Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

thumbwitch · 20/09/2010 04:01

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

Amber - sounds positive about your dh. I hope that Fine Lad is living up to his reputation and assisting where possible. If you need anyone to look into Uni courses etc whilst you're so busy, I'm sure that one/some of us could assist in some way. Not sure that the same can be said about the business - but you never know, could be the pt job that 3TW was looking for.

Unserpent - don't feel guilty - I've still not sorted UniS's out yet...although currently wondering about sticking mistlechick's sandals in them for boy for next summer (although hopefully might get down to drop them in - although that might be a tad too late?)

Smallbunch - you know we're here if you want to share either here or there, but in the meantime, here's a big slice of orange drizzle cake and a cuppa.

Mary - I'm sure that you will, in time, work out what it is that causes the problems and also work out alternative options - there are various marmite flavoured crips I've seen, and whilst they're not twiglets, they are still quite tasty!

CMot - glad that the skin of your arm, at least, is looking and feeling somewhat better - how is the physio and accupuncture etc?

Donki - great to seek you, although sorry you've not had a great summer. Whilst your hay pile does appear to be missing, there is a hay next tied up under a sheltered section round the back if you feel peckish...

teafortwo · 18/10/2010 17:20

Hi all!!!

A speshally big stroke on the head to dear Donki!

Thank goodness my parents came to stay. My body has given up on me! I have been completely taken over by a sinus infection that seems to have influenced important things like my back (that hurts), my balance, my throat, my eyes, nose and ears.

Ma and Pa have taken over on all Milk related issues and I have been in bed for nearly a week.

This morning I was shedding a 'woe is me' tear when it suddenly occured to me... basically I occasionally get colds and stomach bugs and I do feel 'down' sometimes too but me or my immediate family have never suffered any terrible diseases and instead of feeling bad about my condition I felt lucky! If this is as bad as it gets for me... I am one lucky bunny.

UniS · 18/10/2010 18:55

oooo, look, jack o lanterns.

[hangry] [hwink] [hshock]

T42, mucho sympathy for your man flu.
I have cold and feel rather under par. Boy is is on top form tho. So far today I've had to put up with ; morris dancing, football, making a scarecrow, making cakes, mobile library, speech thearpy ( which didn;t go well today ) Roary teh racing car and then tuneless singing... thank goodness DH is doing bedtime stories. And I did sit down and read the paper while boy was at preschool.

Good to hear Mr Amber has been allowed home, fingers crossed that will be less stressy than the alternative.

CMOTdibbler · 18/10/2010 19:49

t42 - much sympathy, sinus infections are just the worst, and the sort of thing that makes you feel all teary and blue

I wore my lovely wristwarmers that UniS knitted for me today. Physio was v impressed that she had sized them to fit on bad arm + splint and my good arm.

Loads of acupuncture today, and in the bad arm for first time. One needle was jumping all over the place, and particularly when she was doing reiki (not an official part of my nhs treatment, but me and my arm weren't going anywhere else) over one particular place - v odd. Am going to have longer sessions as they can hide me behind a curtain and leave me with the needles in.
Have decided to see how things are going in a month, and then maybe see an uber specialist for an opinion - strangely, the place we used to live has an excellent hand unit as a result of their world class burns unit.

Spiced cider, twiglet suprise (made with gf twiglets for Mary, Thumb, and me), and pumkin and sage soup ?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 18/10/2010 20:20

Lots of sympathy and a large box of tissues for Tea; did your parents come over because you were ill, or was it just serendipity?

Amber, how long will the single handed running of the family go on? Is it temporary, until FineSpouse is better, or is it long term? In which you need to start thinking about some help sooner rather than later, probably.

Small, I had better put my address in the Other Place (don't really know why). There is no way that a parcel from you could be anything other than wonderful; I still don't quite believe any of you are real, in spite of having received books, riding boots etc.

CMOT, glad the arm is showing improvement.

Everyone else, have an extra portion of twiglet surprise and a glass of this mulled cider which Mellors has thoughtfully left by the wood burner.

Scout19075 · 18/10/2010 20:51

Hello.

Donki · 18/10/2010 22:08

Tea Scout? The teapot is just ready to pour, and there is plenty. Or perhaps you would rather have "Donki's Infamous Brandied Hot Chocolate" ?

