Tea Room the Nineteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

a craft maven?? a wot? Unis whizzes of to go and look up maven.
I'm agog to find out.

does it really mean " one who is slightly bodgy but enjoys it"

Scout19075 · 16/11/2010 21:59

Lunch was, at least from my point of view, a bit awkward and stilted. I feel terrible.

UniS · 16/11/2010 21:59

WOW

Thank you.

Scout19075 · 16/11/2010 22:01

What's it mean? [too lazy to look it up emoticon]

Donki · 16/11/2010 22:01

JM ? I?m glad to hear that you are recovering. Do not do too much work!

Scout: I know people (mostly old school friends? parents) who still live in the village where I grew up ? but no-one with whom I have more contact than exchanging Christmas cards. I am still in touch with a number of university friends. We have more in common I suppose.

Amber ? the Young Donk thinks that beetroot wee is highly amusing. I know someone (who shall remain nameless) who put fluorescein into the drinks at a party, where there was a disco with the UV lights that make white things look like they are glowing. He thought it highly amusing when later in the evening some of the men had had too much to drink and were, um, ?less than neat? when visiting the gents. Fluorescein fluoresces beautifully in UV light? Hmm

Mary ? you got the right Donki. No worries ? no confused strangers (as opposed to strange donkeys)

Anyone know anything about gall bladders ? or to be more specific gall stones?

Scout19075 · 16/11/2010 22:05

Oh, JB, I forgot to say -- I can't wait to give the HippyChick a whirl! Will adjust it here at the house and practice carrying BabyScout around. He's so bloomin' heavy!

thumbwitch · 16/11/2010 22:05

'ere, how did you get one of [hgrin]?

Scout - there is nothing wrong with you. You have moved on with your life, you have experiences this old friend hasn't, it's natural to feel a touch, well, almost apprehensive I suppose! One of two things will happen when you see her - either you will both revert back to the time when you knew each other best and get on fine, or you will realise that you have both moved too far apart and will still have a good time but perhaps won't be in a hurry to repeat the visit.

Bolly would be fab, thank you - am a bit peed off this morning. It's all to do with replacement ovens for my house in the UK - not happy with the way things are going. :(

MaryBS · 16/11/2010 22:06

Phew Donki!

I've had gallstones and had my gall bladder removed, what would you like to know? Would you like to see my jar of gallstones? :o

Am feeling a little fragile, hoping that this passes, its sort of an aftershock of the weekend I think. Nothing a good night's rest AND no excitement for the next couple of days won't cure!

thumbwitch · 16/11/2010 22:06

OOOO! Hallowe'en smileys still work!! [hshock]

Donki · 16/11/2010 22:14

I can probably manage without seeing your jar of gall stones Mary!Grin I have just been referred for an ultrasound scan for suspected gall stones (at this point it sounds like the best outcome!)

I suppose I want some reassurance that things will be OK

How long did it take you to recover?

thumbwitch · 16/11/2010 22:32

depending on how severe/urgent your gallbladder pain is, Donki, there is a Liver and Gallbladder cleanse book that you can try first if you want to.

Of course, if you have stones, it is quicker to have the gallbladder removed but it will affect your eating patterns forever after - so if you have the inclination, trying the cleanse first might be worth it? Read the reviews too - there is one negative that is still worth reading as the person had some side effects but still managed to pass about 20 stones!

Donki · 16/11/2010 23:27

Thankyou TW -but I'll probably give Andreas Moritz a miss (blame it on me being a bit of a science geek Donki)

Mary - has it affected your diet? The information on the CORE website indicates that most people's diet is unaffected by Gall Bladder removal.

Scout19075 · 17/11/2010 02:41

Jar of gallstones, Mary? Are there loads?

Hope you're feeling better, Donki!

JB, glad you're behaving yourself and going slowly. You wouldn't want me up there sitting on you!

Scout19075 · 17/11/2010 02:52

Anyone else tired of the royal news already?

Donki · 17/11/2010 06:26

Scout - I am hoping it's gall stones. If the ultrasound doesn't find anything, then they want to do endoscopy somewhere unmentionable!

MaryBS · 17/11/2010 08:36

My diet is mostly unaffected, I'm not a particularly healthy eater! If I go overboard on fat though - like an Indian meal such as a Korma, bhajis, naan, etc, it can give me an upset stomach.

I got really ill at one stage, prior to the Op, where I ended up passing out at work, was jaundiced etc, and ended up wanting to sleep all the time, up to 18 hours out of 24! Not easy when you have a 1yo! And the pains when I got them were REALLY intense!

The operation was really quick and easy, was out next day, no hassles, didn't even really need the painkillers they'd given me!

MaryBS · 17/11/2010 08:36

And no, there weren't loads, it was 5 quite small ones!

MaryBS · 17/11/2010 14:41

YAY! I have my new(ish) car! A shakey ass little number :o

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 17/11/2010 15:58

Yay Mary!

JBsmama · 17/11/2010 16:22
amberlight · 17/11/2010 16:45

hurrah re car! Getting drowned and windswept on holiday...but local pub is a good refuge and serves scrummy food.
Donki, lol re fluorescence.

JM, hooray also re neat embroidery from surgeon! May your days of nervous sitting soon be at an end!

Who's for a holiday choc and a small glass of something?

OP posts:
ASmallBunchofFlowers · 17/11/2010 16:49

Oh yes please, Amber.

UniS · 17/11/2010 19:43

3 cheers for the holiday pub. mines a glass of jelly and a packet of crisps to dunk please.

Boy and I have had a very quiet day, hes got a cold, so we went nowhere, played lots, make a few christmas cards, and then did 2 jigsaws, 1st a 50 piece as a warm up then a 500 piece. I figure If I'm stuck in with him we might as well do a jigsaw that will keep me interested too.

Unis puts on the disco lights and throws some shapes.

Donki · 17/11/2010 19:54

Will you all stop shaking me!

Perhaps that could explain my extremely uncomfortable mid-section?

Donki · 17/11/2010 19:58

Passsing out at work sounds like a Bad Idea Mary - especially with one or two of my classes!

Thanks for telling me how you got/get on. It is very reassuring because I don't know anyone in real life that has had this problem.

(That doesn't sound right. I don't mean to imply that you are imaginary!)
