Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

Go for it, at least they are not blue.

ScoutingForSanta · 29/12/2010 23:35

Are blue wellies bad?

teafortwo · 30/12/2010 00:07

They are sooooo LOVELY scout - I may start a craze by getting a pair for my central Paris School run!!!! Grin

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 30/12/2010 00:11

I love the ladybird wellies and regret that SmallGirl never had any!

teafortwo · 30/12/2010 00:14

In fairness they are not too far away from these:

sporkfashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/Mouse%20Shoes.jpg

And... I have seen these being sold and worn in some very trendy areas of Paris Shock

So I think the ladybird boots could be a fashion craze Paris frankly is ripe for!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 30/12/2010 00:22

No they're not, although thankfully they don't have the Marc Jacobs price tag!

There's a craze in London (it seems) for grown women to wear knitted hats with teddy faces and teddy ears - comme ça.

teafortwo · 30/12/2010 00:24

I remember, when I was a lass, a boy in my class having rather lovely frog ones too. Envy

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 30/12/2010 01:26

Ohhh, ladybird wellies!! Xmas Envy I'd love those. JB has froggy ones.
Bleurgh, I have been feeling [meh]. So tired. Literally cannot get through the day without a nap. Or liters of coffee if I'm working. Broke down and saw my gf the naturopath and laid several woes on her (to do with down-below so won't go into disgusting detail here, no fear) and general state of exhaustion. She prescribed Floradix with iron, and gave me a jab with a lovely boosting cocktail (B vitamins and some other goodies, fabulous stuff, lasted nearly 48 hours) and we're going to do hormone testing at my next cycle. I felt like this nearly 4 years ago and everything was all out of whack so we'll see what's going on this time.
She also gave me four more syringes of the metabolic booster to take home (because I can give them
to myself). I've been staring at them in the fridge like a cat at a bird, wanting to take Tomorrow's jab today.

amberlight · 30/12/2010 08:18

Whack - to assassinate, or something that is very unusual. I thank the Urban Dictionary for this information. Some of its contents are very,er, lively.

Scout, sad to hear of your loss Sad

teafortwo · 30/12/2010 11:18

I am sorry, on account of being Christmas busy I have been skim reading the tearoom Shock - I know - bad, bad, bad me.

I just realised... scout, I am sorry about your friend. How horrible! Sad

ScoutingForSanta · 30/12/2010 16:32

Thanks everyone. TM was 85, so no real great surprise I guess.

Why is it that we've just had Christmas and I'm looking at toys for BabyScout?!

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 30/12/2010 17:21

Knee saga goes on, as it is slowly healing, they are unwilling to operate, but when I pushed them, pointing out that this knee has been a problem for a number of years now, they've agreed to do an MRI scan and reassess in a couple of weeks. They've also given me a strap to wear, which is VERY uncomfortable!

chivers1977 · 30/12/2010 17:39

Hi All

I have somehow hurt my thoracic spine. I normally have lumbar pain which I can deal with and know how to manage (due to overpronation, different length legs, hips in a different place, disc joint degeneration in L1-3).

I have now had 2 consultant appts, xray, MRI, cortisone, cortisone allergy and at least 10 sessions of physio. There is nothing skeletally wrong with the thoracic/ cervical spine apart from the damage from my previous whiplash. It seems to be in a loop of pain where I feel that I am better and then suddenly the pain comes again which goes into my head and down right arm into hand.

Any suggestions are welcome!!

Can you believe that DH has come home with yet another present!!!

chivers1977 · 30/12/2010 18:05

for DS BTW (not me!)

chivers1977 · 30/12/2010 18:18

....and yes Chivers is after the marmalade. We had a very cross old marmalade tom cat who was called Chivers.

I am now pining for new kittens but need to find the 2 x £70 to rehome 2 from the RSPCA first

amberlight · 30/12/2010 18:36

2 x £70? They're not doing a BOGOF offer? Blimey. Often they give them away free in the papers, I note? But I guess then you have to pay for the vets fees etc?

Mellors, the tea room gardener/handyperson, is available for those with dodgy knees/backs/other parts of their anatomy that need a good rub. Form a queue please in the sauna where he awaits with some hot towels.

OmaknitsbooteesforBabyJesus · 30/12/2010 19:25

Go to the Cats'Protection League. Apparently both ds and dd had a cat/ kittens respectively from them and dd's kittens were neutered/spayed for free. She never paid a thing.

ScoutingForSanta · 30/12/2010 20:18

Oh dear....

Is it bad form to untag myself on FB?

I'd like a kitten. Don't see it happening any time soon.

Would anyone like some chocolates? Really fancying pizza but chocolate will do.

ScoutingForSanta · 30/12/2010 20:20

Anyone else watching the institute science lecture on tv?

UniS · 30/12/2010 20:48

Untagging on face book is a nessesity sometimes. darn rude of people to tag you with out asking first.

Crumbs, 2nd hand cats are not cheap are they.

Scout- nowt wrong with blue wellies per say- just I guess there would be a lot of them at a guide event.

Unis joins group standing respectfully by the GS style campfire. She is toasting a marshmallow and has supplies to make smores. Would you like one?

ScoutingForSanta · 30/12/2010 20:55

Someone tagged me in a picture when I was maybe about nine. EEK! Former neighbor I'm FB friends with but haven't spoken to in YEARS and YEARS and, oh yes, YEARS.

teafortwo · 30/12/2010 21:01

Institute science lecture sounds interesting...

My Mum (knowing my crush on respect for Nigel Slater had recorded two episodes of his TV show for me and is going to save Toast for my next visit as well so I can't really complain!

I have had a very Mumsy day.

Milk and I spent this morning having a cuddle sipping warm milk and tea and watching a sweet little internet film on how babies come out and then watched lots of youtube clips of farm animals being born to try to reduce constant top of voice questioning on this subject. I was all planned for the how they get in bit but the coming out bit took a night of googling to prepare me for this session...

Went ice skating.

Went shopping. Noticed a nit run across Milk's head - eeeeewww!!!

And now are about to put our Nit cream on ("Not yet Mummy - I like having Nits. They tickle me and are my friends now.") and go to bed.

teafortwo · 30/12/2010 21:03

Wow - back on a French keyboard so having to focus but I have still become typo queen "And now WE are..." and (

ooops Blush

ScoutingForSanta · 30/12/2010 21:10

I do that with my parents' computer at home, tea. Takes a bit to go back and forth.

(Why am I so hungry?)

UniS · 30/12/2010 23:14

Coz you need to eat more than just 2 magnum ice creams... go and make thy self a sandwich. . And Hurrah for scout feeling hungry. remember scout- YOU are not meant to be losing weight.

Evening all, can I offer around teh jug of frothy hot chocolate and a tin of shortbread biscuits