I do miss the hay pile - the hay net out back is very fine, and the hay is a really nice soft sweet meadow hay, but I don't want to nick it all for my hay pile - 'twould not be fair on the horses (or bison - he keeps coming over for a munch)

I'm glad that Amber's DH is going to manage without another op - but I agree with RS, if it looks like a long term problem, you need to get some Amber-friendly help.

Lovely to see you Tea - thankyou for the stroke! I always find that ginger tea of some sort is very comforting for sinusy problems. The stronger the better. 'Tis also very good for colds UniS. I expect it works better if you like ginger 'though (Donki blushingly admits to being a closet gingerholic)

oxeye · 18/10/2010 22:37

Oh racing If I got the Elliptical Wriggle in the post that would make my day!

Cmot very interested in your acupuncture experience. The ox fsmily are tres interested in such matters.
I've had an exhausting few days work wise but too distinguishable to say more

Amber my heart is with you and dh

tea it is always true that if you have help you wilt
unis good parcel well done. I must crack on

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 18/10/2010 23:35

Go for acupuncture, Oxeye. It does many wonderful things. I may have mentioned that my sister is a practitioner. Am scooping a very loudly snoring Wriggle into a large cardboard box as I write.

Mistle, I really am working on the parcel, but I am the world's slowest sewer (I mean one who sews - that word looks odd to me). I do love making things but am a bit overwhelmed with work atm and going away for the whole of half term.

amberlight · 19/10/2010 08:09

Unserpent, so glad you're not a slow sewer of the other sort Shock

Oxeye, hoping you have a few quieter and less distinguishable days to make up for these last ones?

Cmot - eek re the acupuncture etc etc - really hope it works.

Unis - have a cup of whatever soothes that cold

Tea - you're having an awful time with that virus. You'd better have a cup of something too.

Donki, a bucket of the hot choc and brandy is just next to the newly replenished hay pile. I've tried to herd the horses and bison away, but the camels are very persistent...

Smallbunch, are you coping in that priest hole? Do you need any new supplies down there?

Mary, how's the tum feeling?

Scout, are you getting any more sleep?

MT, how's life been treating you this week?

Thank you all. Hopefully AmberMan will be fixed soonish. My dsis lives with us, which helps for help with household things greatly (when she's in rather than out with her ghost-hunting commitments and horse care etc). Outside help in the house is Too Scary for an Amber Blush. We tried some a couple of years ago and they were found "dusting" ds's pocket money box, which they had "found" mysteriously. And using all my equipment to clean the house rather than theirs which they had contracted to do. I ended up so stressed and so worried that it wasn't worth it. So we cope. Just. Please don't ask how much "cope" I have left in me right now though...

Trying very hard to cope with the sight of Real Bishops in their Swimwear last week on a youtube video via the Bishop of Buckinghamshire's blog Shock (easy to google). Oh my!

MaryBS · 19/10/2010 08:36

tum still feeling OKish. Back to Dr today.

How's Mr Amber?

I had a course of acupuncture once - it was brilliant. Really helped with back pains I had after giving birth.

amberlight · 19/10/2010 08:49

He's still asleep so I'm not sure.

CMOTdibbler · 19/10/2010 09:04

Post Wriggle to me Serpent. She and ds would get on beautifully (yesterday I had to pretend to be a gay, male, penguin so he could be Tango), and as he is driving me round the twist atm it could be a good thing. Certainly when he is playing with his 'future wife' (they have it all planned out, inc having an only child of their own) who is def elliptical, they are much less trouble.

Will not be seeing a lot of dh this week as he seems due to be spending it all in mediation. It does not improve his mood

Oxeye, as an evidence based medicine fan, and total sceptic, I have been fascinated by all this. I would never have gone for reiki, but could def feel something, even when I didn't know what was being done

UniS · 19/10/2010 10:02

a dollop of night nurse and an early night seems to have helped cold a bit. Also getting boy of to preschool for teh morning. Now, if the chaps supposed to be changing our oil tank would just show up... my morning would be going well.

Hey, donki, look what I found in the choc box of requirements, a hay pile, in chocolate. Its OK, camels don't like chocolate.

UniS · 19/10/2010 10:31

Hurrah, chaps have showed up. Boy is going to be sooo gutted, they have a telehandler and hes not here to watch. can't decide if I take a photo for him or not.

