so I knew what teh frock looked like for chat in pub/ tea room of course. work was decked out in bunting. After 12+ hours on my feet I've had amuch needed bath. Off to read some of Howls moving castle.

Have a cup cake on me, they have Red white and blue sprinkles. If you wait long enough teh NMBs will re arrange teh sprinkles into , first a Union flag and then ( for Tee and Scout) a stars n stripes. Other flags are available on request.

Milk went to school and I went to a lovely hat party!!! We got very excited and giggly, drank tea and ate lots and lots of food someone had bought at Marks and Spencers. : )

Milk spent the whole day at school doing wedding things. Watching it, colouring in pictures of William and Kate with yellow lips and orange hair and most exciting of all she made a flag.

"Look what I have got Mummy!!! (waves flag in the style of a crazy Granny) I made it to go WAAAAAHOOOO Kate WAAAAAAAHHHHHOOOOOO William". Grin

On the way home she starting crying "But... Mummy, why did William and Kate ask you to go to their wedding and not me?" - It turned out that she had thought the Mummy's hat party I had attended was the actual wedding ShockGrin

Now I have this image of her ABSOLUTELY insisting to her teacher that I was attending the wedding in my dusty hat, t-shirt and jeans... Blush

U5 · 29/04/2011 23:13

boy went to local street party. and managed to throw up :-)

teafortwo · 29/04/2011 23:24

AND.... Just to round up the Milk take on the wedding... When we went for our Friday night drink and chat in a cafe Milk explained:

"When I grow up I don't want to marry X anymore (boy she has loved since Christmas, sobbed over, sent a valentines card to and refers to as "my dearest daaaahrling while pouting in the mirror") because he wants to be a pig farmer. I am going to marry Y because he wants to be a Prince just like William."

U5 - eeeewwww... too much wedding cake or poorly sick??? Sad

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 29/04/2011 23:30

Yes, watched the first bit with Wriggle as guests arrived. "But Mummy, when are we going to get there?" Was beautifully dressed as a princess wearing pearls but then demanded to change into trousers and go and watch Papa on the minidigger - far more fun if she wasn't actually attending in person.

Wonder if all French schools took as much interest as Milk's school?

Have just finished The Pinhoe Egg.

Scout19075 · 30/04/2011 09:23

(Does anyone have any tips for getting a toddler to stand straight up next to a door or wall? I keep being asked how tall he is but can't get to a HV weigh clinic for a few more weeks to ask them to do it. I have an approximate but I'm convinced he's a bit taller than what I've marked he is.)

DutchOma · 30/04/2011 12:19

Do it yourself and get a third person to make the markings for you.

beanandspud · 30/04/2011 12:56

Will he lie flat on the floor with his feet against the wall and then use a book against the top of his head as a marker?

OnesDigitusPrimusMagicalis · 30/04/2011 15:33

Afternoon all - will have to read back properly later as it is Very Late here and I should be in bed. We took an extra day going over the mountains and had to hotfoot it back home today so I could go out singing this evening in an informal concert thingy. MrThumb and miniThumb were too tired to come with, so I stayed out late and am now on the last dregs of my stamina.

Am coming home in May - see Other Place for a suggestion of how at least one afternoon could be spent [cgrin]

(Will remember to retire this name shortly but not just now...)

amberlight · 30/04/2011 17:11

suggestion made...

U5 · 30/04/2011 22:09

LOL at milk and her ambitious wedding plans.

Boy probably poorly sick, just a little. He threw up in bed this morning as well, and ran a high temp on Wednesday night... seems he has a virus of some sort as this is pretty typical of him , he'll get a rash next...

Toby Buckland gave me a tomato plant today.

Measuring toddlers. Stood up by door frame, lower a LARGE book down the frame till it touches their head AND is still firmly against teh wall on one long edge. 2nd person hold book or makes mark for measure to be taken from. Would work with laid down tot too.

Rats I can;t seem to get rid of this name change.

Waves, it's me, you know, the one who can't spell "the" properly.

Tee2072 · 01/05/2011 07:45

Morning.

4th night in a row LCT has slept in his own bed. Grin The only problem now is that MrTee and I are back sleeping in the same bed and he takes up a lot more room than LCT. Although the snoring is about the same. Grin

Wish I could meet up with y'all.

Scout19075 · 01/05/2011 08:05

To any former or current Guides out there, can you think of any songs that have the words prince/s and/or princess/es in them?

amberlight · 01/05/2011 09:41
That's the only one I've come across...

Breakfast is available on the balcony, where there's a gondolier contest of some description taking place on the canal. I see Mellors has entered the Tea Room Yacht in the Novelty class...

teafortwo · 01/05/2011 10:15

Probably far too racy - but OH how I loved and still do this song...

teafortwo · 01/05/2011 10:19

Love the breaky - hey Ambs, this IS the LIFE!!! [smug smile]

I am sooooo excited it seems that the tea household are going to Amsterdam!!!!! Any one been? Tips please...

It was all Milk's idea... based on the fact she likes the song "Tulips from Amsterdam".

Grin
OnesDigitusPrimusMagicalis · 01/05/2011 11:21

Amsterdam, no sorry, never been there and I don't think you'd really want MrThumb's recommendations [cgrin][cblush]
Although I know the Van Gogh museum is there and worth a visit, don't know anything else about it!

Tee - having just spent 3 nights away with MrT and miniT, I can categorically say that sleeping in a double with miniT is far easier than anything else. He DID get very excited when he saw the single bed and said "my bed?" so I got very excited in turn, thinking this was the start of him sleeping on his own... sooooo wrong. [csad] Ended up pushing the single bed against the double, so we had a triple bed [cshock] - and I had terrible sleep until the last night when we couldn't do it, so MrT took the single bed and we had the double and finally had a decent night.

US - poor Boy, hope he gets better soon!

I have to see the dentist tomorrow to get my filling fixed up - it's been broken for over a week now (broke on the Easter weekend) and I'm just grateful that I've had no pain.

DutchOma · 01/05/2011 13:41

Lived in Amsterdam for eight years. Got married there. Occasionally will do touristy things now.

amberlight · 01/05/2011 14:28

Amsterdam is lovely!! Architecture, canals, shops, very interesting what's in some of the shop windows Shock and one or two of the cafe's have an interesting smell to them, but it's all very civilised in the most part. Wonderful.

thumbwitch · 01/05/2011 14:48

amber - Bruges, in Belgium, has some interesting shop windows as well. I found some of the chocolates on sale were rather, well, anatomical - and the display windows were specially low level as well, so even the smallest child could see in! I was Shock but I guess that's because I'm British...

Hello all! Hope you are all well!

MaryBS · 01/05/2011 16:42

I've been to Bruges a few times thumb, and never saw anything dodgy - perhaps you frequented a different district :o. I love Bruges at Christmas. Absolutely magical, small enough to walk round, and LOAD OF SCRUMMY choccies! :o

DutchOma · 01/05/2011 16:53

I have seen plenty dodgy places in Amsterdam, our church was right in the middle of the red light district and our chaplain knew all of them by name.
