Tea Room The 24th - San Francisco Painted Lady!

Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 14:15

Welcome to the 24th incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not that you only have to have one! Just so long as you enjoy chat, tea, coffee, cake!!

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or Brew.

Our ongoing voyage take us to one of San Francisco's Painted Ladies!

We've brought the Aga over, it's in the back in the cosy kitchen overlooking the back garden. The chintz sofa is in the front room, under the bow window! All of the pillows and duvets have come along as well!

What's that? The Priest Hole? It's just over there --> behind the bookcase!

Mellors is upstairs, preparing the bedrooms for naps and such. Wink

The aspidistras are thriving as they overlook Nob Hill! The horses have found themselves stabled in the Garden, which is much larger than these places usually are in this city!

So come in and have a seat!

::tea hurries off to Powell Street to catch the Cable Car to Ghirardelli Square::

very scary CMOT, hope she is OK

I can upload a photo to my album on here if I can remember how of what I knitted recently

amberlight · 12/03/2011 17:34

UniS, hope the funeral goes ok and everyone behaves?
CMOT, eek also re situation there...

I can only sleep under two duvets or equivalent weight, which is a big of a challenge in summer. Need the sensory input.

Tee2072 · 12/03/2011 18:17

How scary CMOT. I hope she's okay.

Unis I also hope the funereal goes okay.

I sleep with a duvet and a blanket.

For the record, this season's sack dresses look like a sack when no matter who is wearing them. Especially me!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 12/03/2011 18:35

CMOT, have you found out what was going on with your mother??

I must now officially be a grown up - I own a child with chicken pox! Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 18:45

I too need two duvets to feel properly covered. In summer, if it's very hot, I throw caution to the winds and sleep under only one duvet.

We had an exciting Brownie outing today and Girl -who is poorly at the moment with an undiagnosed lurgy - is now snoring on the sofa.

CMOTdibbler · 12/03/2011 18:51

Have just phoned them and she is OK, but a little more vague than usual. Dad is very shaken by it all. Paramedics said the gp would be informed and they would see her on Monday.

I too like a really heavy duvet - but hate blankets. Can't sleep with nothing over me

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 19:51

Oh dear, Cmot. My immediate and not very appropriate response is to offer WineWineWine.

CMOTdibbler · 12/03/2011 20:14

Oh, that sounds entirely appropriate to me Smile

Scout19075 · 12/03/2011 20:17

Poor CMOT and parents.

I think we need an Chocolate emoticon so we can pass some.

We're at inlaws for S'siL birthday. ToddlerScout really does love the cats here! And with one of them it's a Mutal Admiration Society of ToddlerScout and Cat. It's so sweet to watch. I think we need one.

Another crappy night's sleep. I'm sure it's a phase/cycle meds cause insomnia, tiredness and thirst (which makes me drink so therefore I use the loo a lot three times in four hours last night). ARGH! More than half way done though so hopefully things will be back to normal sooner rather than later.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 20:22

So what's the dosage, Cmot? Wine or Brew?

Scout19075 · 12/03/2011 20:51

Looks like I may be having a MrScoutFree weekend coming up....

Scout19075 · 12/03/2011 20:52

Meant to add: Oh the possibilities.

Scout19075 · 12/03/2011 21:14

Though upon reflection, how is any different to my normal, day-to-day, weekday life?

oxeye · 12/03/2011 21:52

Hope wriggle is ok. Cmot how scarey ....
Unis cake sounds great. Hope funeral ok
I like just a duvet can sleep with nothng on if hot but prefer even just sheet
had lovely day in park with oxboys best friend but sadly he's moving to America

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 21:59

::clasps everyone to her well-upholstered bosom::

Scout - I like taking Girl on day trips when Bloke isn't around at the weekend.

Oxeye - Bummer about OxBoy's friend moving away but it's a fickle age and he'll have a new best friend in days.

Wine, anyone?

oxeye · 12/03/2011 22:19

Thanks for wine
I know Oxboy will be fine. In some ways that's part of the sadness. They could have been close buddies from birth. Now however they'll drift off and not even really remmber each other
heh ho. Thanks for hug

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 22:23

I think it's pretty rare for someone to find a soulmate at birth and hang onto them for life. It was hard enough when we were little, and people's lives seem so much more mobile now. On the other hand, there is e-mail and Facebook (although these are possibly of limited use at OxBoy's age).

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/03/2011 06:59

I totally underestimated the awfulness of a night with a very spotty itchy child who does not do stiff upper lips and stoic resignaion.

Oxeye, all Wriggle's present friends have been from birth. I di hope that some will be friends for the rest of her life (also because that should mean that their mums will be friends for the rest of my life).

I was thinking about your comment about the CofE as shaping the pattern of the year and that is exactly why I (and probably most others) are quite attached to it. Don't think that is quite how the church sees it though. And I personally need some spirituality and belief from somewhere too.

MaryBS · 13/03/2011 08:44

Poor wriggle :(

I'm another one who needs a duvet pressing down on me!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/03/2011 10:44

Poor Wriggle - do try (ha!) to stop her picking at the spots. I failed miserably with Girl.

I hope that Girl will hang onto some friends from early childhood, but as another one has just emigrated I realise the odds are against it. Still, e-mail is a wonderful thing. In some ways, I think life is about acquiring new friends as one goes along and am always a bit baffled Hmm by people who haven't made a new friend since they were at school.

amberlight · 13/03/2011 13:45

I had one friend at school for five years, then two friends, and now I have 61 who are in regular contact with me and want to meet up etc (!) which goes to show that even from very dodgy starts we can end up ok.

Trying to work out who's who from the 61 friends is surprisingly difficult sometimes though Grin.

Oddly, a lot of people are actually ok with a small Amber approaching them to say "will you be my friend?", including one or two surprised fairly senior figures in public life etc over the years Biscuit. I was fairly surprised too, because I didn't realise who they were at the time Blush but they're nice friends anyway.

Anyone for afternoon tea?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/03/2011 14:11

Brew - lovely! Just having a sit down to watch Dumbo and take our minds off spots.

Shall we have toasted hot cross buns (yes I know it's too early), slices of seed cake, scones and maybe a cherry cake? Sounds very Sunday-afternoonish to me.

Just finished a lovely lunch of spinach soup and a salad made with wild garlic from the side of the road and chives from the garden. Feeling very green (in a good way).

amberlight · 13/03/2011 14:36

Oh yes please Smile. Might go bake a Victoria Sponge in a min...between watching the rugby and catching up online...
UnSerp, have you had chicken pox? DS gave it to me and to dh!

Tee2072 · 13/03/2011 16:05

Happy Sunday afternoon everyone!

My life is messed up. US has changed their clocks 2 weeks before us! Don't they know I have Skype calls scheduled?!?!

Cake?