MaryBS · 19/10/2010 10:37

Take a photo!

Went to Dr. All blood tests came back negative. I've been referred to a gastroenterology clinic in a month's time. Now have to go back to eating gluten and I'm scared and unhappy no resolution as yet. Am in priest's hole if anyone wants me, consoling myself with bacon sandwiches.

amberlight · 19/10/2010 11:00

{{{{{hugs}}}}} of appropriate non-scary sort, or large box of safe-to-eat belgian chocs for you then Mary...

UniS, yup, take a photo. Or several.

mistlethrush · 19/10/2010 12:34

UniS - you'll have to post the pictures in the other place so that we all (especially AMber by the sound of it) can have a look!

Tea - post Wriggle in my direction! - I think that she and mistlechick would hit it off really well (and its the 'first' week of halfterm here, so in for the long-haul Hmm) and she'd soon learn that no one can hear whinging so that there's no point Grin

Perhaps we should all set up child exchanges - when you can send your child to someone else's for a day or two every now and again - Boy (of UniS) and mistlechick hit it off fine (and, UniS - we didn't need any translations all day, I don't know if you'd noticed that) - perhaps Fine Lad could organise them into teams and do team games, or coach them on touch rugby or something?

Hello Scout - that was a very brief visit! How are things?

Accupuncture - the thought is scary and Shock but the experience is far from it if you have a good practioner. I hope that it starts to do some good CMot - and I can recommend it for stress too Oxeye

amberlight · 19/10/2010 13:26

I'm not in the Other Place any more though Blush - when I'm this tired I panic and run away from things, which I did Blush

FineLad could certainly do rugby coaching - he's a coach for children's holiday activities and comes home with many tales of their hilarious moments.

Scout19075 · 19/10/2010 15:04

Very quick post as BabyScout's napping (swimming stupor, I call his Tuesday afternoon naps) and I want to take advantage of it. BabyScout received a HUGE and HEAVY package from Parcel Force today. He's a very lucky little boy to have received even MORE presents from family/extended family (his Godmother, in this case) in the States. I do hope he won't be overwhelmed at the wonderful pile of presents that has been getting bigger and bigger. I can't believe he'll be one next week. This time last year I was being told by the OB that if BabyScout didn't come on its own (I didn't know what flavor he was, hence the "its") they would have been in for induction on the following Monday. Shock Stupid disorder. But yay for BabyScout!

Will be back after Guides tonight.

UniS · 19/10/2010 19:56

One photo taken BUT the telehandler was still here when I bought boy home after preschool. so he ogled it for a bit before lunch, then again after lunch and watched it working, putting our new oil tank in place, then waved goodbye while holding his own toy tele to "show it a real one"

it was one of these

JBsMonsterMummy · 19/10/2010 20:41

'lo all... just a quick post from the couch. Had knee op yesterday. Very minor, local anaesthetic only, but much less painful than 2 years ago when I had the other knee done. Not a good night though, and woke up very stiff and sore today. Ouch. Am laid on the couch with book and blankie, feeling sorry for myself. DH and DS are home so I have company (oh and the builders are in and out, downstairs is almost all painted) but it's not too terribly restful here :o

Donki · 19/10/2010 21:15

My hay pile!

Thankyou very much for the hot chocolate Amber - and it is still hot! This bucket has truly amazing thermal properties.

I hope that all the people with lurgs manage to de-lurg and feel better.

RS, perhaps wriggle could come and play with the young donk (henceforth to be known as YD). Does she like transformers? He was driving me mad(der) earlier.

I had better not stay - annual reviews to write and medium term planning due in by Friday

Donki · 19/10/2010 21:17

UniS, the Young Donk would be most envious of seeing the telehandler - he is particularly fond of the JCB loadall variety...
I'm glad that Boy got to see it - and show it to his telehandler

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 19/10/2010 21:28

Very glad to say that Wriggle has not yet met Transformers; still a bit upset that she was introduced to Barbies when I had envisioned our life being peopled only by tasteful, wooden toys.

May be changing my mond about posting Wriggle and deciding to keep her, especially after she rushed into the kitchen to find me while playing at a friend's house "because I want to kiss you." She doesn't usually do soppy stuff.
