Tea room 22- A Farmhouse kitchen, anyone for a cuppa?

Welcome to the 22nd incarnation of the tea room. This time we are watching for spring from a cosy farmhouse kitchen. There is an aga for baking virtual cakes and an inglenook with toasty fire and settles to rest weary bones on. The distressed chintz sofa and footstool have arrived safe and sound and the priest hole is around here somewhere. On the Window sill is an aspidistra its pot surrounded by a hand holding circle of nearly naked mohawk babies, they have placards and a brazier.

Outside in the surrounding fields can be found the tea room horses, Earl and Lady Grey, also a herd of bison AND a Ha Ha to keep the bishops from invading.

Usual rules apply, no fisticuffs, if you want an argument go else where. Mellors the butler / game keeper will supply all sorts of things on request. Welcome Mums of one, none or many to the tea room of requirement.

I had a very small registry office wedding followed by a sit down meal at a hotel.

LCT has kept dinner down Yaya. But his fever is back up Boooo. In a brilliant mummy move I woke him when checking his temp but at least it gave me a chance to get some more nurophen in him.

Donki I'm always oversharing so I can relate. I have a cousin who lives in Alaska. She owns a B&B. When are you going? Happy to
Hook the two of you up, if you want. Or you can tell me to butt out!

Off to bed. LCT was asleep at an unprecedented 645, so may be a short night!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 22:40

Oh, I had (in my estimation anyway) posh but also low-key, on account of being geriatric. SIL had clearly modelled hers on the Beckhams' wedding with his and hers thrones, so it was extravagant without being posh.

::ashamed of unsisterly feelings::

Off to bed soon.

::swigs Bolly::

I luuuurve talking about weddings!

We eloped to London and got hitched at Westminster Town Hall. No music, no rings, no white dress and no formality at all. It was just what we wanted.

After tidying Milk's room she danced around singing "I love my room because I have a desk to do culler liiin liiing on and I am going to sleep in my room from now on."

"Good, if you do I will buy you some beautiful bedding in the sales so you can sleep in here nice and comfortably tomorrow." I said. (We had a false start about a year and a half ago - do you remember?)

She is soooouuuund asleep in HER bed!!!

I am very pleased for her and think I may have to spend tomorrow afternoon shopping - poor me Wink.

Scout19075 · 30/01/2011 22:55

Oooohhh, tea, shopping for bedding. Can I tag along? BabyScout could really do with some....

MyrrhyBS · 31/01/2011 07:32

We got married in church, had a nice pub reception, who did a lovely job for very little cost, then spent the majority of the money on a fantastic honeymoon in the Canadian Rockies Blush

CMOTdibbler · 31/01/2011 09:04

We got married in a hotel (the first year you could do that) - I had a cream dress, mum made the bridesmaids dresses, and I had all artificial flowers I arranged myself. Seemed like a big blow out, but didn't cost that much.

Go through Seattle Donki - its a good route

Scout19075 · 31/01/2011 09:31

Just had a letter through telling me why they want BabyScout to have a hospital appointment. Why don't they put these things on the appointment slip?!

amberlight · 31/01/2011 09:41

Scout, because that would be too easy.

Our wedding was lovely, if hilarious. About 50 guests and a nice reception at a large inn/hotel in a neighbouring village.

We'd navigated the overly hopeful granddad chasing the Matron of Honour round the dining table, the flowers not turning up on time, the hairdresser forgetting the appointments for us all, my car breaking down on the way back from the hairdressers and me having to hit it with a hammer, and it pouring with rain at intervals...

Oh yes, and dh's parents panicking and ending up in the pub, and the honeymoon hotel having its central heating stuck on superblast-hot which melted the chocs and caused the champagne to pop. Plus the hotel cutting up the wrong bit of cake.

And a honeymoon on Jersey with the strangest hotel guests in the world and a very scary pit bull terrier dog that could bite through solid metal.

All very normal for an Amber Grin and here we are many years later still laughing about it all.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 31/01/2011 10:40

Wow. I think Amber gets the prize for wedding and honeymoon most likely to be made into a Richard Curtis rom com.

Hot chocolate and fresh pastries on the aga now, for anyone in need.

amberlight · 31/01/2011 10:42

Hot pastries and fresh chocolate? Ideal!

Or the other way round Grin

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 31/01/2011 10:44

Works either way, I think, Amber!

Scout19075 · 31/01/2011 10:54

Cheers, Techno!

Dreading BabyScout's appointment now. Why am I always the one to take him to appointments that cause pain....?!?!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 31/01/2011 11:16

We had wedding in registry office followed by reception totally organised by my classroom assistant in her garden. My mother made a cake. There were 17 people there (including four who invited themselves), which was 15 more than DH would have had had he chosen. My dress was £10, down from over £100! Total cost - about £100. The same classroom assistant managed to save me from the cut glass vase from school and got a hotel voucher for a hotel in the cloisters in Salisbury instead. To get to our room you had to go through the Ladies. When we arrived in Salisbury, my sister rang up because she had left her bag in our car and drove over to pick it up. We spent the evening drinking champagne on the lawn outside Salisbury cathedral with her. We went to early mass next morning in the cathedral choir, I lit a candle to remind anyone who might have been watching that we had been waiting rather a long time for the Advent of Wriggle, and then it was back home to work. Lovely. Perfect weekend.

oxeye · 31/01/2011 11:50

All weddings sound lovely!! We got married outside in a ruin and lunch in a marquee. We played croquet and had about 25 children who just ran around and had fun. We bought all booze in France and saved a fortune. Wonderful day, best in my life. Seeing Oxboy was the best moment in my life but comparing days the wedding wins hands down. We spent all our budget on wedding and went camping in rain as honeymoon, were going to go on long hike but weather so horrid we turned back after two hours!!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 31/01/2011 11:54

Oxeye! We seldom see you in daylight. Is all well?

Yes, it's fascinating to hear about the diversity of modern weddings. I rather envy my friend who got married on a tropical beach, but we wouldn't have been able to have a stonking organ voluntary if we had, I suppose.

amberlight · 31/01/2011 14:39

Small amount of news in 't other place

Donki · 31/01/2011 14:50

Here you go Amber

Carrots or chocolate cake?

BoffinMum · 31/01/2011 15:36

Hey everyone.

Busy writing a research proposal which is nearly done. I probably would have preferred giving birth again. Is there any tea left while I wait for colleagues to upload things? And could Mellors tuck me in on the sofa with a cashmere blanket and stroke my hair a bit while I drink it??

amberlight · 31/01/2011 15:50

Choc cake would be good, yes please!

CMOTdibbler · 31/01/2011 15:54

Mellors always is available for love and attention Grin

Your proposal writing reminds me that I have a stack of grant applications to review. Gah - I hate reading them when they are badly thought out.

I'm going to an RDA day in March to sort out my riding - finally found someone who understood what I needed

amberlight · 31/01/2011 16:15

An RDA day? Splendid. I love working with them.

BoffinMum · 31/01/2011 16:41

CMOT I sincerely hope one of mine is in there and you love it! Haven't won any funding since 2003 now. Sad

Scout19075 · 31/01/2011 18:54

Tea anyone?

BoffinMum · 31/01/2011 18:56

Actually a madeira and a quick pat of a dog for me.

Tee2072 · 31/01/2011 19:17

:;wondering along with scout::

Well, thought we were past liquids evacuating in unpleasant manner, but just had another nasty nappy. sigh At least his fever is coming down.

All healthy eating suspended at Teeville. Therefore I have chocolate cookies, chocolate suffles and chocolate bars. Who wants?
