Tea room 22- A Farmhouse kitchen, anyone for a cuppa?

UniS · 24/01/2011 14:47

Welcome to the 22nd incarnation of the tea room. This time we are watching for spring from a cosy farmhouse kitchen. There is an aga for baking virtual cakes and an inglenook with toasty fire and settles to rest weary bones on. The distressed chintz sofa and footstool have arrived safe and sound and the priest hole is around here somewhere. On the Window sill is an aspidistra its pot surrounded by a hand holding circle of nearly naked mohawk babies, they have placards and a brazier.

Outside in the surrounding fields can be found the tea room horses, Earl and Lady Grey, also a herd of bison AND a Ha Ha to keep the bishops from invading.

Usual rules apply, no fisticuffs, if you want an argument go else where. Mellors the butler / game keeper will supply all sorts of things on request. Welcome Mums of one, none or many to the tea room of requirement.

Yes he did, thanks Oxeye. Early enough that I could have made it for coffees but late enough that I didn't actually have to go as going to the pub for a tea/coffee at 10 o'clock just seemed silly. Was much nicer staying at home.

I like East Anglia -- feels a lot like the area I grew up in. In fact, I thought that the first time I came to England and took the train from London to Ye Ol' University to see MrScout before returning to the States. Mom and Dad agree.

Has the vomitting eased up any?

Scout19075 · 29/01/2011 21:44

Thanks for the update, Tee! Poor LCT! At least you have a plan/course of action.

Scout19075 · 29/01/2011 21:45

Oh, and I forgot, JM, all those listed flavors sound yummy so I will leave it to your discretion.

Catitainahatita · 29/01/2011 21:50

Scout have you checked the bins, inside cupboards, caught between mattress and bed? All these have been the unhappy destined of Kittenito's bunny in the past.also the bath, between cushions of sofa.
Sorry for the incoherence, I can't seem to manage the cursor as to edit.
Hi Oxeye. Mr J's PhD was an odessy. I am so glad it is over.

CMOTdibbler · 29/01/2011 21:56

Vomiting seems to have stopped ::crosses fingers:: Only another 2 changes of pillow cover.

Am a dark blue myself Grin

Scout19075 · 29/01/2011 21:57

(Feels silly asking but what's the light blue/dark blue stuff mean?)

CMOTdibbler · 29/01/2011 22:00

The large university town in the east =light blue, the other large university town with punts = dark blues

Scout19075 · 29/01/2011 22:03

Ahh, I see. Oh.... aren't their uni v uni boat race uniforms those blues?

CMOTdibbler · 29/01/2011 22:07

Yes - and in fact, being selected to represent your university in sport is termed as 'getting your blue', or being a swimming blue for example

Scout19075 · 29/01/2011 22:13

My MiL & FiL met at Ye Ol' University near me. MrScout's cousin (on his father's side) used to row for the other Ye Ol' University -- watching the boat races is big thing in the family (hence why I remember the racing uniforms!). I still have yet to make it to see/visit the other Ye Ol' University & town despite the inlaws living about as far from it as I do from my Ye Ol' University. Is it similar or very different?

oxeye · 29/01/2011 22:41

Heh cmot. I knew I liked you Wink

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 01:53

::Staggers in from party::

Oxford is the city of perspiring dreams. Or something like that.

::Runs away from Oxeye::

amberlight · 30/01/2011 08:38

Dark Blue here. None of this Light Blue Nonsense! Grin

Tee, CMOT, what news of your lovely dcs?? Keeping everything crossed for you both.

"I know", said dh, yesterday, "We'll go out for lunch in Marlow - I know a really nice Italian restaurant there that I take clients to!". Jolly good. So he phoned up the number from the card they'd given him last time, and booked a table. We get there....and the restaurant isn't there any more. So funny. Poor man! Luckily we are quite used to this sort of thing happening, and at least he found out before taking any more clients to it! (So who on earth did he book with, we have to ask ourselves!! They must have sold on the number to another restaurant somewhere! ) Anyway, we went to another lovely restaurant instead, which was lovely. Marlow is the most beautiful town.

Then we picked up a bird feeding station assemble-it-yourself thingy, and I spent a merry couple of hours figuring out how to put this magnificent item together. The birds seem pleased. So does the cat, but for possibly different reasons.

PS I'm going to contemplate wigs in case I'm one of the 20% who need one despite the new improved no-hair-difference methods, which is another thing I find hilarious. Can I bear to contain myself and not go for something outrageous? What would go with blue??! Trouble is, ds (age 18 as we know) has too much of a sense of humour and I can foresee many occasions on which he might cause chaos with such an item, e.g. making a dive for it and wearing it during scrums....grr Grin

Scout19075 · 30/01/2011 08:39

Hehehe.

Bunny was found at approx 12:20 a.m. WHEW! Silly MrScout forgot that he DID take Bunny out with us and BabyScout, unable to access his hands, ended up flinging Bunny into the opposite footwell. Bunny and Boy are happily reunited.

