Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

Jacksmama - Yes you would, but I think you know that really.

Save your energy and have some Bolly. Xmas Grin

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 13/12/2010 21:10

Well, yeah, I do know. :)
But still, it was pretty annoying, and made me feel less than welcome. I actually had a somewhat unreal moment when I thought that the party was a bit like all those "tell me why boys/ girls are so much better than [the other sex]" on here.

I'll have that Bolly though.

UniS · 13/12/2010 21:11

bless you..
I'm not ordaned or confirmed or wotever, So I can say that.

arrrrhhhh bless their little cottons, the NMBs are dressing up in JMs popcorn jackets.

Scout19075 · 13/12/2010 21:13

Well, whatever anyone says, I love my boy and am glad he's here.

(Damn shivers!)

UniS · 13/12/2010 21:14

zacly - boys are fab, girls are probably fab too. hyped up tots at birthday parties are seldom fab.

Scout19075 · 13/12/2010 21:15

Though I think if one more stranger says "He's HUGE" I might have to lose my rag a bit.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 13/12/2010 21:16

I think the definition of "unlovely" is half a dozen three year olds hyped up on sugar.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 13/12/2010 21:16

I can see that it's unfriendly and annoying. But equally, I think, it would be annoying to be told that I as a mother of a girl know nothing about boys because I'm not a parent of one. It's not as if I've lived in a women-only bubble for the last years.

I really do understand your sense of being got at, and I know you're speaking at least partly in jest, but I think there are some parallels here with that "you don't know anything about parenting until you've had your second child" cr@p. And I really wouldn't want to go there.

UniS · 13/12/2010 21:21

must go an wash up. but its cold in teh kitchen... blerggggh.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/12/2010 21:24

JM, don't take a moment's notice. It's as bad as 'All only children are like that'.

Although, having said that, I find that Wriggle and her friend Marvin (not of course his real name) are worryingly gender stereotypical.
Wriggle is terribly needy: Marvin, I love you. You want to come to my house?
Marvin never commits: I think I might be going to Margate/Fifi's house ....
Or even: I'm too tired to love you right now. She also spends a lot of time thinking about her dresses: What will Marvin think, Mummy?

Tea, I think that Milk may have spotted a niche in the market when it comes to Mouse Vets ...

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 13/12/2010 21:24

How many years, small? :o

Ignore me, it was a stupid rant. I do know that.

CMOTdibbler · 13/12/2010 21:32

Alas, my mum rarely makes much sense when you are talking to her, so AP is one up on her. The continued nausea is def a sign of something going on, and might be that it just wasn't the right one for her infection. Time for a trip to the gp I think.

UniS · 13/12/2010 21:33

some one remind me that washing up won;t do its elf.

Pleaseeeeeeee.

teafortwo · 13/12/2010 21:34

RS - Lots of Milk's friends are Parisians... thus even the boys spend aaaages worrying about what shoes to wear and panic about getting dirty while Milk is stomping around the place with sticking out hair in her kilt and mis-matching wellies.

We are currently reading Dick King Smith's Sophie and I think she has found a soul sister in her. Actually I really think Wriggle would like Sophie lots too...

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 13/12/2010 21:52

Yes, but pre-schoolers get a lot of innocent and benign pleasure from choosing their clothes in the morning and putting them on - often in quite startling combinations. At least, mine did!

Scout19075 · 13/12/2010 21:54

Oh yes, I know, but I read tea's post as they were very fashion conscious and must match, coordinate, etc.

DingDongMaryBSonHigh · 13/12/2010 21:55
UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/12/2010 21:56

Wriggle is about a year behind where she 'should' be I think ... but I agree that I am looking forward to Sophie! Read it myself for fun at lunchtime in the classroom recently. Blush

GP booked for tomorrow afternoon and I rang school and said I wasn't coming in tomorrow. Wriggle is very happy.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 13/12/2010 21:56

:o

DingDongMaryBSonHigh · 13/12/2010 22:01

Thanks JM, I needed that!

Scout19075 · 13/12/2010 22:06

Good night, tea roomers. I'm still shivering, so I'm off to bed.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/12/2010 22:28

Is anyone watching the program on Berlin? Just as well I think that AP retired early to bed.
