Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

Serpent, I'm a very new frequentee and have only name changed by about three letters (ie added an Un and dropped an e) and I don't think we've conversed before so please don't think you've failed to recognise me! The "can you tell" in my last post was a slightly pisht attempt at irony Blush! But it's nice to say hello anyway!

Sorry I have alerted you to an age gap previously unnoticed! I suppose that, like you feel you missed out on a lot of fun, I feel that I missed out on a lot of stuff in general during the first half-ish of my life - it wasn't good, shall we say; and I feel sad to be only just getting into my stride now that biology and chronology are telling me I should be thinking about winding down rather than gearing up for loads and loads more.

Still, sod it, I will gear up for as much more of whatever as is in any way possible and pack in as much as I can of same in my twilight years. And I'll point Mellors in your direction for a bit of well-deserved extra fun, Snakey Serpent!!

Tee, I had a quick peek at your blog, and guess what - I met MrS on t'internet too, so I am definitely not laughing! (well, not in that way). We would never, ever have met in RL, but he is definitely the man I had to meet and cannot imagine my life without, so three cheers for modern technology say I.

UniS was a guide in Ealing, that leafy west London suburb. Quite a long time ago. Went right through brownies to rangers age 7-18. MAny MAny campfires to sing dreadful songs and preform lamentable sketches at.

Who remembers the "uglyist creature in the world" or " boat race" or even teh "levitating blanket" trick.

DH went through Boys brigade, but we have a stock of shared campfire song memories, used to sing them in the car a lot when boy was smaller. now he just asks to listen to classic FM if we start singing.

Unis wonders off singing gently.
To market, to market, went my uncle Jim, when somebody threw a tomato at him, now tomatoes are soft and they don;t break the skin, but this one it did, it were wrapped in a tin.

Goodness me, how Brownies and Guides have changed since the dawn of time when I attended. Bras?? Barnacle Bill?? (Barnacle Bill that is, not bras.)

Anyway, I always thought it was Hayla, oh Hayla Shayla.

Actually I do vaguely remember something about "father Christmas do not touch me" and "as she lay beneath the lily white sheets with nothing on at all" to the tune of john brown's body - straight after "give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning" that would have been....

I must have had a very sub-standard experience as a Guide, as I haven't even heard of those tricks! My first love was in the Boys Brigade.

Did have a good meeting with my Seniors though -- I do like them.

BabyScout was a very brave boy today. Wish he was old enough to appreciate a "Brave Boy Treat" -- had he been I would have got him one.

Serpent - I wrote it in a Word document and then C&P it. Un très grand faff. I'm sure there must be a way of doing it with control and alt keys, but I don't know how.

Unis has scoured You tube looking for a vid of "uncle jim" failed. It does show up in som camp fire song books, sometimes as "brother jim" and with its chorus of

You can do éá etc on your keyboard if it is relatively new by holding down the right hand ALT key and typing the letter. Not sure how to do the accent the other way, though...

Is it too early for Wine? LCT just fell face first off my lap onto our wood laminate floor, with the same sound and in the same position he landed it when I dropped him when he was 3 weeks old. That time he had a cracked skull and broken ribs and spent two nights in hospital. And eventually had to have surgery. This time he is running around playing just fine. Mummy, however, needs a stiff drink and a way to push the flash backs from her brain.

Tee, eek re gravity and LCT! If they're running around fine and there's nothing amiss in the 24 hrs afterwards, there's no problem, as you know. But our brains rarely listen to reason.

It's not so much that I am worried about him this time, it's more the recurring recollection of when he went splat 19 months ago! He seems perfectly fine today!

Oh Tee! Really feel for you! I inadvertently tipped SBoy out of his car seat head first onto the GP's waiting room floor (v thinly carpeted) when he was 4 months, and he had a few hours in hosp for obs and a black eye, and I was quite hysterical about that; so to go through what you and LCT did at just 3 weeks.... must have been horrendous with your new wee baby and I quite understand today's bump bringing it all back.

Sending you copious amounts of Wine and some large hugs if you want them. And glad you're not freaking out atm re the present incident itself.

If that's not a wee bit too much for this early hour....

Can you have a surreptitious sniffle while he plays/watches TV? Can be a good way of releasing some of the flashback shock adrenalin! And of course a nice Brew can often help. Will just put the kettle on for you. Hob nobs?

Yegads! A bunny with a pancake on its head! Strangely comforting, yes.

Shouting at a child for spitting out sausages on the floor seems quite normal.

I do like that bunny picture but, as I have pointed out elsewhere in the past, that bunny actually has 2 pancakes on its head! [pedantic emoticon] Grin

Thanks everyone. I had a good cry while comforting him after the fall to which MrTee commented 'It's okay LCT, Mummy is just flashing back to when she dropped you.' Which was not only true, but a bit psychic as I hadn't mentioned to him yet how he had fallen in exactly the position as he did at 3 weeks!

Guess I need to be on the bad mummy bench as I yelled at LCT, using all of his names, when he threw his dinner on the floor the other night!

Oh tee - You have reminded me of how I felt when Milk rolled off of our bed as a tiddler when I was busy msning with my Mum [neglectful]. It is such a horrible feeling - no words can describe.

More recently my neice whacked her head when she came to stay. She carried on playing even though she had an amazing egghead meanwhile understandably my sister had to go and lie down to recover.

I mended her (my sis) with lots of Brew and a Smile...

Let's see if the same helps you...
