Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Morning.

I, personally, think CRB checks are silly. All they prove is the person hasn't been caught, if they are someone who harms children. But I'm mostly an anarchist who wants the government out of my private life completely. Not that I don't think we should protect children, we should. I just don't think the government should help. ::steps off soapbox::

Anyway, I'm on Facebook if anyone wants to friend me, Robyn Fraser, picture of Valentine's card LCT did for me as my profile pic. ::waits for the gasps of shock that I put my real name on MN to die down::

That's the other thing I don't believe in. That there's any privacy on the internet at all, so why hide?

Oh, wait, I stepped off my soapbox...

MaryBS · 18/02/2011 08:34

Can't find you on FB Tee/Robyn...

Tee2072 · 18/02/2011 08:56

try that Mary

amberlight · 18/02/2011 08:59

CRB checks are utterly pointless. They 'prove' that on a given day, that person hasn't been convicted of a crime against children. Given that it takes 200 incidents against children (on average) before such people are caught, and given that it doesn't link in ANY way with crimes against vulnerable adults instead, it's as much use as a tram ticket. I have 2 CRB checks in place, done 3 weeks apart, because I work for 2 different places with children. Neither covers me for working with vulnerable adults! Utter madness.

MaryBS · 18/02/2011 09:07

OK Robyn, I can now see you, but can't see how to add you as a friend. If I "like" your Company page, can you then send me a friend request? And then, once you've got one of us, the others can send you friend requests!

Unless anyone has any better ideas...?

Tee2072 · 18/02/2011 09:14

There's no Add Friend button? Odd!

I think that will work, give it a try! Or PM me your real name and I can try from my direction?

I'm on my out bur will work on it when I get home!

Milk arrived in Brittany yesterday lunchtime. She ran all the way to the train station and when I waved her off she was giggling with excitement.

It was so sooooo lovely. I was very pleased for her!

Donki - YIKES!!!! Union + HT support = I am sure you will be fine
... but what a BLOODY PITA... and what unnecessary stress eh?

I once aherrm 'gave a child a Chinese burn' Hmm. Luckily for me, the child was only five so hadn't thought through the story very well, the burn was done in "the middle of the dinningroom at dinnertime" so the investigations lasted under an hour before the truth was uncovered - I had actually firmly (because he had been a pickle pants all day) told him go back and eat his dinner - which was "sooooo unfair" BUT thank God the majority of the school had been in the room to back me up!!! Grin.

Well, just back from the hospital, news is that there is ligament damage and so they are going to have a look-see what they can do, via keyhole surgery. And FINALLY am going to get physio!

amberlight · 18/02/2011 12:22

Gah! Physio should have been started weeks and week ago if only they'd worked faster on what it was. Have a Brew

Donki · 18/02/2011 17:09

Well, that was a productive afternoon in the priesthole. I have just finished the departmental development plan. It felt very strange writing it

  1. I have never done anything like it before because it is usually the responsibility of the HoD. (although I have discussed dev. plans at departmental meetings)

  2. I am covering a maternity leave, so may have nothing to do with its implementation

  3. Felt all at sea, because there was no-one to discuss it with - and I couldn't just update the old science department dev. plan because no-one knows where it is, and the format has changed since the 2007-2009 version that I do have.

(and a big thanks to the technology department for letting me have a copy of theirs!)

I have also been to get some Wine for this evening...

teafortwo · 18/02/2011 17:17

Donki darlink - have two... well deserved!!!!

Wine Wine

Scout19075 · 18/02/2011 18:46

Wine o'clock.

Who's for some?

Tee2072 · 18/02/2011 19:12

::holds out glass::

Oh god yes please! LCT didn't close his eyes once today. Not even for 5 minutes. Of course this means he's sound asleep at 7, but still, a nap would be nice!

Scout19075 · 18/02/2011 19:16

Naps are fab. BabyScout has more-or-less dropped his morning one, though sometimes he goes for a rest (half hour in his bed laying down/playing with his friends). Took him a long 90 minutes to fall asleep this afternoon but think he had trapped wind -- went up to cuddle him and he stank. Soon as I got rid of that he was out within two minutes.

He practically begged to go to bed tonight but still him settling down up there. No chatter, just rolling around.

Scout19075 · 18/02/2011 19:17
Tee2072 · 18/02/2011 19:21

LCT either conks out right after lunch and sleeps for 2 hours or doesn't sleep at all. Except at daycare where he sleeps for 30 - 60 minutes.

Today he didn't sleep at all. He tried to fall asleep at 4 but mama said no way josé!

Scout19075 · 18/02/2011 19:25

Since he's dropped his morning sleep he goes down between 12:30 & 1:30. Think today he went down around 12:45 but fell asleep around 2:05 (pooey bum kept him up, I think, even though I changed him just before he went down).

I do love nap time!

Donki · 18/02/2011 19:37
Wine hic! Grin

Oh dear Scout - I remember dancing non-stop to that song at a summer camp too...

My favourite bit is the two women enthusiastically dancing with a rag doll!!! Wink Grin

Donki · 18/02/2011 20:08

I've got a lovely vintage carrot wine here....
A bit cheeky, but very good for the eyesight!

Any takers?

(in RL I have a loverly glass of port!)

Scout19075 · 18/02/2011 20:11

Every now and again I just have to watch for a giggle.

Ahhh, Archie Medes.

Mmm, carrot wine -- yum!

teafortwo · 18/02/2011 20:25

Did I tell you about my Valentine prezzie??? It is a story about a woman who is an Alaskan prostitute and starts dreaming about her Dad and it makes her think about her family history and so far it is a surprisingly brilliant read...

Do you know of it?
