Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

I had cottage pie w/veg for lunch and ham/egg (scrambled since don't like fried) and chips w/crusty bread for dinner. Found dinner heavy (MiL makes eggs very differently from me and hers always feel heavy/more filling than mine) but still hungry.

Can I suggest a round of toast?

ScoutingForSanta · 30/12/2010 23:41

Mmmm, toast....

I've actually just finished a mini slab of chocolate (a box of "A Taste of Ye Ol' University Town" from Hotel Chocolat -- YUM), have taken my pills (ugh) and am going to go to bed. Morning comes entirely too early and I've been stayng up way too late since being at InLawShire. BabyScout is only happy to stay in his (travel) bed playing with Bunny and Teddy for so long, so I have to get up when he does.

Oh! Have asked MrScout to ask his HT if I can use their laminator. He says he's sure MrsHT will let me, especially if it means a visit and cuddle with BabyScout. He's going to ask MrsHT at Governors next week. And I got an A3 laminator and packs of three different sizes of pouches from the inlaws for Christmas (it was on my wishlist). Grin

UniS · 30/12/2010 23:49

is teh school laminater even bigger than A3 then??

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 31/12/2010 00:39

LOL at getting a laminator for Christmas - that actually is the sort of thing I would like as a present as well!Xmas GrinXmas Blush

MrThumb has taken miniThumb off for the morning to allow me to tidy up (gee, thanks Hmm) in preparation for my friends coming to stay on Sunday afternoon. I am availing myself of this opportunity to talk to Dad on Skype - not quite what was intended! Must go and do something...

amberlight · 31/12/2010 08:29

A laminator? Oooo yes please!

Work today Xmas Hmm Oh well, it's my own fault.

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 31/12/2010 13:33

Happy New Year to you all, lovely friends - have just stayed up to watch the fireworks over Sydney harbour (on tv, we're not that keen) and it is now 2011 here!

Hope we all have a good year - that we all retain our health (or improve it!) and happiness and that good things come to us all.

CHEERS!!!

(Actually have drunk half a bottle of fizz all to myself this eve so am a wee bit pished but hey! Tis NYE, I'm allowed Grin)

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 31/12/2010 13:59

Cheers to all of that, Thumb!

amberlight · 31/12/2010 14:00

Cheers!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!

ScoutingForSanta · 31/12/2010 16:47

Happy New Year, Lovely Tea Room Ladies!

(We're boring and stay home with DVDs and snacks, so if anyone would care to join the "party" tonight I'll be around....)

ScoutingForSanta · 31/12/2010 18:17

(oh dear, hungry again....)

Forgot to mention, guess who's been helping BabyScout play with his "too big" toy....

Jacksmama · 31/12/2010 18:41

Happy New Years Eve everyone!
We're going to friend's tonight who have INSISTED we bring JB :) so we're actually going to a NYE party, first in who knows how many years! We are boring NYE people :o

I have a request - can I start the new TR 21 thread, and can it be in the Hawaiian islands, since that's where we (DH and I and JB and my parents) are going in a week for our holiday?

ScoutingForSanta · 31/12/2010 18:44

I'm jealous, JM! Have a fab trip. I've been to Hawaii once (had my 17th birthday there) for a GS trip. Was incredible!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 31/12/2010 21:05

Ooooh, Hawaii. I am sooooo jealous, especially as Hawaii is the spiritual home of the ukulele. Did I mention that I got a ukulele for Christmas?

We're not going out either. We must have behaved really badly at last year's NYE party as we haven't been invited to one this year! Wink

ScoutingForSanta · 31/12/2010 21:13

ooohhh, small, can you play Somewhere Over the Rainbow for us?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 31/12/2010 21:17

Well, as I haven't yet tuned the ukulele properly and know only the chord of C, my repertoire is somewhat limited at the moment. But I'm determined to learn. As I've mentioned before, my aim is to become so proficient on the ukulele that I am invited to join .

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 31/12/2010 21:19
With my love.
ScoutingForSanta · 31/12/2010 21:20

YAY!!!

Is it wrong to be getting tired of "mysteries" and "ghost stories." I'm bored.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 31/12/2010 23:44

Happy New Year to everyone. May we all improve our health, especially backs/hands/raggedy bits/scarey ops, find new jobs with lovely colleagues as required, add kittens/rabbits/siblings to our families as desired, settle happily into new schools and learn to play the ukele.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 31/12/2010 23:51

Aye aye to all of that Serpent!

ScoutingForSanta · 01/01/2011 00:12

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Thank you for welcoming me into the Tea Room and letting me stay. It's been a real saver (in a lot of ways) finding you amazing women and I'm so glad I did.

May 2011 deliver everything you want and need.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 01/01/2011 00:13

Oh, Scout. You are so welcome.

ScoutingForSanta · 01/01/2011 00:17

For those in the Big Smoke, were you able to see the fireworks from your home?

ScoutingForSanta · 01/01/2011 00:18
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 01/01/2011 00:24

We might have seen them if we'd dragged ourselves away from telly and PC and craned our necks from the top floor window!
