Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

Yes, I am (although missed the first part).

UniS · 13/12/2010 22:45

don;t forget your hot water bottle.

Have FINALLLY done washing up.

Hurrah.
Unis joins Mary in a little jiving around teh room with twiglets.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/12/2010 22:53

First part was the most harrowing part. AP ist eine Berliner and probably doesn't need to be reminded of it tonight. DH and I were planning to live there at one point.

Hotwater bottles already warming beds. Smile

UniS · 13/12/2010 22:53

jolly good, do you think mellors would be handy with a warming pan?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 13/12/2010 23:10

I was very moved by Kathe Kollwitz's story, which I hadn't known.

I'm sure, UniS, that Mellors is as gifted with a warming pan as he is with a hammer, chisel, saw, gadget for getting stones out of ponies' hooves, log-splitter, paint brush, massage table .....

UniS · 13/12/2010 23:22

excellent, I'll just take him off to bed with me.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 13/12/2010 23:23

Just re-read my "dear mums of all girls" post, sorry all, I was being a beeeeatch. Blush Just v. annoyed.

UniS · 13/12/2010 23:25

no worries... well down for apologising.
Now get some bolly down you and calm down.

MellorsYourGardener · 13/12/2010 23:29

Come on, UniS. Let's go upstairs.

Such a lot to catch up on! Not sure I can manage it all.

JBM - I think it is just one of Those Things that people say when they are having an inane moment. Along with "oo, he's grown, hasn't he" (well yes, he's not stunted!). I have no idea why it is that children engender more of the inane commentary than pretty much anything else but they do seem to. People feel the absurd need to make a comment.

Amber - so sorry that your Church people are still being arses. If I were you, as part of your Role In Educating About ASD, I would write a full and frank account to the Bishop, thanking him for his invitation and explaining in fine detail why it was utterly inappropriate for you to attend.

Scout - shivers = start of flu, maybe? Have you been to the doc? You must go, I think.

Mary - I did Xmas Smile at the idea of you needing to sneeze as well to be able to say "bless us" instead of "bless you" in church!

Serpent - get the doc back in. AP might need different antibiotics, she might need a proper investigation. Sounds like Wriggle is showing her French roots!

Scout19075 · 14/12/2010 06:35

I really don't feel well. It's the last swimming of term and we were all going to go to lunch after. I don't want to miss swimming since we missed three weeks already for our trip, but I feel rough.

amberlight · 14/12/2010 08:33

JM - I'd rather not single out the church in question in public, but it's not one of the small ones. Try The Other Place for a response. Thumb, that sounds like a plan.

Unserpent - eek re AP. Sounds very much like you need some thoughts from the GP about all of this - the not eating and falling etc is a worry, definitely.

UniS, whatever has been going on with Mellors?! - The poor man is quite exhausted after all that very noisy (unicycling?) round the bedroom!

Mary, I've never been aspergilized before, let alone with twiglets - quite an experience!

Morning everyone else - tea's on.

Scout19075 · 14/12/2010 14:56

We're looking to get a "Companion Bun" -- ie, a spare Bunny in case Bun ever gets lost (but he's going to be "Companion" because I want BabyScout to love on him for a few weeks, in bed, before putting him away to cut down on the trama if the real Bun ever gets lost). Anyway, could someone PLEASE help me explain to MrScout that Companion Bun needs to be the same color as Bun. He's not listening to me.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 14/12/2010 15:43

Is MrScout of a scientific bent? If so, mention the word doppelganger. Then he might get it. Wink

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 14/12/2010 16:59

Or try "a clone" :o

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 14/12/2010 17:10

Must go and get ready for an evening of festive fun, but I want to share !

Scout19075 · 14/12/2010 19:35

Decided to go swimming and to lunch in the end, thinking I was feeling better after moving around/getting dressed (though lazy start to the day breakfast and cartoons in bed) but I'm back to feeling a bit rubbish again. My face hurts usually a classic sign of sinus infection for me but I haven't had a cold. I also have a weird feeling in my neck. I guess I'm going to the doctor. Blurgh.

Glad I went swimming/lunch, though.

I've used "clone" before will have to bust out doppelganger. He also doesn't understand why BabyScout should have a little "Bunny Love" with the new bunny before new bunny is needed yet he's the one that keeps says "Bun should go in the washer, he smells."

Festive fun, small? With mulled wine and mince pies? (Hopeful emoticon)

Could someone come over and make my dinner for us? Don't feel like moving from the sofa but since it's already started I can't justify take-out.

UniS · 14/12/2010 20:58

well that was an unsettled night! don;t think I'll take mellors aND WARMING PAN UP WITH ME TONIGHT. or caps lock either.

I think we may all be catching a tea room cold. shivers and temp here too. am self medicating with beer and choc

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 14/12/2010 21:00

Along with lots of love and healing vibes to anyone who's sick, worried (or worried sick), sad, upset, or stressed. xxJM

Scout19075 · 14/12/2010 21:10

I think I'd fancy a Christmas name but my brain is fuzzy. Anyone have any suggestions?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 14/12/2010 21:10

I'm sorry to learn that Mellors did not acquit himself well with the warming pan, UniS. What went wrong?

Have a twiglet.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 14/12/2010 21:23

Maybe he sat on the warming pan instead of putting it (and himself) in UniS's bed ShockGrin

Hmmm...

ScoutingForSanta?

ScoutingForKissesUnderTheMistletoe?

Sorry, feeble Blush

Scout19075 · 14/12/2010 21:25

Ooo, I like ScoutingForSanta. Think I'll pinch that one.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 14/12/2010 21:26

:o
