Tea Room The 24th - San Francisco Painted Lady!

Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 14:15

Welcome to the 24th incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not that you only have to have one! Just so long as you enjoy chat, tea, coffee, cake!!

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or Brew.

Our ongoing voyage take us to one of San Francisco's Painted Ladies!

We've brought the Aga over, it's in the back in the cosy kitchen overlooking the back garden. The chintz sofa is in the front room, under the bow window! All of the pillows and duvets have come along as well!

What's that? The Priest Hole? It's just over there --> behind the bookcase!

Mellors is upstairs, preparing the bedrooms for naps and such. Wink

The aspidistras are thriving as they overlook Nob Hill! The horses have found themselves stabled in the Garden, which is much larger than these places usually are in this city!

So come in and have a seat!

::tea hurries off to Powell Street to catch the Cable Car to Ghirardelli Square::

Am just popping my head around the corner to say hello, sorry as usual not around much, still recovering from a mostly rotten weekend, and must get to bed. But will just nick a bit of Twiglet Surprise and a Wine before I go. Ta.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 29/03/2011 21:21

Is it the Christian bit or the death bit, CMOT? Or the resurrection bit?

Wriggle's friend's dog has just died, which has lead to lots of interesting converastions. 'Where is the dog?' 'It died.' 'But where is it?' 'Well, they buried its body in the garden and-' 'What - they left its head out???' After sorting out this problem of vocabulary, we have discussed souls, vegetarianism, reincarnation, the ageing process, darning, meat ...

CMOTdibbler · 29/03/2011 21:32

Its just that he cannot accept anything as just that how it is. So we get all the questions about roman gods, why did they believe in those, do they exist, why are they bad gods etc, then 'if god could bring jesus back to life, why doesn't he do it for everyone, blah blah'. Its bad enough having to explain plate tectonics to him, but at least I believe in that !

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/03/2011 21:34

Have more Wine, Cmot! Today, it's my answer to everything.

Tee2072 · 29/03/2011 21:39

Oh man am I dreading those conversations with LCT. I was raised Jewish, now don't practice but am fairly spiritual. MrTee was raised Church of Ireland and is now a rabid atheist.

Have I mentioned we live in Northern Ireland?!?!

I thunk I dread the religion talk more than the sex talk. I know a lot about sex. Grin

Wine I can see that things might be a little trying in that regard Tee. We had the babies conversation ages ago - which of course was in far more detail than other people seem to have to give. Fortunatly, he doesn't seem to need to share this with other children.

I knew we would have all this as ds goes to a cathedral school, but didn't process how many questions it would bring

UniS · 29/03/2011 22:37

arrh, that will be a fun set of conversations tee.

I don't think it does children any harm to be told that something IS difficult to understand and grown ups still don't understand / know everything about a subject. Agree tho, plate tectonics IS a heck of a lot easier to explain than gods. Which may be why science is easier to believe in than most faiths. BUT a lot of science as taught at school is "lies to children" the REAL science comes later in life/ education and is rather harder to get to grips with.

Books- The moving castle / Califer trio ( they were all 40 pc off) . Howls..., House of Many ways and Castle in the air( or is it sky). I was very tempted by teh Chestomanci compendiums as well, but need to work out which ones I already have as single books.

Coffee cream biscuit and hot choc??

Scout19075 · 29/03/2011 22:44

I've just had my first spontaneous trip to the pub sans TS -- I feel almost human!

UniS · 29/03/2011 22:55

Congratulation Scout. shall we hang out teh bunting in your honour?

Scout19075 · 29/03/2011 22:57

LOL

Who knew going for a soft drink without pre-planning the trip could be so good for the soul?

Scout19075 · 29/03/2011 22:59

(I am a sad, sad girl if I'm getting my kicks from a coke at the pub after Guides!)

UniS · 29/03/2011 23:03

not sad, just tired. glad you had a good end to your guides evening.

We have Boys first parents evening tomorrow!!! eeek. hope no nasty surprises.

Scout19075 · 29/03/2011 23:17

Eek re first parents' evenings!

And loud EEK re conversations regarding babies, death, God and science.

Donki · 29/03/2011 23:22

Humph! Went to look at the BBC news and weather forecast before going to bed......

and it's not there........

thumbwitch · 29/03/2011 23:30

Scout, not sad at all, tis representative, innit. Hope it's the first of more! have a virtual Wine too.

UniS - hope 1st Parents' Eve goes well

serpent/CMOTD - miniT seems at the moment to be very au fait with death but I'm sure that's because he doesn't really understand it. Having watched the Lion King from quite an early age (by accident, I'd never seen it so didn't realise that Mufasa snuffed it) he's kind of "got" it, but I'm quite sure the ramifications haven't kicked in yet.

Agent - hope your rotten weekend fades into the background soon and the coming one is better.

I have a trying week - miniT had some blood tests done last week and I got a call on Monday from the surgery to say the doc would like to discuss them with me but the earliest appt I coudl get with her was the following Monday. The receptionist did tell me that it wasn't urgent, Monday next would be fine - but I can't help but worry. I'm hoping it's something simple like "he is a tiny bit anaemic" but being a haematologist at this point is Very Bad For The Soul. Still, doesn't do to dwell on it, it isn't going to make Monday come any sooner.

Scout19075 · 29/03/2011 23:48

Guess that's true.

Hoping the weather is decent tomorrow -- want to take TS outside with his shopping cart and water table.

Jacksmania · 29/03/2011 23:51

Thumb, it is hard when you know too much, isn't it? (((((HUG))))))

(And to everyone else, of course.)

Jacksmania · 29/03/2011 23:51

WTH - weird bold.

Scout19075 · 29/03/2011 23:59
Jacksmania · 30/03/2011 00:02
thumbwitch · 30/03/2011 00:06

argh, I keep mentioning to tech about the weird bold and italics - they know it's a problem and have said they're trying to tighten it up but it still happens from time to time! Not sure why exactly.

Cheers for Wine!

Grandma has just taken miniT off for the day so I have some time to write my chapter for a book that someone asked me to do; have a long soaky luxurious bath and whatever else I feel like. If the sun goes in I can go and plant things in the garden, even! (Can't work in the sun, it causes Instant and Profuse Sweating).

Scout19075 · 30/03/2011 00:11

Foresee a trip to the store tomorrow for milk (just looked in the 'fridge and it's bare in there). Would it be weird to take TS's little shopping cart and letting him walk around the shop with me if all I'm getting is milk? (Walking with his cart as opposed to sitting in a real one having a ride.)

Really must go to bed but must summon the energy to turn off all of the lights and climb the stairs.

Jacksmania · 30/03/2011 01:57

I know what I did with the weird bold. I put another * around my HUG. That's what did it.

amberlight · 30/03/2011 07:21

Agent, dare we ask what sort of rotten weekend?

::hands over large Brew and puts others out for people::

Ah yes, the joys of teaching about Easter. Today, another 50 primary school children will reap the benefits of my knowledge Biscuit heaven help them Grin

The cat decided to figure out the kitchen door and arrived in our bedroom at 5.30am, loudly. This wasn't the start to the day I was anticipating.

thumbwitch · 30/03/2011 07:27

Scout, i don't think it would be weird - when I was little, I had a wicker basket on wheels with a long handle (the type that old ladies used way back then) and I used to take it shopping whenever we went to any shops.
Also, some shops have mini-trolleys for children to push around - I know miniT loves pushing one of them around Bunnings (our equivalent of B&Q or other DIY place) and we have to try and find small things to put in to appease him, so he knows he's being Helpful. :)

Ta for the Brew, amber - I'm sure the children will find your explanations very interesting! Grin