How are all the poorly babies and toddlers today?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/01/2011 08:49

Some of us in here are more red brick than blue of any hue.

Maybe the caffeine content in coke perks them up a bit and encourages them to drink more? Don't know, but it was specifically recommended by GP. You can make your own re hydration fluid based on diluted apple juice - try googling it.

I was always a bit sad that Wriggle never took to a cuddly toy - maybe she didn't need one due to co-sleeping - but that certainly spared us The Agony Of The Lost Doudou. My main problem is hysterics from DH if they lose one of their little plastic Mowglis, Sids, Kirikous, etc Hmm

Beautiful sunny morning here - shall we wrap ourselves in quilts and take our coffee out into the walled garden?

Tee2072 · 30/01/2011 09:10

LCT a bit better today. Has thrown up twice more but first time was because my husband had a lapse at 4am and gave him milk and I think the second time was because he ate some watered down pureed fruit too fast, but I am not sure as I was asleep. He is sipping Dioralyte and appears to have a wet nappy, so hopefully we caught it in time and he's turned the corner. Right now he's asleep on me and I'm trying to decide if I should try to put him down!

BTW, my mum always gave us flat coke or ginger ale when we were ill.

LCT doesn't have a favourite stuffed animal either. Or a blankey.

CMOTdibbler · 30/01/2011 09:16

Vomiting stopped, so a happy little chipmunk woke up this morning, albeit a bit smelly.

DS has never had a cuddly either Serpent -t. at nursery in babies he apparently always had a muslin to sleep with, but when offered at home looked distainfully at it.

Marlow is lovely Amber - have spent much time shopping there, or rowing in my young days.

Get a couple of wigs - you can have great fun with them. People of my acquaintance say that they chose styles they had always wanted, but their hair wouldn't do. Trevor Sorbie set up a charity to style wigs for free here so they are customised to you.

Scout19075 · 30/01/2011 10:13

YAY for on the mend babies and toddlers. BabyScout is full snotty (AGAIN!). Oh well, he still seems happy enough.

Never tried to latch BabyScout to a cuddly, it just seemed to happen. To ease the transition from his basket to his bed (his cot) a few weeks before I started snuggling a teddy and putting that in his basket with him. However, once in his cot we realized it was always his Bunny he'd love on/cuddle/chew/stroke as he settled. Bunny doesn't tend to leave the upstairs except in cases of overnight travel or big adventures (ie, train to London when we'll be gone 12+ hours and he'll need to nap in his stroller). Hence my panic yesterday -- just a normal day so where did Bunny go? BabyScout seems very happy to have him back (though he did go to sleep (twice!) without him last night, I could tell he was looking in his bed for Bunny).

Have taken a break from dyeing pasta in alcohol and am now dyeing rice in vinegar. My hands and house stink....

Full English anyone?

Scout19075 · 30/01/2011 10:34

It sounds like it's all going to kick off again regarding my (crazy?) SiL & BiL and them sending their oldest away and having another baby....

purpleknittingmum · 30/01/2011 10:44

Morning!

hugs to those that need them!

busy day for me! Sorted out a load of pants and socks, baking a cake, going to mop kitchen and bathroom floor, my mum and step dad come over in the afternoon and the ironing to do!

Oh, and got some baguettes cooked for dinner and done a bit of paperwork!

purpleknittingmum · 30/01/2011 10:50

Oops, have to put the cake on hold! I need 3 and only go 2! Hadn't checked the recipe!

Scout19075 · 30/01/2011 11:59

Noooooo..... I don't seem to have any more quart-sized resealable bags. Damn. Need to find something reasonable to store all of my colored rice....

Tee2072 · 30/01/2011 12:02

Oh noes Scout. I hate that. My mom has just brought about 10 boxes. Or is that gloating? Grin

Wayhay, LCT has kept down a small piece of toast, about 50 mls of Diorlyte and Blush a small bit of biscuit. I was eating the biscuit and he looked so needy I figured, hey, it's sugar!

Scout19075 · 30/01/2011 12:04

I knew you'd appreciate that, Tee. I didn't get any more over Thanksgiving cuz I thought I had loads. Have gallon and snack and extra-large (2.5 gallon) but where are my quart?!

YAY on keeping down toast and Diorlyte and biscuit!

teafortwo · 30/01/2011 14:28

Hi all,

Soz about poorly bubbas, stressful families and a potential wig hiding boy etc etc - !

Unserp - I was going to say "I am more red East Anglian than any shade of blue!" But you got there with that line of thought first.

CMOT - Sorry about Mr CMOT. DH and I both find work quite stressful. We daydream about one of us accidently discovering something, or writing a childrens story or 3 minute song that makes a million so we can just hang around in our night clothes reading books on a beautiful island...

Better go and tackle the hell hole that underneath the mess is surprisingly Milk's bedroom.

Please send buckets of luck this way!

P.S - Sounds lik a Cambs summer meet up is a must, non??? Could be really good fun!
